Loogootee Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4bdrm, 2 Bath Lakeshore Cottage. Panoramic Views Of 450 Ft Of Shoreline.

Welcome to our 'Great Lake Escape'. This four season home offers exceptional panoramic views from most areas inside as well as outside on it's wrap around deck and expansive 450 ft of lake shore. 'Escape' today's fast-paced lifestyle or if you seek adventure, you can boat, ski, hunt, hike, fish, explore caves/and or casinos. The lakescape offers family friendly lake frontage that kids and adults are sure to enjoy. There's over an acre of yard, spacious wrap around decks and triple docks, allowing ample opportunities for outdoor fun. Location on a near point lot and idle zone of the lake keeps both street and lake traffic at a minimum. While there are many local attractions and nearby recreational opportunities to enjoy, guests comment most about amazing views of soaring bald eagles, blue herons, deer and wild turkeys; the relaxing sound of the horses hoofs clopping as they pull an Amish buggy across the causeway, the brilliance of the stars at night, and most of all---the perfect peace and indescribable quiet. From fishing to swimming to evening campfires, this is a place you will want to escape to time and time again.

NOTE: We have just purchased this property, which has been a vacation rental since 2011. Because the purchase was so recent, we have not had time to accumulate reviews yet. However, reviews of the property under the previous ownership are available, from us, upon request and they will give you information about what others enjoyed regarding the property, the area and the local attractions, as well as the cleanliness and condition of the property. The rental will be continuing just as it was before the change of ownership---same furnishings, same prices, same amenities, same housekeeping staff and same standard of excellence in cleanliness and service.

What a great place. We felt so at home here. Everything was so clean and well thought out. The layout worked out so well for our group. We loved the boats. the fishing was fabulous! The flowers are such a nice touch and we have never seen so many hummingbirds! Sunning on the deck and docks with the nice lawn chairs was great. Great spots for reading inside and out. Great memories were made here.

Was a very nice place to stay. There was 10 sisters on our weekend gateway, plenty room for everyone. The weather was beautiful, we really enjoyed sitting on the deck. A great place to relax!!!

Amazing Stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

You can't ask for a better time at a lake house. My four friends and I played yard games, went fishing, grilled our meals, and sat by the fire. The house was very comfortable, and the deck is larger than life. Plenty of space for any number of activities, and the end-of-the-road property is very secluded and quiet. I would recommend this house for anyone from families with kids or, like we did, old friends catching up.

Owner's Response: I apologize for the algae, although it is something that is beyond our control. After the lake restoration, the water was so clear that the sunlight could penetrate to the bottom of the lake. We believe this caused the algae to start. This, coupled with the extended 90 degree temperatures and unusual amount of rainfall this summer, provided conditions ideal for algae growth. I checked with the DNR office this week and they tell me the algae problem will be addressed at the next board meeting, which is Tues, Oct. 11, 2016. DNR has been aware of the algae and have been watching it, but they were reluctant to use chemicals on it, preferring to allow it to complete it's life cycle naturally. West Boggs Lake is a major tourist attraction in this county and also one of the largest lakes in Indiana. We feel confident that DNR will consider the environment, recreational enjoyment and tourism and will make decisions that will lead to a solution best for all concerned. Meantime, please know that we appreciate your patience and understanding and we hope you visit us again soon. Brenda, Manager

nice place.

Need another bath or half bath. Bed rooms a little small. Banged my head going down the steps. Do something about the blue-green algie, I know its not your problem but it is a big problem. Fishing was great. Large blue-gill and nice size bass. Kitchen well stocked and very nice.

A great time at the Great Lake Escape in Loogootee!!!!

  • 4 of 5

We spent 4 days and 3 nights for a family party at the Great Lake Escape home in Loogootee over Labor Day weekend. There were 12 adults and 2 children, and we found this house to be a fantastic place to stay. Clean and comfortable. The large kitchen/dining/ living area on the main level was a great place to be together, and the many bedrooms upstairs were comfortable for everyone. The huge wrap around deck and big yard were fun places to be outside, but the lake front and pier were the places we spent much of our time. We spent afternoons swimming off the dock, paddling around the lake in the pedal boat or the canoe, and bass fishing. So much fun. We also did some easy daytrips from the house. A ride on the French Lick railroad and our train was "held up" by Old West bandits. A fun boat ride thru a cave at Bluespring Caverns. Hiking to caves, natural bridges, and waterfalls at McCormick's Creek State Park.

Every day we saw eagles, herons, egrets, hummingbirds. The lake was quiet, very little boat traffic even on Labor Day weekend, so it was a great place to swim and relax. You could hear the clip-clop of horses pulling Amish wagons over the causeway. What a perfect getaway.

Brenda was so helpful to ensure that we would have a wonderful stay, and we did!!!!

Looking for a great place to stay with a lot of outdoor adventures and home comforts ??? This is it.

I would give the property 4.5 stars!

  • 4 of 5

The house was large enough to accommodate our group very comfortably. Lots of sleeping space and room to stretch. Our group especially enjoyed the extra large deck that provided both shade and full sun the entire day.. The property inside and outside was very clean and well kept. Our only disappointment was the quality of the lake water. It was more like a swamp pond than a lake. The water was green, thick, and cloudy. One day when we woke up the entire lake (as far as we could see) was covered in a 2 inch layer of thick green and blue algae. Very disgusting!! It wasn't until around 4pm that it "cleared" up enough for us to even think of getting in and that was because the temps were in the 90's and we wanted to refresh. Not sure whose problem this is but maybe the DNR should look in to it.

Owner's Response: We thank Kelly for the 4.5 stars and apologize that the water wasn't clear and beautiful like it normally is. Boggs Lake was drained in 2014, renovated, and refilled in 2015. DNR tells us that the clean, pure water provided an environment favorable to the formation of algae at times. However, it was only patches that moved around with the wind and current. DNR will not use chemicals to kill it but prefers, for the benefit of wildlife and humans, to allow it to clear up on it's own. We have had a LOT of rain this summer, which can stir up any sediment on the bottom and any algae present. The fact that it cleared up later, leads me to believe this may be what had happened. The rain could have been over the lake, or upstream. I guess we just have to remember that it is a lake and cannot be regulated like a pool. We wish it could, but so far Mother Nature claims that as her job. Anyway, we're glad Kelly and party still liked our place and hope they come back soon.

Beautiful! Very relaxing stay.

  • 5 of 5

We had nine people (5 kids) and the house was perfect. The property was even nicer than the pictures. The house itself was not fancy, but very functional and had everything we needed. Steps from the lake and the stars were amazing. Canoe, paddleboat, and small kayak for our use. The manager and owners were very responsive if we needed anything. The area is beautiful and very quiet. A truly relaxing getaway. Would definitely stay here again.
