Overview

Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Be snug as a bug in this cozy home located in the hive of activity that is downtown Bar Harbor. The Honeybee house was built in the 1920’s in a year round residential cul de sac and was fully renovated in 2007 opening up the downstairs floor plan to a more functional and modern family style. Purchased in 2013 by Mountain Sea Properties, we updated the home with new furniture, new linens, and fresh paint colors.

New to the vacation rental market, this fully renovated downtown home features an exceptional location in the heart of Bar Harbor within walking distance to all downtown restaurants, shops, supermarket and amenities including the main hub of the island wide free bus system allowing for a car free vacation. Walk to the local bike shop to rent bikes and ride directly into Acadia National Park. Pack a lunch and walk straight to the dock where your whale watching excursion boat departs. Grab the kids and walk downtown for an ice cream. Or enjoy that special dinner with family and friends with out that hassle squeezing everyone in a car and finding parking.

About Jennifer Wales

Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993.

Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline.

In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal.

Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services.

Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

This home is brought to you with all the same quality and care that can be expected from all our properties including local information and recommendations, vacation services, cleanliness and quality lines, kitchenware and furniture.

Perfect Bar Harbor rental

  • 5 of 5

"Honey-Bee House" is one block off of the main street in Bar Harbor, and is within walking distance of everything in town. Being able to walk to restaurants, grocery stores and stroll around town is wonderful.

The house is very quiet, squeaky clean, and cozy and comfortable. The owners are very considerate to supply renters with ALL of the extras...sheets and towels, laundry facilities and soap, along with all dishes and cooking utensils. Additionally, renters will find a well-organized container on the table filled with maps of Acadia that include biking and hiking trails, sight-seeing / tourist information , and information on bike and kayak rentals...so handy for first-timers to Bar Harbor!

I would 100% recommend this rental to anyone interested!

Lovely home tucked in downtown Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week in Bar Harbor. The house was perfect, very roomy and nice for our family. Located downtown, we could easily go out to local restaurants and walk downtown. Also, it right by the bike rentals and a short ride away from the carriage roads. Our girls loved the backyard with the nice yard and garden. Overall we loved the house and we look forward to hopefully returning for a future visit!

Jen was a great host, arranged some rentals for us and went out of her way to make us feel welcome.

Wonderful property--great front porch--equipped in every way--awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned home from our fantastic vacation in Bar Harbor at Honeybee House. There were seven ---Nonna, Pa, Daughter, husband and three grandsons.

It was one of our BEST vacations EVER. We have always stayed at Bar Harbor Inn----but, to stay in this wonderful house together definitely added to the family experience!!

It is in town---you can walk to any restaurant, parks and Frenchmans bay.

My daughter is a photographer and found amazing opportunities for pictures. We did Jordan's for breakfast, lunch and dinners at Sidestreet Café, Testa's, The Irish Pub, Thirsty Whale, Stewman's Lobster pound, Rosalies, Poor Boy's--the list goes on!!!

We also had many wonderful meals in the Honeybee---this house is totally equipped with anything you may need. It is clean, beautiful and truly a HOME away from home!! Hope to return. Thank you Jen for a truly memorable experience!! Deb Shane....

Quiet, cozy, and great location

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for our family. We had 4 adult and 2 kids. It was in a nice quiet area but you could walk downtown in a matter of minutes. Having the grocery store right at the end of the street was so convenient. The house was nice and clean and Jen was great to work with getting everything reserved and set up for our family. We can't wait to come back!

Would stay again!

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor and at the Honeybee house! The house was simple, updated, kid-proof, and a good size for my family of 6 plus grandparents to stay for the week. My kids loved the queen over queen bunk bed and the other 2 bedrooms were perfect for all of the adults. Having 2 full baths- both a very nice size and updated- were a big plus. The house came fully stocked with all needed paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, detergent etc.) AND a kitchen full of everything you could need to cook lobsters or to bake. Important to mention since we drove 9 hours- with a car stocked with some of these items. We loved playing games at night at the large custom dining table. The front porch was relaxing as well and you can enjoy the BEAUTIFUL wildflower garden out front. It should be noted that there are 2 off- street parking spots. We stayed in mid-July and the nights were very cool (fleece needed) -felt like autumn to my family from Pennsylvania. House is not air conditioned but fans are in every room if needed.

As far as location, the house was within walking distance (few blocks at most, very doable for school aged kids) to everything we needed in downtown Bar Harbor, such restaurants, shopping, Acadia Bike rental, lobster/whale watching boat piers, the shuttle to Acadia, Wading Pool, and supermarket. My kids especially LOVED visiting "The Bar" -which was about a 2 block walk from the house. We visited it often to explore and check out all different sorts of wildlife.

Jen was helpful with answering my questions and also provided a large book of information to visitors upon arrival. We hope to visit Bar Harbor again and would be happy to return to the Honeybee house.
