good price, needs upgrading

  • 3 of 5

I was pleased by the price for this cottage, and its location near WindandSea beach. The beach is a pleasant walk from the cottage. The property was clean and the kitchen was fairly well equipped, and the bathroom was in good shape. The queen bed was comfortable. There is a washer and dryer, but they require coins. The one way street is narrow but we were always able to park. We would have liked an earlier time for checkin, maybe 3pm instead of 4pm. The code I had been emailed for the door lock did not work when we arrived. I called the number given by the rental company and they responded promptly and came over. The realtor was not able to get the code to work either, so it seems I was sent the wrong number. The information for the rental indicated that there would be linens available for using the sofa beds, but there were none. The realtor had to go to the office to make a new code for the door and she brought linens when she returned. The website for the rental indicated that there were 2 sofa beds in the living room and a queen bed in the bedroom, so we were counting on plenty of space for sleeping. However, both sofa beds were extremely uncomfortable with protruding wire springs, and could not be slept on. One of us slept on the sofa without unfolding the bed, but it still wasn't very comfortable. Both sofas were uncomfortable for sitting on also, and the chairs for the dining table were wobbly and had stained cushions. The weather was warm when we were there, but there was no inside latch on the screen (which was mostly metal and did not let much air in) so it was not comfortable to leave the door standing open at night. There was a cat in the area, always trying to get into the cottage. The gate into the cottage space did not latch properly. The website indicated there was a back deck for sitting, which was also something we were counting on, but when we arrived the owner had begun dismantling it. There was a lot of stuff piled around the very small outside area of the cottage and no where comfortable to sit outside. The neighborhood is very cramped and you can easily hear other phone conversations, tvs, dogs, etc., especially early in the evening. The owner was in the space around the cottage frequently while we were there, working on dismantling the deck and talking with neighbors. There were many political signs displayed in the front yard, including somewhat offensive ones.

Nice, convenient place

  • 3 of 5

This was my second time at this small cottage. I like the area, the cottage has plenty of room inside, not a lot of frills but clean and everything is working. Unfortunately, it was this time less appealing outside. The gate door lock was broken, no private outside space at all, the former back side was closed off with clutter, ugly wooden boards nailed to the fence directly in front of a window and the owner in the front cottage was loud and displayed several offending signs. This is not really what paying guests would like to see during their holidays.

This place is run down, needs a lot of work.

  • 3 of 5

I think this place is location, location.

If the owner does some work on it it will be worth it.

The sofa bed mattresses are really old and impossible to use. Ended up sleeping with 2 kids in a queen size bed.

The place is not that clean, spots on chairs, old rugs, old windows. The shower head needs a change. There's a lot of junk outside. The deck is gone, destroyed, full of nails. The bikes are full of spiders, flat and rusted. Kitchen is really old, and pans also.

The pictures on the website are old.

This place really needs some Work.

Good things, walk to beach, la Jolla is so nice.

Perfect place to stay in La Jolla

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect! Our host was amazing as well. She even dropped off fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden. The cottage was very comfortable, safe, clean and centrally located. Just a couple of blocks from one of the most beautiful beaches in La Jolla. I highly recommend this property.

Amazing week in San Diego!

  • 5 of 5

I had lived in La Jolla for several years and staying at this property was like coming home. Although it's a backhouse, it was quiet and very private. The house was spacious and was perfect for a week-long trip. The kitchen was stocked with cooking supplies, which made the visit even better. There's always more than enough street parking and you are close to all of the best parts of La Jolla. There's a washer and dryer in front of the house, so make sure you bring quarters if you plan on doing laundry ($3 total for one full load).

We had such an amazing time on our trip, and this house was a huge part of it. It's clean, comfortable, and convenient. Couldn't ask for anything more!
