Can't say enough about how beautiful, and uniquely charming this property is. Close to everything, short ride to Portland, and many beautiful scenic views, the gorge, etc. Also, the owner Michael is extremely accommodating!!! He is available to answer questions immediately. We really enjoyed our time here and will be back.
The property has beautiful flowers and the house is historically furnished with very unique furniture. The down side to this house is the lack of storage. You must keep your clothing in your suitcase as there is not much room in the dressers and they already have stuff in and on top of them. The closet also already has antique clothing with minimal hanging areas. There is not a bathroom on the same level as the master bedroom (upstairs) and the one bathroom on the main level has a pedestal sink with nowhere to set your bathroom supplies. The view is pretty from the master room. We also enjoy opening windows for fresh air and only some of the windows work and with the large draperies they were often blocked which decreased air flow. This home would NOT be good for children as there is a lot of antiques around the house. They were quickly responsive with the one issue we had which had to do with the television (no cable in the house- we had one night of downtime and we were trying to watch a movie). No major complaints other than it didn't really suit us. We did like the martini bar in town for breakfast in the later morning- limited options in town for early risers so we usually got coffee and ate on the road to wherever we were heading. McMenanims- Edgefield is right down the road and was a fun place to walk around, eat lunch and/or dinner, wine tasting, and there is also a par-3 golf course on the property.
The house is impeccable. Everything about it looks just like it did in its original state. And yet although the kitchen appliances look vintage, they are actually very modern. The house could have many more bedrooms but the owners have preserved the original look with the parlors, sitting rooms, etc. The view is gorgeous. Troutdale is a very cute town. Would definitely stay there again.
Absolutely beautiful house and location! Away from the hustle of Portland, but still only 15 minutes by car. Breakfast every morning on the deck overlooking the Columbia River gorge. Mt. Hood over my right shoulder. Very peaceful.
Best kept secret was the little Italian restaurant in downtown Troutdale. Tremendous food, great wine cellar, but very inexpensive. We dined there 5 times! Hope to be back in the same house many times in the future!
This house is unbelievably well-stocked and well located. It is perfect for entertaining. We were in the area for a wedding and it provided a great meeting place for family and friends to gather. It is not the best layout for staying since there is only one full bathroom and the lighting downstairs could be a lot better. But I would definitely recommend it.
What a fantastic house! A turn-of-the-century house beautifully restored and decorated with charming antiques. Couches and beds are so comfortable and fitted with high quality linens, tons of comfy pillows and warm cotton quilts. The decks are huge and overlook the beautiful view. Sparkling clean and everything you need in a kitchen. The house is so well appointed - from the vintage china to the piles of bath towels and huge slabs of English soap. Easily the most unique and beautiful vacation home we've ever been in.
