Soldotna House Rental Photos and Description

Large Duplex, 5 Bed/3 Bath, (Sleeps 12 singles in beds, 16 sharing, 18 max )

LUXURY CUSTOM HOME WITH HUGE DECK/LAWN WITH FANTASTIC MOUNTAIN AND WILDLIFE REFUGE VIEWS!! PERFECT FOR FAMILY GATHERINGS. KID FRIENDLY!

Welcome! We invite you to stay in our wonderful custom-made post and beam home. Designed and constructed by master builder Gregory Corse, this architecturally stunning home will provide a comfortable and inspiring retreat for your Alaskan adventures. The house was built using centuries old techniques from the German master builders. The 40' vaulted ceiling of the great room boasts incredible hand-hewn beam and joinery work, with a cascading wall of windows overlooking rich green forests and stunning glacial capped mountains.

Situated on 9 acres of beautifully forested land on a bluff overlooking the Kenai Wildlife Refuge, this house is just a THREE-MINUTE drive or 15-minute walk from the world famous Kenai River at Morgan's Landing State Park headquarters where you can fish from the bank. Located in Sterling on the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna (shops, dining, laundry, movies, etc) is just a 15-minute drive away. Day trips to Homer or Seward for saltwater fishing, glacier fjord tours, art/crafts/artifacts shopping and amazing seafood dining are just 1.5 hours away. Whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing are all within 20 to 45 minutes away.

From the large Chalet deck enjoy midnight sun BBQs after a hard day's fishing or hiking. You can relax here with friends while watching eagles, hawks, and loons soar in the valley below. Early morning coffee on the deck may also offer views of moose as they wander across the property.

Guests really enjoy the large lawn area which has a lovely fire pit and sitting area. Imagine relaxing by the fire, enjoying the setting sun and endless views of the Kenai National Widlife Refuge and distant Chugach National Forest mountain range.

The Chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and quality bedding/towels, and outdoor gas Weber grill. Guests have access to 2 adult mountain bikes and a variety of children's bikes and outdoor toys.

The Chalet is the upper two-story portion of a duplex. The Hide-A-Way is the bottom unit of the duplex. The Chalet master bedroom (1 queen bed) is on the top floor, with alcove (and additional full size bed) and en suite bath with jetted tub. The master also has it's own private balcony with incredible views. Downstairs are two bedrooms and another full bath. First bedroom has 1 king bed. The other bedroom (great for kids!) has a twin bunk bed, and room for regular or toddler aero bed (supplied) if needed.

The ground floor also boasts the "great room": large and comfortable kitchen, dining and living area with lots of windows and incredible views. There is a full size pull out couch in the living area for larger groups.

The Hide-A-Way has 2 bedrooms (1 with 2 sets of bunkbeds, ok for kids or adults) and the other has one queen bed). There is a 3/4 bath with laundry room. The kitchen/living area boasts a custom made rock wall gas fireplace. There is also a daybed in the living area which can be used for sleeping.

This property has been in my family since 1979. Having grown up in Alaska, I understand and appreciate what a unique experience The Great Land can offer and I hope to share that with you. The Chalet is our personal vacation home, and we look forward to coming home each summer from our work overseas. Since this is our personal home, you'll find everything you need.

Alaska is a wonderland of natural beauty and amazing resources, which our family has spent generations protecting through conservation efforts. We welcome you to our home where you too can become a 'Sourdough' and share in this unique experience. The home is available year round. Winter travelers will be rewarded with an incredible show of colorful northern lights and millions of stars in the dark Arctic night. Nearby winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and hot beverage drinking! Summer guests will be rewarded with midnight sun, vast and expansive views, solitude, wildlife, and world-class salmon and halibut fishing. COME EXPERIENCE YOUR ALASKAN DREAM VACATION!

About Juniper Neill

Raised in Alaska...this property was our family homestead. We lived a subsistance lifestyle here...which I didn't fully appreciate until I was grown up! Now I live and work overseas, but Alaska, and this property, will always be our home. I work in international conservation, and growing up in Alaska gave me a real appreciation for protecting our planet's most amazing natural places...this area being one of them!

Juniper Neill purchased this house in 1979

Why Juniper Neill chose Kenai Peninsula

There is no place like this in the whole world. We love coming home from our work overseas to this special house and tranquil setting. It's the only place in the world that feels like home.

What makes this house unique

We love to BBQ on the large back deck, overlooking the forest and distant mountain range. Nothing but trees for hundreds of miles! What a view! It's a great way to relax and just reconnect with your family in a quiet and peaceful place.

