Gorgeous Mountain Home In Rico, Near Telluride: Weekly Rates

Bedrooms 5
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 Bed, 2.5 Bath, sleeps 14

Gorgeous Colorado mountain home in the historic mining town of Rico. It is finished and furnished in an extremely tasteful and luxurious 'mountain chic' style. While Rico is 25 miles from Telluride, the distance is more than compensated for by the stunning high alpine setting at 9,000 ft. There is a view from every room in the house. It is quite large and perfectly suited to a large extended family.

The house is at the end of a long driveway with a very private and fully fenced backyard. It has three levels of living areas. The main floor has living, dining, kitchen and media rooms. The living room ceiling is two stories high with a thermostat controlled gas wood stove. The upper level has a beautiful master suite with vaulted ceilings plus a beautiful queen-size bed. The master bath has a slate floor and features a rock steam shower, jacuzzi tub, towel warmer and a walk in closet. The second bedroom on the upper level also has vaulted ceilings and a full sized bed.

Bedrooms three and four, on the lower level of the house both have full sized beds. Bedroom 5 is a kid’s room with 3 twin/full bunk beds.

There is a sunny back deck and a covered front porch. There is also a covered back porch overlooking a lush lawn area.

The region's finest restaurant, the 'Argentine Grill' is just around the corner. Don't miss Chef Eamonn O'Hara's cooking.

Rico is easily accessible from Dolores, CO or Telluride on Highway 145. Durango and Montrose airports are both about 90 miles from Rico. Telluride Airport is 28 miles away.

The Dolores River is visible from all levels of the house.

Such a great find and the O'Neals were so easy to work with.... we loved the house and everything it had to offer. Perfect accommodations for our family, especially the TV room where we could watch the Olympics! We played more games of Scrabble than I can remember and ate most of our meals there. The kitchen was awesome and well stocked with everything we needed. Kids loved having the downstairs to themselves and the master bedroom/bathroom was terrific. Rico is so charming are so are its people. We had dinner at the Argentine Grill, which was great and had a few beers at the Enterprise. We sincerely hope to visit again and stay in the same house!

Everything and more!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience in this home. It was everything described and more. The house was inviting, comfortable, and fun. Our kids loved the bunk beds, the kitchen was easy to use (with everything you could need), and we especially loved the yard with the hot tub. The house has excellent wifi, steam in the shower, heated towel racks, playhouse in the yard, fire pit, comfy furniture, and quiet neighbors. The house was also really clean (and smelled lovely due to the reed diffusers dispersed throughout the home!). There is so much to do in the area. We hiked, camped, caught fish, our little boys went horseback riding at a ranch down the road, and Telluride is a short, beautiful drive away. We booked last minute and the owners could not have been more accommodating and responsive to us. We strongly recommend and hope to rent again!

Our Favorite Home Away From Home in Colorado

  • 5 of 5

This is our third time in this property and we wouldn't ever stay anywhere else! It is truly a home that has been professionally decorated with a perfect blend of mountain chic and modern comforts. We especially love the Chef's Kitchen and the Home Theater room with big overstuffed couches and surround sound. Starting the day with a quick scenic drive to Telluride, we ski almost everyday and finish the day back at the house in the hot tub overlooking the aspens and frozen river.

Our friends with kids have stayed with us a couple of the times and they absolutely love the downstairs kids room with bunk beds made of rustic tree branches, they would literally disappear for hours and then we would see them in the back yard playing in the treehouse or at the fire pit. The back yard is easily accessed from the kids room and a multi floor deck sits over the back yard. Even when its snowing, we would relax in the hot tub and grill out on the top deck and have steak night with the family. When we don't want to cook, our go to place is Enterprise Pizza at the bottom of the hill, GREAT pizza after a long day skiing and local craft beers for the adults.

In short, we come here at least once every winter and are looking at two weeks next year because we love it so much. You can really tell the owners love this place and put a lot of heart and soul into the place. We talked to the owners and found out that the vintage piano in the living room was loaned to them from a local family that wanted it to be in a good home in Telluride for many more generations to come. Every time we come back, we see a new addition or upgrade.

Great property, very cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed at this property as part of an extended family reunion, and have no complaints whatsoever about our time there. Plenty of space, bedrooms, very nicely furnished, and no shortage of beautiful scenery, both at the home and when traveling nearby. We spent LOTS of time in the private, fenced backyard, and the kids enjoyed playing in the playhouse as well as with the provided toys inside the house. Easy and smooth communication with the owners, and everything was just as they said it would be.... no surprises except for perhaps being more satisfied than we would have even thought. We had a peaceful and relaxing time and hope to stay here again if heading back this way.

Our Favorite Place to Stay in the Telluride Area!

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in a winter wonderland at the crest of a hill overlooking the quaint town of Rico, this heavenly home could not have been more perfect for our family! When we first pulled into the long driveway, we were speechless. Wood for a roaring fire was stacked on the porch, sleds for romping in the snow were provided, and steam from the hot tub around the corner told me this was going to be one of the most relaxing, enjoyable vacations ever. Upon entering the home, the rustic decor, plush furnishings (including a historic piano), amenity-filled kitchen, and floor to ceiling windows were unbelievable. The views from each window were just as spectacular! Did I mention spacious? The three-story home is quite spacious and easily accommodated our party of eight (8). I especially enjoyed the versatility of the home in regards to ample space for gathering together as a family, yet at the same time, nooks and crannies (such as the entertainment room) to enjoy cuddle time with a family member or quiet time with a book. My kids absolutely loved the bunk-bed room with the double-bed base and single-bed topper, and truly the fluffiest comforters and pillows for a great nights sleep.

Location, location, location! Even though we could have stayed in the house the entire vacation (It was that wonderful!), my family and I walked to Rico at the base of the hill each day! You may ask what would motivate us to walk close to a mile through the snow. Many things! This town has character. From the small little coffee house, where you can meet a local or two, to the craft beer store with over 100 different labels, to the community pub (Enterprise Bar & Grill) w/great food and fun (pool tables), the options are endless. Not only did we enjoy the indoor venues, we enjoyed the outdoor ones too. There are walking trails and natural hot springs too. You have to find them though...that's why you go to the coffee house, to meet the locals, and learn about the town's secret treasures. If you traveled to Rico to venture on to Telluride, perfect! It is a very short drive to the gondola, which takes you right into the heart of the ski resorts. We had the best of all worlds staying in this vacation home! We will definitely be back! As captivating as the home and scenery is in the winter, I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer! This is definitely my family's favorite place to stay near Telluride, maybe my family's favorite place to stay anywhere!

We stayed at this property in early summer time and my family of 4 loved every minute. The house is beautiful and the views are stunning. The house is in a good location and communication with the owner was easy. This multilevel home had more than enough room for our family, it even had a nice playroom downstairs. It was so peaceful there, the river nearby added a nice background to an already great area. The drive to Telluride is about 25 minutes but doesn't feel long at all, scenery is nice. There's easy access to the gondola that can take you right into Telluride. I would definitely stay here again.
