Overview

Bar Harbor House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Be snug as a bug in this cozy home located in the hive of activity that is downtown Bar Harbor. The Honeybee house was built in the 1920’s in a year round residential cul de sac and was fully renovated in 2007 opening up the downstairs floor plan to a more functional and modern family style. Purchased in 2013 by Mountain Sea Properties, we updated the home with new furniture, new linens, and fresh paint colors.

New to the vacation rental market, this fully renovated downtown home features an exceptional location in the heart of Bar Harbor within walking distance to all downtown restaurants, shops, supermarket and amenities including the main hub of the island wide free bus system allowing for a car free vacation. Walk to the local bike shop to rent bikes and ride directly into Acadia National Park. Pack a lunch and walk straight to the dock where your whale watching excursion boat departs. Grab the kids and walk downtown for an ice cream. Or enjoy that special dinner with family and friends with out that hassle squeezing everyone in a car and finding parking.

About Jennifer Wales

Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993.

Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline.

In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal.

Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services.

Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Why Jennifer Wales chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

Jen has been looking for just the right downtown property to round out the rental properties offered since 2008. She’s looked at dozens of properties searching for just the right combination of quiet yet convenience, ample space yet an affordable rental price, and up to date yet historic charm. She finally found it in the Honeybee House and is delighted to offer it rounding out the offerings of properties at Mountain Sea Properties. This home is brought to you with all the same quality and care that can be expected from all our properties including local information and recommendations, vacation services, cleanliness and quality lines, kitchenware and furniture.

Amazing location, beautiful, fun house, everything right at your fingertips!

  • 4 of 5

The house was fantastic - plenty of room and generous sized bathrooms ready for our stay. The house location is ideal - close enough to the main drag that everything is walkable, but not smack in the middle of late night goings-on so we were still able to get the kids to bed!

A grocery store is literally steps away and the phenomenal Acadia state park only a few minutes drive. We will stay again!

Great location and house to explore Acadia National Park

  • 5 of 5

The house is warm and comfortable. It provided everything we were looking for even an area to have our morning coffee outdoors. Equally impressive was the owner's input regarding specific restaurants, hiking trails and carriage rides. . We followed her advice to a tee which truly added to the wonderful and memorable vacation.

great location, great house

  • 5 of 5

The five of us, from 75 years to 8 years all loved the house. It was comfortable and in an excellent location-----close to everything but very quiet. Grandma loved that she could walk 5 minutes to pick up the morning NYTimes, granddaughters loved that they could turn cartwheels on the lawn.

Highly recommended.

Location, location!

  • 4 of 5

The location of this Bar Harbor home is awesome! No need to ever move the car(s) for dinner/shopping in town. Walk to Jordan's for breakfast, over to Hannaford for groceries and everything else is just a block or two away.

My husband and I stayed with 3 adult family members and we had plenty of room.

Our week was in August with very warm weather. Fans were provided for every room and they did the job.

There's plenty of cabinet space in the kitchen for "your" snacks. We have found in other rental properties, the owners load the cabinets with so many plates, glasses etc...there's never room for your own "stuff."

We had a great time at "The Honeybee House."

We highly recommend this home.

Cute, quaint, and excellent location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at the Honeybee house in Bar Harbor. The house is in an excellent location within easy walking distance to all of downtown Bar Harbor. The house was well equipped, very clean, and very comfortable. My wife especially loved the garden in the back yard and ate fresh raspberries every morning. She also loved the flowers in the front. We found the house to be better than "as advertised". We would highly recommend the house and will rent it again when we decide to go back to Bar Harbor.

Clean, Charming Home in Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This property works well for our family. Quiet neighborhood with easy access to the essentials: downtown Bar Harbor, free bus to Acadia and Hannaford grocery store. When deciding the dinner plan, we either walk to the grocery store or to a restaurant! Home has dishwasher and washer/dryer. Kitchen well stocked with cooking and food prep equipment - and there is a grill on the rear deck. House comes with linens, paper goods and shower/bath basics (shampoo, conditioner and body wash) - so no need to bring any of these along!

This rental works as a great home base when you want to spend the day in the park and the evenings in town. We also enjoy just relaxing at the house in the comfortable living room or on the rear deck. My kids always have one of the many in-house jigsaw puzzles in process throughout our stay.

The house has fans, but no air conditioning. However, we didn't miss air conditioning during our mid-summer stay - great breezes through the second floor where the three bedrooms are located.
