About owner/property manager

My husband, daughter, and I love this area and this house with a passion which is why we called it Fontana Passion Lake Lodge. We love the peaceful 12,000 acre lake with 240 miles of shoreline which provides numerous opportunities for the outdoor sportsperson. We personally love to waterski, kneeboad, and kayak.

My husband is a physical therapist and I am in medical sales.

We hope you love this house and area as much as we do and come back often to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and reenergize.

owner/property manager purchased this lodge in 2011

Why owner/property manager chose Lake Santeetlah

We have been going to this area for over 30 years and always wanted to own property there. Since 85% of property on Fontana Lake is owned by the forest service (accounts for the minimal boat traffic, unspoiled, and peaceful area )we were fortunate to find this property for sale and made our dream come true. We love the close proximity to Asheville, mountain biking, rafting, tubing at Bryson City, casinos at Cherokee, and breathtaking mountain views.

What makes this lodge unique

Directly on the lake with immediate water access and private boat dock with slide. Secluded area with minimal homes and boat traffic on lake to enjoy the scenery.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"I want to let you know what a wonderful time my entire family had at the lake and the lake house made it a special time for all of us. The house is absolutely gorgeous, with lovely decorations and amenities. All of the beds were very comfortable. The downstairs ice maker was a great idea as well as all of the entertainment items."

Perfect family retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 adults, a three-year old, a 10-month old and 3 English bulldogs just spent the most restful and peaceful week in this comfortable, well-equipped lodge. The open floor plan and user-friendly kitchen encouraged lots of fun cooking and conviviality, and the pontoon boat was great for lounging and putting around without worrying about the little ones' safety. There was plenty of room to spread out, and the porches were delightful for reading or just soaking up the beautiful view. We were so content at the house that we only ventured out once to visit Bryson City, a cute town about 40 minutes away, with many interesting shops and restaurants. The draw-down of Lake Fontana was noticeable but did not interfere at all with swimming, boating or fishing. Even walking the dogs was enjoyable, as the one-lane road is lovely and shady. A week of pure heaven!!!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, well furnished home with lots of room to spread out. Even tho the lake levels were down, it did not interfere with boating and swimming. For anyone wanting to get away from it all, we highly recommend it!

The owners kept us well informed about things regarding the lake which was very helpful. The one lane road coming in to the location was a bit scary for us since we weren't accustomed to being on one, but we just took it slow!

Owner's Response: For future guests: After traveling on the one mile hard packed gravel road coming into the house close to 2000 times over the last 8 years I have encountered a car coming the opposite direction possibly 5 times total which was a non issue. Although there are about 8 houses on this one mile road, there is only 1 full time resident. There are multiple places to pull over to let the oncoming car pass and if that is not possible, one of the cars can always safely back up for a little bit to accommodate the other car.

Absolutely amazing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Fontana Passion. We loved having the pontoon boat and the jet ski right there at the house to use. The lake is crystal clear green with not a lot of people. It's so peaceful and relaxing. Thanks Gaylene for making our stay wonderful! We will be back (if we can get reservations being that it gets booked a year in advance!).

Beautiful Lakefront Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I recently hosted a group of good friends at Gaylene's waterfront cabin. This place was perfect! I loved using the kayaks and paddle board, as well as the pontoon. Fontana Lake was the draw and having water amenities took the experience to another level. The cabin was perfect regarding size and amenities. We took advantage of the pool table and ping pong table every evening. The movie room was a big hit with the crowd, but I was also able to spend quality time with my husband away from the group. You would always find someone sitting on the second level porch, relaxing, reading a book, enjoying the view or chatting with a friend. This, by far, has been the best cabin I have rented for my annual motorcycle trip, with friends. I would highly recommend this cabin for friends and family!

Wonderful....but....

  • 4 of 5

The lake lodge is beautiful and Lake Fontana is breathtaking......only downside was the owner. A week before our arrival, after making all payments, fees and security deposits, I received a " welcome letter" that was far from welcoming! There were 5 pages of rules that struck fear in our hearts. The second day of our stay Gaylene shows up to post more rules inside and outside the house......very uncomfortable, to say the least! If you want a truly laid back, stress free "get away", try another place.

Owner's Response: The welcome letter has information, instructions, and key code access to the house and is typically sent out 30 days before the rental date so guests know what to expect; unless the security deposit is sent late. After 6 years of rentals, the welcome letter has answers and information to all the typical questions I have received, and details the expectations for the house and grounds. If guests read and follow the rental agreement there should be no surprises or concerns with the welcome letter or with renting this house.

Best vacation house ever!

  • 5 of 5

The house was big enough for two families. There was plenty of room to hang out together and plenty of quiet places to go if someone wanted to quietly read a book. The pontoon boat and kayaks were a big hit with everyone. We roasted s'mores on the firepit, sipped coffee while sitting on the porch swing, soaked sore muscles in the hot tub, and watched movies in the theater room. My favorite thing was the kitchen, dining, and family room area. We could congregate while cooking and then eat together. Gaylene had everything we needed for serving a large group. We grilled steaks, baked pizza, and made big breakfasts. The barrel checker game and ping pong table were used daily. The view of the lake from all of the porches was beautiful! The Ingles grocery store in Robbinsville was great and had all the food items we needed each day. The house was clean and I felt like I was staying at a friend's house while she was away. Gaylene has the house set up, ready to use, comfy and welcoming. We had a great vacation. My kids and my husband voted it the "best vacation ever"! Our friends were able to join us with their 3 children and everyone had lots of fun together. Gaylene's area guide was great for finding local phone numbers and places to go. We rode horses, went white water rafting, and tubing in the Smokies. Gaylene was also reachable to answer the few questions we had while we were there.
