About Mark DeCorso

I am a long time Alaskan and I live in Fairbanks with my wife and six children. I have traveled and lived all over Alaska, working as a commercial fisherman in Kodiak, fishing for crab on the Bering Sea and working at public radio stations in Bethel and McGrath. Our family has traveled extensively in Alaska to more than 40 Alaska Native villages. In 2011, we spent nine months driving through Canada and the lower 48 states. In 2013, we drove from Alaska to Chile. We have spent extended time in Canada, Morocco, the Amazon, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile. Our children have a lot of interests - one play bagpipes, one raises dairy goats, one is doing an internship in Bolivia. We have traveled in many ways and rented houses, apartments and rooms in several countries. We know what it is like to rent a vacation rental and we are available to help in any way we can.

Mark DeCorso purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Mark DeCorso chose Alaska

My wife and I bought the property in 1993. Growing up in Fairbanks, I spent a lot of time thinking about where I would want to live should I stay here. The property is truly on of the most beautifully set parcels I have ever come across. We were very fortunate that it came available at the time we were ready to buy.

After my father retired from the University and my parents moved away to Florida, they wanted to continue to return for Alaskan summers. My Dad and I built the cabin in 2007 so they could live nearby their six grandchildren. Since they are here for only a few months each year, we have decided to make it available to you when they are not.

What makes this cabin unique

Windy Creek Cabin is in a beautiful forested setting at the end of a private drive. For aurora viewing, the is very little light pollution (mostly the moon). It is a peaceful and secluded place that I'm sure you will enjoy.

A Taste of Real Alaska

  • 4 of 5

"Secluded" Log Cabin is an accurate description. I would give it 4 1/2 Stars! The cabin was equipped with everything we needed and was warm even with the cool summer night temperatures (high 30s & low 40s). We enjoyed being "away from it all" - yet were close enough to everything we wanted to do and see in Fairbanks. The dirt road leading to the cabin was "real" Alaska! We laughed a lot as we bounced around.

We got to meet Mark and that was a big plus! He was very personable.

We did have a maintenance problem during our stay, but Mark got to work on it right away and had it taken care of when we returned from our day excursion.

We loved being out in the woods with the beauty of nature. The cabin was cozy and a nice quiet place for retreat. We would stay there again!

Great cabin, warm and comfortable. Get location for seeing everything fairbanks has to offer.

  • 5 of 5

Great rustic cabin with we everything you need to enjoy your stay in the fairbanks area. The owner Mark, was there when we arrived at 1130 pm and made sure everything was ready for our arrival. The kitchen was fully equiped. The cabin in far enough away from Fairbanks for you to get the Alaska feel but only 25 minutes from downtown and the airport. Heater worked g re at in the cabin which was good since the outside temps were . Mark suggested a wonderful spot for seeing the Northern lights close to the cabin (Murphy's Dome). Mark would even text us at midnight when he saw them to let us know they were out. Overall a great place to spend a winter vacation in Fairbanks.

Nice place in the woods near Fairbanks

  • 5 of 5

Mark was very helpful in getting us situated, pointing out things of interest, and indicating where best to see the Aurora. We were very comfortable there. The heater worked well and there were extra space heaters for the rooms. The place still needs a little finishing work (trim around the windows and top of walls), but that is just asthetics which didn't bother us.

We enjoyed our stay. Cabin had a well equipped kitchen, and we were very comfortable there. Excellent location outside of town, for that real "Alaska" feel.

Pleasant stay at Mark's vacation home

  • 3 of 5

The stay was very pleasant overall; the location of the property is away from town, the peace and quiet, which is what we were looking for. Out host Mark had given clear instructions on how to reach the place. It is a large property and easily hosted 6 of us, and it has as described a well furnished kitchen. It would have helped if there was an extra bathroom.
