House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
This is a quiet retreat on South Point at the top of Discovery Harbour, where the weather is not too hot or cold year round. We now have wi-fi internet throughout the house, but no television. We do have good signal for most cell phone plans. But please feel free to disconnect from the rest of the world and enjoy all the island has to offer. The coffeemaker has a builtin grinder for whole beans, so enjoy a cup of local coffee on the lanai.
Volcano National Park is 30 minutes away. Punaluu Black Sand Beach is 10 minutes away, and the Punaluu golf course is close to the beach.
Naalehu, the southernmost town in the U.S., is 2 miles away and offers a good farmer's market on Wdenesdays. The bakery is worth the trip, and we reccomend the Hana Hau Restatraunt as well.
Whittington Park offers great oceanside picnicking and tidal pools to explore. South Point is beautiful with the sea caves and cliff divers, and Green Sands is worth the trip.
The house has 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. There is a TV and DVD player. There is a Redbox location in Ocean View, 10 minutes down the road.

About Mark and Maggie Dudash
We fell in love with Hawaii when we went on a second honeymoon. South Point is quiet and rural, just the way we like it. We live about an hour outside of Chicago, and enjoy some of the amenities that a big city has to offer, but prefer a more quiet life, at home and on vacation. We enjoy traveling with our girls, and as a family like to explore God's creation. Living on the Great Lakes made us look for water, and we enjoy the ocean and all it has to offer.
Mark and Maggie Dudash purchased this House in 2010
Why Mark and Maggie Dudash chose Discovery Harbour
We chose South Point for its quiet rural setting and proximity to the National Park. We enjoy hiking and kayaking, and sitting on the shore listening to the ocean. We also like the tradewinds and cooler temperatures at night.
What makes this House unique
The local coffee is great. We love the access to Farmers' Markets and fruit stands. Volcano Village and Naalehu are quiet towns with a unique Island character that we appreciate. The fact that we're halfway between Hilo and Kona give us the advantage of both sides of the island to explore.

Everything you need!
Comfortable and cozy home with horizon ocean views only about 15 minutes to Punaluu Black Sand Beach where turtles regularly come ashore. A comfortable bed and nice to be able to keep the windows open 24/7 and no heating or air conditioning needed. This was my 3rd trip to the big island in 15 months and this was the best place I've stayed.
You will need a car to stay here and you can explore both sides of the island including Volcano National Park about 40 minutes away.
It was great. Roomy. Very clean.. The kitchen stocked with all kinds of things. Snacks. Condiments. Etc... It was in a quiet location. The only thing we weren't fond of was the living room sofa and chairs which were not very comfortable. Otherwise great place..
Home was very nice. We love our stay here,
Very Quiet and safe, Beautiful view of the ocean and great cross breezzs at night, it was nice to have the windows open and know that you were in a safe neighborhood the people here are very friendly. We would definitely stay again.
This home was fantastic! Everything was wonderful. The home was so clean and quiet and had everything we needed for a fantastic vacation! We visited the black sands beach, green sands beach and spent multiple days exploring the Volcanoes National Park! We highly recommend this beautiful home it was so comfortable, quiet, and spacious. Thanks for sharing your beautiful Home!!!!
Nice and quiet stay in this lovely home...
My husband and I enjoyed our two-week stay (Feb. 2018) in this quite lovely home. Mark and Maggie are excellent hosts. Their home was spotlessly clean and welcoming when we arrived. There were many other add-ons for our use as well. When our grandchildren finally arrived three days before our stay was up they were delighted with the "treasure chest" full of games and thoughtfully, a coloring book and crayons! This was our third visit to Discovery Harbor and always enjoy sunrise and listening to the many beautiful birds chirping throughout the day. We were able to observe the Jan. 31 lunar eclipse right from the front verandah. As well we enjoyed visiting our many friends! We will definitely be thinking of this home for our 2019 visit!

Stayed here 2 weeks over Christmas. The house was stocked with lots of necessities. Netflix streamed well on the TV and WiFi speed was very good. I would stay here again.
