We purchased this property as a quick escape from NYC. Since it is under 2 hours from Manhattan, we do not feel as though we are spending half the weekend traveling to the country. While this property feels remote once on location, it is very close to all Hudson has to offer: shopping, live music, food, farmer's market, and theater. Withing 15 minutes of 111 Miller Road, there are no less than 12 outstanding restaurants. That said, we spend most of our time buying ingredients from local farmers and making our own meals.
Outdoor activities surround 111 Miller Road: fishing, boating, hiking, are all witihin a 5-10 minute drive if not on the property itself...
We planned a staff strategic planning retreat for 4 adults. The location was ideal as we had one person coming from Boston another from Saratoga and then from NYC. The property is beautiful and although the house is situated close to the road, it felt very private and rural quiet. It is obvious that the owner loves this home and stays there often as the mattresses were very comfortable with lovely bedding, everything was very clean and evidence of a beloved dog dotted the home & property. There is a main house and two guest houses. The 'Library' is very close to the main house without a private bathroom and the sleeping loft is tricky to get to with a low ceiling. The other guest house was an exceptional space with a claw foot tub, mini kitchen and large bright bedroom looking out over a large deck with a view. The mini kitchen and tub are in the same room, but it feels spacious, light and private. The outdoor spaces really make this home exceptional. The main house has a large deck where we gathered and worked since we had great weather. There is an 8-person hot tub that we did not have a chance to use, but are planning to add a day to our 2017 retreat with some down time in mind. The tree swing by the outdoor fire pit added a playful escape. The kitchen is large and well stocked for wine indulgence. We cooked and made due with the electric stove and did have some smoke in the kitchen as the stove top does not have direct ventilation. Challenges for us were that the second bedroom in the main house is only accessible from a ladder from the main floor or by walking through the master bedroom. The master bedroom sits between those two bedrooms so 3 autonomous adults (main house and library) had to negotiate shower times. The 2 adults staying in the main house had to negotiate sleeping arrangements.
Yes, we plan to rent this home again. Lovely home on a beautiful site in a great location.
We rented this house for our wedding which took place in downtown Hudson. The bridal party stayed with us for the first 2 nights and then we had to property to ourselves for a week. Everything was very clean and the house and property were perfect. As per most other reviews we spent most of our time on the deck enjoying the view and quiet. It was close enough for us to run out grab what we needed, but far enough away that it felt like a little piece of paradise. It was an easy drive to Hudson and cab rides on the day of the wedding were very reasonable. Warren was easy to contact and responded quickly to any and all of my questions. There is no doubt in our minds that we will return to this house if you will have us!
My husband I rented this beautiful cottage so that we could have a reunion of our children, in-laws and grandchildren near our son and daughter-in-law who have just moved to Hudson. What perfect accommodations and a wonderful location. We were close to Hudson and to many wonderful sights in the Hudson River Valley. The children were able to find plenty to do on the grounds, building pretend forts, hiking up the hills, playing in the stream. The fire pit provided many hours of singing and s'mores. The deck was a favorite gathering place.
The kitchen was so well furnished- ideal for cooking. The grounds were beautiful- flowering bushes, beautiful trees and woods. You would hardly know there were any neighbors nearby with the exception of the 4-wheelers who were unfortunately located on the other side of the hill. We look forward to returning to Warren's beautiful country cottage.
My wife, myself and our boxer Jesse spent the month of August @ this beautifull location. The main house is not large, but comfortable & cozy. House size did not matter much as we spent all of our time on the deck with a breathtaking view of Gods creation. Hiking the grounds every day, loved following the stream that wraps the property. Deer, wild turkey chipmunks, has it all ! DO NOT rent in August (we want it every year !!!)
We spent the most wonderful long weekend at Warren's house upstate, very close to Hudson. The property, which comprises three separate buildings, was beautifully done, and incredibly comfortable. The grounds are also landscaped, with a lot of grass, and a delight for children to run around. Warren was also super nice to speak to, which made the stay even better. Was always available when we had questions and made sure the house was fully equipped and spotless when we arrived. We had a 7 week old and a 20 month old with us and chose to sleep in the converted guest house as we would all be on the same level with no stairs. There is a kitchenette, in addition to the bedroom/bathroom, which was perfect for us. The main house has a big kitchen (which you wouldn't know from the pictures), and a sunny dinning room and living room. There is also a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Because of the set up, it is great for families with children but also friends as the house effectively doubles as two. The third building houses a library/bedroom but no bath. We would definitely go back - it was a great stay.
My mom and I stayed at the Miller Road Stone House for our annual mother/daughter vacation. The house, with guest houses was more space than the two of us needed but we really enjoyed the sprawling property and it was perfect for my dog who had the time of her life on her first vacation with me.
The listing description was accurate, I think the house and property were better than the pictures depicted, they had everything we needed with nice extra touches of comfort and the owners were helpful in answering our questions leading up to our visit and sending us an email to make sure we settled in alright.
The house is unassuming from the front but opens up quite a bit at the back, is clean, very charming in its details, has a beautiful spacious deck with hot tub in the back and had everything we needed for our stay. While we did not use them, the guest houses looked quaint and comfortable and one looked to have been newly remodeled with nice finishings. The combination of the house and guest houses would be great for families or a group of friends to get together for a long weekend or week. The little touches (large deck, adirondack chairs, grill, hot tub, hammock, fire pit w/ wood pile, tiki torches, tree swing, etc.) the owners put into the house and property were excellent and made for fun and relaxing times. The property itself is large, beautifully maintained and quiet with a nice little creek running around it that you could hear from the bedroom window in the main house and on the deck. There were lots of deer and a short trail leading off the back of the property which led to beautiful sprawling views of the surrounding area. There was plenty of space for my dog to relax in the sun and shade, run and play frisbee without being near the road, without immediate neighbors or other dogs to worry about and without being out of view.
Because the house and property was so nice & comfortable we spent much of our time there. It is however very conveniently located for outings and is just a short drive to the center of the town of Hudson, flea markets, farm stands, hiking, etc. I hope to be able to stay here again sometime with friends or family and would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay in the Hudson area.
