Gary is a contractor and built our home and completed it in 2005. After our children were gone our friends encouraged us to get into the rental business to make use of our beautiful home. We have so enjoyed meeting families and groups from all over the world. Gary is still working and I am a retired teacher that still enjoys being around children and meeting new people.
We moved to the Black Hills 15 years ago from Iowa and have enjoyed the beauty and mild climate. The local people are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We chose to build on our property because of all the trees and beautiful views in every direction. It is very peaceful living in this area as the homes are all on 5-10 acre lots and private. The back patio is beautiful in the morning and a great place to visit and drink your coffee. The front porch has a swing to relax and unwind and enjoy the view and possibly see the deer sneak through at the right time of day.
This is a lovingly maintained home that was built by the owner. It is open, spacious, and well stocked for groups. It is out in the country, with beautiful stars at night that can be watched on the front porch swing or on the large back patio. It was delightful to come back to this home after a full day of activities in the Black Hills. We were visited by deer and wild turkey.
The owners live in a small home next door, and are ready to help however they can. The home is spotless, and well stocked with all necessities. The large dining room table only has six chairs, and there is a counter that can be used to eat on. Additional dining is available outdoors, as long as the weather permits. There is a large family room with fire place downstairs, and a nice TV room upstairs. Wifi connection is available. There are 3 1/2 baths downstairs and one upstairs.
The large master bedroom has a king size bed, which is raised and requires steps to get into. The adjoining master bath is large with a tub/shower combination. There are two to four beds in each of the other four bedrooms. The only complaint from two couples in our group was that the mattresses were much too hard, (bunkie boards instead of box springs) and the pillows were either too big or too small. These couples were not able to sleep as well as those in the master and other front bedroom. It would be nice if there were some memory foam toppers or at least eggshell toppers to soften the beds.
The property advertises an indoor "hot tub". We all brought our bathing suits since where we are from, a hot tub is typically outdoors, where several people can get in and socialize together. The "hot tub" in this house is actually large jacuzzi bathtub for bathing, not socializing. Two individuals took baths in it after they had been on a hike and said it was nice for soaking.
One note, guests are asked not to wear shoes on the gorgeous hardwood floors. Be sure to bring some slippers or flip flops if you don't like to walk in socks or bare feet.
I really wish I could give this home 4.8 stars. Because of the rock hard beds in the bunks and upstairs bedroom, I am not giving it 5 stars. However, 4 stars seems too low since the home is really very lovely. I highly recommend it for groups.
We had such a wonderful stay at this home in Hermosa!! The owners were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating and the house itself was amazing! The spacious layout is fantastic!!
While it is a bit of a drive from Rapid City, it is centrally located to the main sites, so the location ended up being very convenient for us.
We would definitely stay here again, and would recommend this property to friends and family.
Very impressive. Loved staying here for our gathering. Home is huge with privacy for everyone in your party. Quiet, clean and convenient to about anywhere you want to go. It's about 20 miles south of Rapid City, but we found that most things you want to do are closer to where this home is located than to Rapid City, so don't let the location stray you away.... far more convenient than staying in Rapid City.
We will definitely stay here for our next gathering! Just perfect! Really enjoyed seeing the deer in the yard too.
Thanks for everything!
This is an excellent home for an extended family reunion. Seventeen of us stayed at this home in Hermosa. Age range 63-2 yrs old. We stayed at the house for a week. The house has a great floor plan with plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms, with enough sleeping space for everyone. The homeowners were very nice people and very accomidating. We really enjoyed our stay. We were only 10-15 minutes from Keystone and 20-25 minutes from Rapid City. We enjoyed all the Black Hills had to offer, Mt. Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Custer Park, and the surrounding communities. We also took a day trip through Spearfish Canyon to Devils Tower. The trip to Devils Tower is only 2 hours, but we took all day to enjoy the towns along the way and back. The scenery was beautiful and well worth the trip!! I would highly recommend this property to friends and family. It is well situated to all the sites, the accomidations are great, and the scenery it beautiful.
We are located on 9 acres of pine trees with beautiful views of Harney Peak and Mt. Rushmore. We are 10 miles from Keystone which is where Mt. Rushmore is and 10 miles from Custer State Park. There are many activities in Custer State Park including hiking, fishing, swimming, driving tours, eating places, scenic byways to stop, buffalo and many other animals to see along the way. We are also close to Crazy Horse Monument, Bear Country and Reptile Gardens. We are 5 miles from Rushmore Cave on Hwy 40. Shopping and eating places are nearby in Keystone and Hill City for your enjoyment too.
