Great potential but needs updating

  • 3 of 5

This is the 4th time we have rented this house. The location is great, really cannot be beat. However, when we got to the house we found sand all over the furniture. The upstairs bathroom is rather sketchy. There was a newer microwave which was handy but the fridge had issues as it didn't cool. We called the rental agency and they sent someone over quickly to check it out. He vacuumed the coils and said it looked like it had never been cleaned. After a day the fridge started to cool. The bottom shelf on the door is broken thus you cannot store anything in it. The kitchen is small but has a dishwasher.

The house lacks air conditioning but does have 2 ceiling fans and one floor fan (more are needed especially during the summer as it was ridiculously hot on the second floor).

Nice front deck but it is falling apart (one of our guests had their chair leg fall between the slats while she was sitting in it). The backyard has a hot tub but that is about it. Ping pong table by the garage and a washer and dryer.

The house really needs some love and attention. Update the fixtures, redo the front deck, finish the backyard, update kitchen and bathrooms (especially the upstairs one), more ceiling fans or a/c and a good, I mean REALLY GOOD, thorough cleaning top to bottom.

It is hard to find an affordable rental in South Lake Tahoe during July. We have had other rentals for comparable prices with MUCH better ameneties but not at this location.

Will we rent it again next year? Probably not unless it gets updated, fixed, cleaned and cared for.

I feel bad writing a fairly negative review but having owned rental properties in the past and using vacation rentals I feel this property is missing out on a lot of potential not only for the owners but for ther renters!

Pretty amazing experience

  • 5 of 5

Came up to Tahoe for a weekend away with the boys. Booked this cabin based on location to the casinos. 4 block walk and you are there. The lake was a 2 block walk.

Decent sized living room with 2 couches and a chair and tv mounted on the wall. Had a fire place too but we didn't use it since it was summer.

Kitchen had the basic fridge, dishwasher, oven/stove, microwave. The kitchen table sat 8 people.

Down the hall there was one bathroom as well as a laundry room and then a master bedroom/bathroom as well as another bedroom.

Upstairs in the loft area, there were 2 bunk beds and then another 2 bedrooms as well as a bathroom.

Outside there was a spa which worked great as well as a ping pong table (bring your own balls).

The only bad thing was the gas BBQ was old and not working. One call to the main office had a maintenance guy come out and confirm the BBQ was indeed broken and 1 hour later, we had a brand new BBQ brought to the house. Couldn't ask for better customer service on that.

I would highly recommend this cabin and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Property is a gem but seriously lacking care by the owner

  • 4 of 5

This place has some big positives and some eye-opening negatives. Overall, if you can manage to fit in 8 people somehow, it is well worth it though you will be griping about certain things even as you enjoy the real-Tahoe ambiance, spaciousness of the lot, exceptionally generous parking (6? no problem at all), and location ... all of which are excellent.

We were 8 unrelated adult males and only managed to sleep 8 because one guy brought an inflatable and one used an RV parked outside. The bunk beds are for small people and kids at best and one bunk set is situated in an area much akin to a windowless closet. The master BR w/ its own deck and bathroom and good TV was very choice.

Some serious negatives include ...

- inadequate bathroom upstairs supposedly for 10 people ("sleeps 14" requires sleeping 10 upstairs). The shower stall is the cheapest ever, a free-standing metal-sided thing without even a soap dish inside. No towel racks anywhere, either. Sink is tiny - just a sink, period.

- BRs upstairs either have no coat hangers or not even a rod to hang them on.

- Kitchen lacks any sharp knife for chopping/cutting, drawers that fall out, ancient cutting block table w/ no storage underneath (a valuable space wasted), utensil tray with no place to go (just set atop microwave), very miscellaneous or inadequate collection of dishes (maybe 4 bowls total).

- LR is fine but TV is bad quality picture large flat screen. Barely watchable but even a thrift store would not want it.

- Porch is great asset but has a hidden hazard - one of us unwittingly set a chair atop a knot hole and the leg plunged through, leaving him on his back and the chair broken.

- no secure garbage can storage for pick ups (no metal box).

Hopefully the owner will fix some of the egregious problems and get a decent TV. That being said, all-in-all one can have a very nice time here. It is so nice to easily walk to the free beach (with complimentary pass), Harvey's, the gondola, Driftwood for breakfast.