We had a wonderful time! Beautiful views and decks to admire them from. Enjoyed adventuring around the area, going on walks, checking out the nature park right down the road. Thanks for the many great memories...a perfect Alaskan getaway😄򑀊

Ideal for a big group! Well-situated, tidy, with a great view from the Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Although we had seen photos of the cabins and the chalet, we were more than delighted when we arrived. Everything was even better than we had hoped. There were twenty-four of us, using the Chalet, the Hide-a-way, the Guest House and the Chinook. The laundry rooms provided what we needed for wet fishing clothes, and of course all the towels we used. All the fishing gear, the refrigerator and freezer space in the shop were well-used; the bicycles also.

We enjoyed eating on the deck (when it wasn't raining!) and sitting around the fire (ditto); and playing games around the dining table. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes and cookware.

It was great to have kitchens in each of the cabins, especially for morning coffee time.

We took several day trips to Seward; some of us took fishing trips there and at Homer; others took a boat tour on Kenai Fjords; some rode a zipline at Seward; we visited Sealife Center; and some of us toured the Visitors Center at Soldotna, and the Homestead Village where the volunteers were simply delightful. (the highlight was meeting Margaret Mullen, the first woman to settle there).

We saw moose off Morgan's Landing road; and puffins, mountain goats, sea lions, murres, cormorants, and whales on the boat tour; and on the one clear morning I glimpsed the Northern Lights.

Sharon was very informative and helpful, with a shining spirit of peace in her demeanor. She kindly sent items home that we unfortunately left there, bless her heart.

The lawns were well-maintained and everything was tidy and clean when we arrived (and hopefully not too messy when we left!).

We had a great time, would definitely recommend this excellent Home Away From Home to anyone considering a trip to the Kenai Peninsula.

Reunion with old friends

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic trip to Sterling. The chalet was perfect for our family to share with old friends. The kitchen is large with modern appliances - great for cooking for groups. The view from the back deck is stunning and the kids loved the fire pit. Walking distance to the Kenai River for fishing. Close to hiking trails and canoeing. Keanu Peninsula was a great place for our family vacation and the chalet was the perfect place to stay.

Best family vacation EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5

This property could not be better - the views are magnificent, the home is beautiful and very comfortable, the kitchen and grill were fully stocked with every implement we could possibly need, and the location is ideal for exploring the Kenai Peninsula. Also lots of sleeping options make it a great fit for a large group like ours.

It was an easy drive from Anchorage. From the chalet as home base we were able to do day trips to Seward and Homer, go rafting from Coopers Landing, and explore the many hiking trails in the area. We felt so immersed in nature that my 8 year old son didn't want to come home to Colorado because there's no longer enough nature in Colorado for him after he's stayed here.

Don't Hesitate Booking This Property!! Excellent Location, Property, Amenities, Caretaker, and Host

  • 5 of 5

I've reserved a lot through VRBO, and this was definitely one of our best experiences. We had a family reunion with 16 family members in Alaska this summer. We booked with Juniper almost a year and a half before the event. First, she was very responsive to our inquiries. Her rates are extremely fair, especially taking into account that we were booking the busiest time of the year. She was very helpful in the months leading up to the event, with our random questions and in providing suggestions about sites in the area.

The property itself is stunning. Honestly, the photos don't come close to doing it justice. All of the rooms are bigger than they appear in the photos. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We didn't want for anything, and if there was anything we were in search of we could almost always find it in the large cabinet in the entryway, or in the garage. The windows in the great room are amazing -- like being outdoors (but not having to deal with the mosquitoes), and it was bigger than expected. Our large family had no problem comfortably gathering there on rainy Alaska days when we couldn't gather on the deck. The view from the deck was fabulous. On nights when it was dark because of clouds, I could only see two lights in the far, far distance of other properties in the same area. Although it's easy to get to the main road, it really feels very secluded, like we had the whole area to our family.

We had a slight maintenance question, which Sharon (the caretaker), responded to and resolved before it was ever an issue. Extremely impressed with her kindness and quick action. Sharon even sent me a text on the day of our arrival that she had opened the property for us so we'd be able to get in easily the first time.

When booking vacation properties I usually focus on these things: Helpful/responsive owner, clean/maintained property, comfortable beds w/nice sheets (nothing worse than a bed you're afraid to sleep in), a "wow" factor in location/view, hassle-free check-in, and the extra amenities that make a vacation run smoothly. All of these were five star in our experience.

We had an excellent family reunion! Great fishing at nearby Morgan's Landing, awesome day trip to Homer, kids riding bikes (available at the property) during our down time, fishing charter out of Seward, hiking the Russian River, and pastries at The Moose Is Loose! It was a great time, which this property made unforgettable! THANKS JUNIPER!
