Beautiful one bedroom log cabin across the street from a private beach on the bras d'or lakes. The cabin is two years old featuring a big front patio surrounded by nature on picturesque cape breton island. Located across the street from a private beach, you can walk for miles and not see anybody. From cape dauphin you can do all your day trips around the island. Down the road there is kelly's wharf where you can fish mackerel, buy fresh lobster, join in with the cottagers for a bonfire. Close by there is bird island boat tours, boat charters and whale watching, world-class golf course (bell bay), highlands national park, hiking trails, alexander graham bell museum and historic fortress of louisbourg. It is 50 minutes from sydney, 30 minutes to shopping area in north sydney, 25 minutes to the tourist town of baddeck.
We traveled from Michigan & spent a week in Sept 2016: the listing was very accurate and the log cabin was just as nice as described. It seemed huge compared to the usual B & B or hotel room and the cost was more than reasonable; we saved some money by eating breakfast there and cooked a few dinners but there is also a good restaurant / bakery fairly close by with the usual polite & friendly Nova Scotian service.
You have to drive about 6 miles up a dirt road to get to the cabin but the ride is scenic; need to drive slowly around the curves but there is very little traffic ( the road dead-ends ) and the other drivers are extremely polite,
as they are throughout Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island.
The owner's father lives just across the road, is very personable and friendly and came over right away to answer our questions; he built this
modern cabin and it is very well-constructed and tight. It's a very safe, quiet and peaceful location.
There is a beach across the road - not a " white sand " beach as we have in Michigan or Florida but we did not
Well this may sound like an advertisement or that I'm related to the owner but no, I was just pleasantly
surprised to see that the cabin was as good or better than described and thought I should post a review.
( Actually I should not have been surprised because the residents of Nova Scotia
are still as honest, polite and genuinely friendly as they were on our first trip 13 years ago).
Our stay was a great experience in Cape Dauphin. The house had all the amenities that we were looking for in a beautiful and quiet environment. Cory provided us with a list of local places and directions that were really helpful to kick off our stay. Overall, a great vacation and a place to go back to!
It was my wife, my child and my self. Beautiful newer log cabin. 25 min to the closest grocery store. Tiny refrigerator but worked for what we needed it for. Gas grill out side for food. Bath room was nice, towels and face cloths were soft. No washer or dryer but nice close line out side. No internet or cell service if you have sprint. Small TV but good dish network on the rainy days or late night tv cravings (also has dvd player). Over all, if you want to get away from reality, this is the place to do it! I will prob go back again and use the same place! Short walk to the rocky ocean beach. Beautiful nights. I really can't say enough good things about this cabin. Owners live across the way and totally make sure you have everything you need. Very nice and polite. (if you are tall 6ft +, shower is just a bit uncomfortable but do able.)
I stayed here for a week and was very happy with my choice. It is in a quiet area with great scenery, and is comfortable and had all the accommodations to make a week long stay away from home as comfortable and convenient as can be. I will definitely stay here if I come to Nova Scotia againot and strongly recommend this place to anyone visiting Cape Breton for a week. You will be very happy with it.
The cottage is great--VERY clean and comfortable for 2 people.
The gravel road was not an issue at all--it was better than many of the gravel roads we travelled on in Cape Breton.
The owner is very responsive. We had a bit of an issue getting the DVD player to work one evening, but the owner's father was over to fix it within 10 minutes of contacting the owner. His father lives nearby and is very friendly.
It's a bit of a walk to get to the beach, but we enjoyed one day walking to Cape Dauphin and exploring the beach.
Baddock, on the Cabot Trail, is a very cute little town about 20 minutes from the cottage. It's the closest place for groceries, gas, restaurants, coffee, etc. The cottage is well situated to get to Sydney and places on the Cabot Trail. Yet, it is far enough away from everything to be quiet and private.
Overall, we too second Austin B's recommendation as a great place to get away from it all.
It was a very pretty little place. Just right for a honeymoon! Thanks! We were able to do most of our meals there, which was very nice. It was clean and the owners parents were very nice!
We toured the area (it was very pretty!) and walked on the beach and did some whale watching and just roamed around Baddock some.
Just a note: if you go to this area in the summertime, bring some bug spray!
Would definitely recommend this place for someone looking to "get away form it all"
