This vintage four bedroom oceanfront cottage is set at a 30 foot elevation on Harpswell Harbor, down a private lane with horse meadow, brook, and orchard, on Harpswell Neck amongst historic (18th/19th century) white farmhouses. Private mooring available. There are fireworks over the water on July 4th weekend. The property offers 114 feet of private waterfront, a shale stone beach, 32' ocean porch. The view is out to Bailey's Island, the Cribstone bridge, moored boats, and the beach at Stover's Point Preserve. The lawn is level and lush and has a large free-standing hammock. The furnishings consist of mid-century modern pieces, Restoration Hardware items, and French antiques. The property has a fine collection of books--including a curated library of Maine authors and subjects--DVDs, board games, and lawn games. The cottage has WIFI and a flatscreen TV. The location is convenient for the beach at Stover's Point Preserve, the Dolphin Marina and other restaurants, hiking trails, Brunswick, Orr's/Bailey Island, Freeport (LL Bean) and outings to terrific beaches, such as Reid State Park or Popham Beach, Bowdoin College and its International Music Festival, Bath Maritime Museum and other outings. The Anchorage is a restorative place. * We regret to advise of a no pets policy *
We came to Harpswell to get married at Live Well Farm. As the groom, I couldn't stay at the farm and needed somewhere else to be. I could not have asked for better accommodations. Ronan was remarkable. He helped me make the timing and reservation work and was on site getting everything ready for us ahead of time. The listing is an incredibly charming maine cottage with some modern amenities like a rainshower head and amazing leather couch! The rooms were charming, the beds were comfortable, and the views were incredible.
We loved staying at the Anchorage! The cottage is beautiful, really embodies everything a Maine cottage should be--but with modern upgrades on all the right places. The kitchen is great to cook in, very well equipped. We made a number of great meals there. The shower is also a very nice upgrade, with a giant waterfall head. The furnishings are also very nice and comfortable, with a giant leather couch in the living room that is extremely comfortable for reading and visiting with family. We had great weather the whole week there, and never had to close the windows, just let the breeze blow through. The cottage is positioned above the water, but a nearby staircase gets you down to a nice private section of rocky beach with lots of rocks for kids who want to look for crabs. We would definitely stay at the Anchorage again!
When we arrived there was a thunderstorm and we briefly lost power. But then a beautiful rainbow appeared over Harpswell Sound viewed from the porch. This was the beginning of a wonderful week. The cottage was old-time Maine but with new comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. Two families with small children had a family reunion with grandmom and created some wonderful memories. The porch swing and hammock were used each day as well as a small kiddy pool. But every day brought a new trip to various spots on Harpswell Neck - Stover's Point Beach, Potts Point tidal pools, lobsters from Erica's, hiking at Curtis Point, and a visit to the farm for fresh eggs and animal petting. The setting was magnificent and offers a perfect place for those who truly want to get away.
At least once a week I find myself thinking about the view from that front porch. I spent a magical two weeks there this past July and hope to return again some time. The owner was very attentive and available even during a very busy time in his life.
This scenic, cottage getaway was exactly what I was looking for. Private and quiet, this rustic cottage has a wonderful, panoramic view of the harbor from the front porch. Inside, it is tastefully decorated and comfortable. The owners were fantastic about everything, making this rental a pleasant experience all-around. I would highly recommend it!
This is one of the nicest places I've stayed in Maine. The approach says it all. You drive down a long pastural road and at the end is this little paradise. It is a remarkably preserved antique cottage, masterfully decorated and comfortably appointed. I remember the peaceful mornings sitting out on the rear ocean facing porch, enjoying a cup of coffee.
It is very private but at the same time you are pretty close to some great restaurants such as Erica's where we enjoyed great lobster rolls. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and I hope to stay here again soon!
I'd never been to Maine before but had read and researched widely and was looking for an experience that measured up to my ideal notion of Maine. My expectations were exceeded. The location and setting is sublime, the house an authentic, functional cottage just the right size and the outlook over the front garden and the small bay picturesque. I swam thrice a day, ate the freshest lobsters and crabs at almost every meal, relaxed on the stoep and read Thoreau and immersed myself in the raw, visceral beauty that is rural Harspwell. A textbook perfect Maine visit. Thank you!
