My two girlfriends and I spent a week at this wonderful condo. We really enjoyed the short walk to the Black Beach and watching the sunsets each night. The golf course was very close and the grounds were very well kept. We enjoyed making our meals at home each night and relaxing with new friends by the pool and BBQ. We were very central to different locations and easily assessed many different attractions including the volcano, Panalu, coffee groves, horseback riding and many many beautiful beaches. The condo was very clean and very well stocked with everything we needed to make our stay the best. Really enjoyed the roadside fruit/ veggie stands we were able to get resupplied. I would definitely go back . I even considered buying and working there ! Thanks so much Shannon (and Kim! )
Understand that you are renting from a private individual and not everything in the property will be like your home. I do not recommend Evolve because if you do have a problem like bugs or no internet (as advertised), Evolve will tell you there is nothing they can do. They only market and collect the money. They will not even give you the name and contact information for the owner so you can request reimbursement.
I loved this sanctuary, very close to the beach where I could do yoga at a quiet spot on the beach every morning during a beautiful sunrise! Shannon's lovely place was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the pool and hot tub were a fantastic relaxing ending to a great day exploring the beautiful island! Thank you Shannon for the best trip I have ever had. I look forward to visiting your beautiful place in the near future!
What a fantastic location for a quiet holiday away from the maddening crowd. The condo has a magnificent view of the ocean and is surrounded by well gromed gradens and grounds. We like to self-cater, so having a fully equipped kitchen was an added bonus. The condo is very clean and is of a suitable size for 2 persons. The location is excellent for exploring the island. Walking down to The Black beech every evening to watch the turtles sunning was a magical experience not to be missed. On route from Kona airport, we made a stop at Costco and got all our week's provisions, so we didn't need to waste time searching for grocery stores in the area.
We enjoyed our stay here but found the condo a little tired and needing some attention. This is not a one bedroom as advertised, but rather is a studio. There was no functioning smoke detector - a serious safety hazard. We eventually found a detector stuffed away in a cupboard, but even after buying and installing a battery, it still didn't work. The unit is located directly in back of the grilling area at the pool and privacy and noise at times were issues. The condo was very hot when we arrived - we turned on the one ceiling fan and opened the patio door as well as all the windows. The front door had a torn screen so was not a good option to keep open. An additional portable fan would have helped immensely to keep the condo cool. There was no exhaust fan over the stove so any cooking smoke accumulated in the room. The lights in the kitchen were quirky - you had to plug the one above the stove in to work (no on or off switch) and there was a little table lamp on the shelf behind the sink that we had to change a light bulb to get it to work. All the lights seemed to be unplugged when we arrived (lamp by the couch, above the beds) and the outlets were behind big pieces of furniture, so difficult to get to. The outlet behind the head of the bed is actually broken and potentially hazardous. The little dining table inside only had stools, of which one was broken. The patio table and chairs were great, and being able to sit outside to eat was a treat. We contacted the person whose name and number was listed on our reservation confirmation letter for any problems and were told to" contact the owner". We finally contacted Evolve Travel who took our complaints and stated they would "contact the owner". The only item fixed during our stay was the front door. We would consider staying at this complex again, but not this condo.
Being able to come to Hawaii and walk to Punaluu Black Sand Beach and stay in the beautiful Ka'u countryside is a great honor and privilege. So it seems ungrateful to make negative comments about this vacation rental, but I want to help other travelers set expectations. This is a very small space, more like a studio, but that was fine for just two of us. The Sea Mountain Resort is aging ("Old Hawaii") and this unit shows it. It feels like it could use a deep cleaning and fresh paint. When we arrived there was a wasp nest growing in the front doorjamb that we first had to contend with. It felt like the place hadn't been checked on in awhile. The ceiling fan didn't work so there was not good airflow through the space even though all the window vents were open, the Wi-Fi was too weak for a signal, and we turned on the hot water heater but the shower was still cold. Ka'u is a rural district and there are no close-by places to eat, so unless you want to drive a bit, just buy groceries before you get here. But the pool is great, the grounds are VERY well maintained, the people are friendly, and the morning sunrise, views and Punaluu beach are incredible.
