About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Location is KEY! Our Charming Cottage is well off of the street, next to a year round creek. In the spring it is frequented by ducklings and their family's.

We've landscaped the space to provide a special experience for our guests, with plenty of sun and seating outside by the stream. Large mature trees grace the neighborhood, keeping the area cool and green. The cottage sits behind a house with quiet full time renters. If you bring your car, we've reserved the driveway for you. But you might prefer the bikes we have provided for your easy access to all the area had to offer. Downtown Walla Walla with multiple wine tasting rooms and Whitman campus are so close, you won't want to use your car. Multiple routes leave from the Cottage for rides and walks along the the lovely neighborhood streets.

Inside the cottage is bright and sunny and spacious. The Kitchen is fully stocked for cooking the fresh produce you bring home from the farmers market. Or to reheat the left overs from so many great restaurants with in walking distance. Safeway is a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute drive away.

The bedroom you can look forward to a restful night in the top quality king sized bed, complete with luxury linens. WE just completed a remodel of the bathroom; new vanity, shower and all new plumbing.

What a treat for your next retreat!

About Meredith

Retirement seems to be so close! Just have to get those kids through college and then we can play!

Meredith purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Meredith chose Washington

Our daughter chose to attend Whitman College, and we're glad she did! While visiting her in WW we found this property and loved it. The property consists of 2 houses, with the 'Cottage' in the back of the property. Initially we rented the Cottage to Whitman visiting professors, but we decided it was perfect for our vacations. And yours too!

What makes this cottage unique

I like walking around our neighborhood; to the ballpark on summer evening for a ball game; to the bakery in the morning for fresh bread, or the Farmers Market for veggies. A bike ride up Mill Creek is a must do, if you have your bike along on your stay. Soak your feet in the cool creek on a hot day. And a Theater performance seems always to be in production. So much to do and so little time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing weekend away, your cottage is adorable and was perfect! Everything about it was exactly what we needed/wanted for the weekend. Fritz loved laying in the grass and watching the little stream. Walla walla is so dog-friendly and he loved tagging along with us all weekend! Apart from the wineries and relaxing outside at the cottage we loved how walkable everything was. Great location!

We truly enjoyed our stay and will totally use your cottage on future trips, and we have already told several friends about it as well.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage, perfect for 2-3 people, and very convenient location to downtown and the surrounding wineries. Only difficult part was the heavy snowfall prior to our arrival, which meant we had to shovel out the driveway and path to the cottage for ~30 minutes upon arrival before we could get inside.

Quiet getaway in Walla Walla

The cottage is located in a quaint, quiet neighborhood close to Whitman College and downtown Walla Walla. The outside garden/creek area is well kept and a peaceful respite for reading, reflecting, or hanging with a friend.

Perfect little oasis

  • 5 of 5

What a charming home away from home in the heart of Walla Walla.

Meredith & Lou's cottage was an ideal "headquarters" for my wife and my 10th anniversary trip, and first visit to Walla Walla. It's spacious, charming, bigger than it looked in the photos, and boasts one of the more comfortable beds we've ever slept in. The photos don't do the little creek running through the property justice—the nearby adirondack chairs quickly became our favorite spot to sip coffee in the morning and a glass of wine before dinner.

Our hosts were perfectly responsive prior to our arrival, flexible about check-in and -out times, and appropriately hands-off during our stay. We can't wait to plan a future trip!

This is the second time we have rented Meredith and Lou's sweet cottage in Walla Walla and we enjoyed the accommodations very well each time. The owners have done a nice job of keeping the 1950's character of the house while attending to the necessary upgrades in plumbing, windows and climate control. The king size bed is comfortable and the living room sofa sleeper worked well for our son. The home is clean and the decor is simple but fitting. The garden is lovely and was replete with color during our stay last week. There is also a nice little stream on the edge of the property and adirondack chairs and a picnic table provided seating to enjoy the water and yard. Each morning I went for walks around the neighborhood and the streets are lined with mature trees, lawns and craftsman homes. It is only two blocks from Whitman College which has a stunning landscape and garden sculptures. The center of town is an easy 10 minute walk and is filled with good restaurants and retail stores.

Great location and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was really cozy and comfortable - good size kitchen, bathroom, living & bedroom for two adults, our baby, and our dog. The outside is an amazing space to relax, with beautiful gardens, comfortable Adirondack chairs, and a meandering stream that our little one and dog had a great time splashing around in! The location is great and we were able to walk downtown easily in about 10 minutes. Highly recommended - we will be back!

A most enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this charming little cottage for four nights in late May. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, perfectly located within walking distance of Whitman College, about 4 blocks away. The cottage has all the amenities you could need, including the biggest and most comfortable bed ever, a very well equipped kitchen, excellent shower, off-street parking, and a lovely little patio area by the side of a creek. We only used it briefly as it was quite cold and wet during our stay, but I can imagine it in the summer as a perfect morning coffee spot. Walla Walla has much to offer; some fine restaurants, wineries scattered around in the golden rolling hills just outside of town, several good tasting rooms downtown, and a lovely campus to explore. And don't miss the Walla Walla Roasting Company ~ out by the airport ~ for superb hand roasted beans and the Walla Walla Bread Company on Main Street. This whole visit, primarily to attend commence, was all the more pleasant because of this very delightful place to stay. The only thing we could not figure out was how to use the "entertainment" equipment, some strange (for us) configuration of computer and cable. I guess the days of the on-off button are long gone. But we didn't really miss anything important and the wi-fi service was excellent. The only other thing we couldn't get to function was the overhead heater, the type controlled with a "wand." It just wouldn't blow out any warm air (cold, yes! But not warm), even though we turned the temperature setting up just to take the chill out of the house. But the wall heaters did just fine and after a day the cottage was at a comfortable temperature. (It was 37º one night!) If we ever needed a place to stay while in Walla Walla in the future, I would definitely return here. Thank you Meredith and Lou for this lovely shelter.

Owner's Response: We are so thankful that you enjoyed your stay at our vacation cottage. We apologize for any confusion in the system instructions may have caused during your stay. We do send to our guests specific instructions on how to both heat and cool the Cottage using the green/energy efficient technologies we've installed. Unfortunately they do not initially "feel" the same as a traditional forced air heater. Thankfully you were able to use the back up wall heaters. The instructions are sent out 30 days before staying with us for reference, and are also in the Cottage in a binder labeled Guest information. Basically to heat the Cottage the icon must be a sun, and to cool the Cottage the icon must be a snowflake- all controlled on the "wand". The system is highly efficient and comfortable for maintaining temperatures, whether cooling or heating. For our entertainment system we have an Amazon Fire TV, (internet tv) with a huge selection of channels, including the major broadcast networks, access to Amazon prime library, and Netflix . The "fire TV", also streams an extensive music collection (our prime), and Pandora. In addition there is an HDMI cable for connecting your computer content directly to the monitor (tv). We hope to provide our guests with every opportunity to review the Guest information, and ask questions both before their arrival, and anytime during their stay at the Cottage.

Wonderful walking neighborhood, with large mature trees for shade and fall color. Very close to the Whitman campus, and downtown. If you would like a car-less, careless vacation, fly into to the regional Airport and take public transit to this vacation rental (contact us for details). Borleske Stadium is walking distance from the cottage, for Walla Walla Sweets baseball games..
