First time in Sarasota

  • 4 of 5

We were very surprised at the room here. It was room 3A which is the bottom right room in the building. Sure it was kind of small but it had everything we needed and was very clean. Tile floors got a little sandy so it would have been nice to have a broom in the closet. Bathroom was fine, plenty of hot water. The place was full for the holiday weekend but we never heard anyone at night, which is unusual in a place this small. And location was tremendous......short 5 min walk to Lido Beach and 10 minute walk to St. Armand's circle. We'll definitely be back.

Good

Location, Location, Location. This rental is within walking distance to the beach , restaurants and shops.

Lovely , quiet neighborhood. The room was smaller than I had anticipated , it's an older complex but it reminded me of hotel from my youth. What I call old Fliorida, before all the high rise hotel Tom over the beach. There is a microwave and a small frig. It was very clean, the bed was comfortable. Over all we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend staying, especially if you are on a budget. Not a good place if you have kids though.

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

The location, location, location is Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! The place is located in a great neighborhood-very safe and comfortable setting. The rooms were as described, very clean and had a fun beach feel to them. The owner-Dan-was very responsive to our emails and really helped us out with travel issues we had. Thank you so much for saving our vacation!

We will definitely come back to this location and hope to bring my kids and grandkids down. We really enjoyed the beach, the meals we ate in the circle and the shopping experience.

Cute, cozy, affordable, needs attention to details. This place could be great....

We booked the Lido Islander in the height of winter season. I have stayed on the island a number of times over the past ten years and was very aware of the lack of affordability in season. I went looking for a rental condo and the Islander seemed like a decent alternative. The VRBO billing is a bit confusing. The owner is this case appears to be the owner of what they are billing as "boutique inn" (which it is not). Initially, we were disappointed, but grew to be ok with the charm of the place over the time we stayed.

What's good:

Location...5-7 minutes walking to Lido Beach. Supreme sunsets, great beach.

Location...5-7 minutes walking to St. Armand's Circle. You can leave the car in the lot and not have to deal with the traffic circle and parking nightmare.

Neighborhood...lovely second homes. Safe, secure, blissfully quiet.

Space...we stayed in a one bedroom unit. Nice space for two people. Decorated in early beach cute.

Quiet...with the exception of some loud house mates the last evening, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Slept late, windows open at night with only the birds singing to us in the morning.

What's not so good:

The kitchen....furnished in early flea market/Grandma's garage sale. We enjoyed great wine in the matching tea cups, nary a wine glass in sight. Pots and pans were almost not safe for cooking...even boiling water. One dish towel (wash cloth size). No "left behinds" that are often found in owner rented condos (paper towels, salt, pepper, dish detergent). Even for a short trip, prepare as you would for camping....carry in, carry out. Anything left behind is most likely taken by the folks who clean the apartment when you leave.

The air conditioning....blasts away cold air and cannot be controlled. We shut one vent only to have the air blasting away in another place...including directly over the bed. And...there are no blankets to protect you from the cold air. We opened windows to balance things out. Probably made it worse, but seemed the only solution.

The bathroom...ugh. I was afraid to pick up the bathmat. Rust, early signs of mold on the edge of the tube. Again...prepare for camping. No fan, no ventilation, and the window crank is rusted and broken. Sauna. Think sauna.

Towels...yes, there is a cabinet for "extra" towels. Prepare for the cabinet being empty...with the exception of the raggedy pool and beach towels. If you need fluffy, bring them along.

So...we decided three stars is about right. Details.

GREAT location, decent place to stay.

  • 3 of 5

The best thing about this property is the location. It's walking distance to a beach and shopping/restaurants at St. Armand's circle. The rooms are small but totally fine - AC! Very thin walls. I will share that there were two holes in one of my towels, but the towel quality was pretty good, which is more important to me. There's parking if you have a car. Clean, small fridge and comfortable bed. No microwave.

I can't review the nearby beach or their beach supplies because I was using my grandmother's beach on longboat key. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay. I think the accommodations/experience is a good deal for the cost.
