|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This is a quiet retreat on South Point at the top of Discovery Harbour, where the weather is not too hot or cold year round. We now have wi-fi internet throughout the house, but no television. We do have good signal for most cell phone plans. But please feel free to disconnect from the rest of the world and enjoy all the island has to offer. The coffeemaker has a builtin grinder for whole beans, so enjoy a cup of local coffee on the lanai.
Volcano National Park is 30 minutes away. Punaluu Black Sand Beach is 10 minutes away, and the Punaluu golf course is close to the beach.
Naalehu, the southernmost town in the U.S., is 2 miles away and offers a good farmer's market on Wdenesdays. The bakery is worth the trip, and we reccomend the Hana Hau Restatraunt as well.
Whittington Park offers great oceanside picnicking and tidal pools to explore. South Point is beautiful with the sea caves and cliff divers, and Green Sands is worth the trip.
The house has 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. There is a TV and DVD player. There is a Redbox location in Ocean View, 10 minutes down the road.

We fell in love with Hawaii when we went on a second honeymoon. South Point is quiet and rural, just the way we like it. We live about an hour outside of Chicago, and enjoy some of the amenities that a big city has to offer, but prefer a more quiet life, at home and on vacation. We enjoy traveling with our girls, and as a family like to explore God's creation. Living on the Great Lakes made us look for water, and we enjoy the ocean and all it has to offer.
Mark and Maggie Dudash purchased this house in 2010
We chose South Point for its quiet rural setting and proximity to the National Park. We enjoy hiking and kayaking, and sitting on the shore listening to the ocean. We also like the tradewinds and cooler temperatures at night.
The local coffee is great. We love the access to Farmers' Markets and fruit stands. Volcano Village and Naalehu are quiet towns with a unique Island character that we appreciate. The fact that we're halfway between Hilo and Kona give us the advantage of both sides of the island to explore.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The property is easy to access, close to black and green sand beaches, cliff diving at South Point, and night visits to the volcano. It is spacious, clean, and so well appointed, with plentiful towels and linens and a kitchen that a gourmet would love! We were able to use pots, pans, the blender, and the gourmet coffee maker to keep our family happy and fueled. The internet works like a charm as well, though the area is so beautiful that we spend almost no time on line. The owners and property manager are communicative and responsive, making for a wonderfully smooth arrival and departure. We loved this property and will definitely come back, for longer next time, as this area has so much to offer. We would recommend this place in lieu of Kona any time, if you are up for a laid back, low key, yet adventurous time on the Big Island. Perfect in every way! Thanks.
I stayed in this home with my husband and my parents. This home was amazingly beautiful and a lovely location for our outings while on the island. We loved the spacious home and how cozy it was. It was excellent having a location to do our laundry as well.
We enjoyed our stay very much and the accomodations were very comfortable. If you are looking to find a place that's quiet and away from everything...this is the place.
Loved my three week stay here, first week with my Mom, the remaining alone. Spent much time at Green Sands, Volcano, visiting Ohana and at Punalu`u. For me, it was centrally located. Neighbors are super friendly and inviting. Hated the rooster next door the first two nights, but came to quickly love him. House was clean, well stocked, and comfortable. Miss Lizzie driving by in the morning from the Flyn Hawaiian Coffee Truck, Paradise Meadows and the little organic farm at the end of Kamaoa at South Point Road already. Mahalo!
My 19 year old son and I had a wonderful stay in this spacious home. The neighbors who take care of the property were kind and gracious. We came to explore, snorkel, and fish. Even though they did not fish themselves, they loaned us some books about fishing in Hawaii. And gave us various locations where they have seen people fishing. The location is prime for accessing Volcano National Park, Black Sand Beach. Huntington Park, South Point(the southernmost tip of the United States, I was told), and the Green Sand Beach(take the 3 mile shuttle, it is worth it). On Wednesday, we enjoyed the Farmers Market in Naalehu.
