Iceland Apartment Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom ground floor apt. Beautiful mountain veiw and overlooking harbour.

Welcome to our ground floor flat located in Grundarfjörður, a mere 2 hour drive from Reykjavik. We offer you 3 bedrooms, each with two single beds that can be moved together if needed. There is a well equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room and a single bathroom with bath and shower. You will find that having your morning coffee by the kitchen window can be a joy as you watch the fishing boats heading out to sea. Our house is located in the village of Grundarfjörður, where the amazing mountain view surrounds the village and is highlighted by Kirkjufell mountain which stands out and is recognized as one of Icelands most beautiful mountains. The Snæfellsnes peninsula is best known for the glacier Snæfellsjökull which is famous as the centerpiece of Jules Vernes 'Journey to the center of the earth'. The peninsula has endless sights of beauty to see and all of them are no more than a 30 to 40 minute drive from the house. Be it whale watching, bird watching, hiking or just looking at freak lava formations... your in the perfect spot! In the fall and winter you can watch amazing shows of the northern lights (Aurora Borealis) The village is right in the middle of Snæfellsnes on the northern side, where all of the more populated areas of the peninsula are. To the east is Stykkishólmur, which services the ferry to the West fjords of Iceland as well as being surrounded by the 'Breiðafjörður' islands. To the west is Snæfellsbær, made up of three villages that lie at the roots of the glacier, the largest village being Ólafsvík. In our own Grundarfjörður, you can find a very friendly atmosphere. We have a general store, gas stations, a hotel, restaurants and bars, a swimming pool plus a wide assortment of tourist activities such as a whale watching service, guided tours and hiking expeditions that can be inquired about at the information center. Grundarfjörður also prides itself of the extraordinary wildlife to be found in the area... such as Orca whales that sometimes can be seen swimming in and around the harbour area, as well as seals, dolphins and an assortment of birds. Also worth mentioning is the fact that Breiðafjörður is the only place in Iceland you can come across the majestic icelandic eagle. If one is lucky, as we very often are, you might find yourself staring at a seal, sitting on the Snoppa rock itself, which our rental is named after.

About Edvard and Unnur

Edvard and Unnur moved with their children to Grundarfjörður from Reykjavik in 1997. They immediately felt at home here and were amazed at how peaceful everything was. Their second year here they moved into this house and fell in love with it. They live in the two flight apartment above the Snoppa rental, and pride themselves in being close by in case their renters need anything. They are more than happy to assist if possible.

Edvard and Unnur purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Edvard and Unnur chose Iceland

In 2005 we got a chance to buy the ground floor apartment and obtain ownership of the whole house, which we jumped on. After having a few long term renters, we decided to try giving travellers a chance to rent short term and enjoy the natural beauty of our village and its surrounding area.

What makes this apartment unique

Exceptional view. Natural beauty.

Cozy yet spacious; Great location for exploring Snaefellsnes

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 3 stayed two nights, wished we could stay longer, and we hope to return. Unnur and Edvard were gracious, helpful, low-key hosts. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It's in a quiet but interesting town from which you can explore the peninsula by car and also take local walks with wonderful views. Due to the sloping ground, it's a "basement" apartment only in the front; and in the back, it's at ground level with a nice view of the harbor.

Family vacation on beautiful penninsula

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was the bottom floor of the owner's house, and it was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well-appointed, and the common area was comfortable for hanging out with the family. The views from the apartment, and the town of Grundarfjordor, are simply stunning. The peninsula and national park kept us busy for days. I would recommend this rental to anyone who wants to get off the beaten path to see Iceland's country and nature.

Excellent choice for our group of six

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights in the Snoppa rental. This basement apartment was clean, comfortable, private and convenient. The kitchen window faces the ocean. Edvard and Unnur helpfully explained what's available in town, and Edvard made arrangements for us to visit a farm in Olafsvik where our grandchildren could ride horses. The town is surrounded by green hills on which, from one spot, at least 15 waterfalls can be seen. Our son and his family returned from a charter fishing trip with fresh cod for supper, while we visited the strange and interesting shark museum in Bjarnarhofn. A coin-op laundry is available several blocks from the apartment, a public pool is nearby, and Internet access is available in the municipal library. We enjoyed our visit greatly, wished we could have stayed longer and hope to go back someday.

Great home base for the Snaefellsnes Penninsula!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Snoppa Rental last week. Edvard was wonderful with his correspondence and he answered all the questions that I had prior to the trip. His directions were great...we drove straight to the property and entered with ease. The bedrooms were of good size. We were a family of 4 staying there, so each child had their own room. Our room faced the beautiful water and it was a joy to look out the window each day.

We had Internet capability throughout the stay. It was weak at times, but never failed us or dropped.

The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc. The only addition I would recommend would be a measuring cup and set of measuring spoons. Appliances all worked well and served our needs.

Towels were plentiful, bedding was warm and comfortable. Shades and blinds darkened rooms at night.

Town is easy to walk and quaint. There is a nice grocery store where we purchased food.

We spent 3 days exploring the Penninsula by car. There is so much to do...we could have spent a week! We loved the lava cave and the Hero show at Rif...we highly recommend that show...hilarious! It also tells a saga of the Penninsula and many of the sites we saw were mentioned in the saga, so nice tie in.

The walk around the base of Church Mountain was outstanding as were the falls.

I could not ask for a more central location to tour this area of Iceland. Snoop a rental is a great base for your visit and I highly recommend it!
