About Owner / Property Manager

We are a British-Greek couple who found this old stone mansion house which had been disused since the 1950's. We renovated it over a period of years restoring it to its original Neoclassical state but with the addition of modern facilities and a new floor containing a hydromassage suite. We are a professional couple who chose to turn our dream into reality for the enjoyment of others who are open to the beauty and peace of the area.

Owner / Property Manager purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Magnesia Prefecture

The house is a historic Neoclassical mansion of 1884 and forms a rare part of the Pelion architectural heritage. It has been restored in every detail along with many original items and reproductions included. Our ethos is small scale individual tourism with high quality and a welcome atmosphere. We also facilitate many local trips & activities. The location is unique in being in the center of Portaria, an ideal spot from which to explore the region of Pelion in which you can swim on one of Greece's most famous beaches on day 1, take a mountain walk on day 2 & on day 3 discover the ancient stone 'paths of the centaurs' through ancient Forrest which used to be the only connection between the many local villages which are now great for touring & cuisine. The variety of the area in its landscape & activities on offer see many return visitors and the area is still unspoilt by mass tourism. Due to its diversity the area is also an all year destination. Apart from the local beaches there is a Ski resort at 12 km distance operating in the Winter and in the Spring & autumn the forests & wildlife provide rich experiences.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Every aspect of the house has been lovingly restored and we believe this attention to detail translates to the experience of the visitor, from the individual carvings of the Lotus Tree (found growing in our garden) in the granite sink tops in the bathrooms, to the hand picked tiles in the floors of the breakfast rooms, to the undisturbed relaxation of the hydromassage facility. Our personal service also aims to provide our guests with as much help & assistance as possible in all aspects of their trips & excursions. We organize local walking & mountain bike trips and excursions to Meteora, day sailing in the Aegean and many more activities.

Schöne Zeit/Nice Time in Portaria

  • 5 of 5

Superb - Nice Time in Portaria, a village near GR-Volos. Friendly Welcome, great Breakfast-buffet, room-facilities. Object little bit hard to find. The ad of the owner should be reduced of pictures showing seaside and beside of it, it should show turn-by-turn directions to the object - its name "The Lotus Tree".

The Pelion Area. The ‘mountain of the centaurs’ is an outstanding area of natural beauty formed by a peninsula extending into the Aegean providing a perfect combination of sea, mountain, forest & stream based activities. Therefore a great variety of activities is available from lying on one of Greece’s best beaches on day 1 to a mountain hike along one of the famous Pelion stone paths on day 2 following the sound of cool streams through ancient forest, sampling the traditional local cuisine, visiting one of the many picturesque villages or local craft shops or simply just enjoying the beautiful views at every turn. There is something for everyone.

Portaria Village. Portaria, Pelion’s most popular and accessible village is a perfect base from which to explore this area which has remained a unspoilt hidden gem and is relatively unknown outside Greece. It is close enough to Volos to be within easy reach of many beaches, but located on the main Volos-Hania road making an easy jump point for exploring the larger Pelion area. We organize activities & tours suitable for all levels & ages from mountain biking, hiking the Pelion waterfalls, nature trails, excursions to Meteora, some famous local beaches, day sailing & many more.

The Guest House is ideally situated being within one minutes walk of the main square, restaurants & shops. It is just off the main road avoiding traffic noise and is set in a very tranquil location. Portaria also provides a perfect location from which to explore the many varies scenic villages of the region, Forrest walks and beaches. The scenic village of Makrinitsa is 3 km away from the Lotus Tree and the touristic port town of Volos featuring many traditional taverns is a 20-minute drive away and from where regular modern fast ferries go to the local islands.
