Welcome! We invite you to stay in our wonderful custom-made post and beam home. Designed and constructed by master builder Gregory Corse, this architecturally stunning home will provide a comfortable and inspiring retreat for your Alaskan adventures. The house was built using centuries old techniques from the German master builders. The 40' vaulted ceiling of the great room boasts incredible hand-hewn beam and joinery work, with a cascading wall of windows overlooking rich green forests and stunning glacial capped mountains.

Situated on 6 acres of beautifully forested land on a bluff overlooking the Kenai Wildlife Refuge, this house is just a THREE-MINUTE drive or 15-minute walk from the world famous Kenai River at Morgan's Landing State Park headquarters where you can fish from the bank. Located in Sterling on the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna (shops, dining, laundry, movies, etc) is just a 15-minute drive away. Day trips to Homer or Seward for saltwater fishing, glacier fjord tours, art/crafts/artifacts shopping and amazing seafood dining are just 1.5 hours away. Whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing are all within 20 to 45 minutes away.

From the large Chalet deck enjoy midnight sun BBQs after a hard day's fishing or hiking. You can relax here with friends while watching eagles, hawks, and loons soar in the valley below. Early morning coffee on the deck may also offer views of moose as they wander across the property.

Guests really enjoy the large lawn area which has a lovely fire pit and sitting area. Imagine relaxing by the fire, enjoying the setting sun and endless views of the Kenai National Widlife Refuge and distant Chugach National Forest mountain range.

The Chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and quality bedding/towels, and outdoor gas Weber grill. Guests have access to 2 adult mountain bikes and a variety of children's bikes and outdoor toys.

The Chalet is the upper two-story portion of a duplex. The Hide-A-Way is the bottom unit of the duplex. The Chalet master bedroom (1 queen bed) is on the top floor, with alcove (and additional full size bed) and en suite bath with jetted tub. The master also has it's own private balcony with incredible views. Downstairs in the Chalet are two bedrooms and another full bath. First bedroom has 1 king bed. The other bedroom (great for kids!) has a twin bunk bed, and room for regular or toddler aero bed (supplied) if needed. The living room has a full size pull out couch bed.

The ground floor of the Chalet also boasts the "great room": large and comfortable kitchen, dining and living area with lots of windows and incredible views.

The Hide-A-Way (walk-out basement below the Chalet) has 2 bedrooms. The first bedroom has a queen bed and twin size pull out couch bed. The second has a queen bed. The living area also has a twin day bed with extra mattress underneath for extra sleeping areas. The kitchen/living area boasts a custom made rock wall gas fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped. The bathroom has a nice, tiled, walk-in shower. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer.

This property has been in my family since 1979. Having grown up in Alaska, I understand and appreciate what a unique experience The Great Land can offer and I hope to share that with you. The Chalet is our personal vacation home, and we look forward to coming home each summer from our work overseas. Since this is our personal home, you'll find everything you need.

Alaska is a wonderland of natural beauty and amazing resources, which our family has spent generations protecting through conservation efforts. We welcome you to our home where you too can become a 'Sourdough' and share in this unique experience. The home is available year round. Winter travelers will be rewarded with an incredible show of colorful northern lights and millions of stars in the dark Arctic night. Nearby winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and hot beverage drinking! Summer guests will be rewarded with midnight sun, vast and expansive views, solitude, wildlife, and world-class salmon and halibut fishing. COME EXPERIENCE YOUR ALASKAN DREAM VACATION!

Great place for guys' annual fishing trip

  • 5 of 5

Great place for lodging, cooking, entertaining. Excellent kitchen amenities. Gas range and outdoor grill. Excellent elevated patio with amazing views of mountains in the distance. Close enough to town but far enough for privacy and closeness to outdoors. Owner and on-site caretaker establish contact well in advance of arrival with continuity throughout stay. We did a river float for silver salmon and met the guide about 15 minutes away from the house. Halibut fishing in homer was approximately 2 hours away. Great grocery store in soldotna about 20 mins away (Kroger affiliate). Fish packing processing/shipping at tanner's 20 mins away as well. One of the nicer vrbo' we've stayed and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

My family stayed here for a whole week and never lacked for anything! A beautiful home in a beautiful setting. Excellent accommodations, a kitchen with everything you could need or want, nice bathrooms, awesome porch with forever views, and quiet.

Definitely will stay here again if we get to return to the Kenai Peninsula!

Thank you for great stay!

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice and Sharon was very helpful with any questions we had. The backyard deck was really nice and there was a Weber grill which we used for some dinners. There were plenty of kitchenware and we enjoyed eating at the house versus restaurants.

Beautiful Property with plenty of room for our crew!

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was perfect for our group. There was plenty of room for our group of 12. Sharon was always there if we needed anything (although, we never did). The property is as advertised and I would definitely stay there again. Love the location, scenery, and view of the mountains. You won't be disappointed.

vacation for extended family

  • 5 of 5

The house and location worked well for our needs - five members of an extended family. The manager/caretaker lives nearby and was very kind about getting back to us quickly when questions came up. We definitely agree with the other enthusiastic written reviews. We will admit to not completely having understood the layout of the house. Our party consisted of three single adults and a couple. We used only the larger unit of the duplex which was full of light, the smaller unit darker. One adult slept in a child's bunk, two adults slept in connected adult bedrooms with no door separating them, and the couple had their own room. The lack of an interior connection between the duplexes caused us to decide not to spill over into the second space. We did a lot of cooking together and the open kitchen was spacious and wonderfully equipped. We enjoyed sitting around a campfire in the evenings. The deck was often used. It was a wonderful week!

Beautiful Property with Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully maintained home/chalet, with fully equipped kitchen. Lots of space for our large family, even a play room with toys for younger children (which was a blessing). The owner's property manager lives on site and checked in with us to make sure we didn't need anything (which we didn't because everything was thought of). We would definitely stay there again without hesitation. Virginia S.

About Juniper Neill

Raised in Alaska...this property was our family homestead. We lived a subsistance lifestyle here...which I didn't fully appreciate until I was grown up! Now I live and work overseas, but Alaska, and this property, will always be our home. I work in international conservation, and growing up in Alaska gave me a real appreciation for protecting our planet's most amazing natural places...this area being one of them!

Juniper Neill purchased this house in 1979

Why Juniper Neill chose Sterling

There is no place like this in the whole world. We love coming home from our work overseas to this special house and tranquil setting. It's the only place in the world that feels like home.

What makes this house unique

We love to BBQ on the large back deck, overlooking the forest and distant mountain range. Nothing but trees for hundreds of miles! What a view! It's a great way to relax and just reconnect with your family in a quiet and peaceful place.
