About the property

2650 SQUARE FOOT House (spread out and relax), BEACH TOYS, AIR HOCKEY, FOOSBALL

A five minute walk to the Wianno Club on Seaview Ave, this four bedroom, three bath (mostly one level) home has been recently renovated (2014) with new furnishings, two new high-end bathrooms, and new french doors out to a new backyard Trek deck. Heavy duty teak table and chairs can easily accommodate twelve with extra chairs pulled up to table.

The galley kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a Subzero refrigerator, Thermador 5 burner gas cook top, commercial dishwasher, white cabinets, white corian counter tops and a pantry.

The living room has been completely redone with refinished hardwood floors and built-ins surrounding the fireplace. All new upholstered furniture makes this a very comfortable space in any season. The three panel glass french doors really open the room to the outdoors.

There is a separate eating area that seats eight to ten and looks out on the neighborhood and beautiful plantings in the front yard. This eating area also opens to a media space and step-down family room with walls of windows on three sides. The windows look out onto the green and lushly landscaped, private back yard, including the in-ground pool. Pool area is furnished with two round tables (seating for 9) and six chaise lounges. Pool toys available.

Three of the four bedrooms are on the opposite end of the house from the living areas so it is possible to nap during the day undisturbed. The entire house is WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE since it is basically all on one level (the step down family room is two steps down from the rest of the house but is open to the other rooms).

There is driveway parking as well as on-street parking and we have an assortment of five bicycles, two kayaks with life jackets & paddles provided, a John Deere wagon, a new ride-on toy for little ones, various pool/beach toys, beach blankets, and beach chairs.

For rainy days there is a garage game room with new, state-of-the-art air hockey table from Frontgate (with automatic score keeping and crowd cheering!) and a heavy duty foosball table. Cards, games, DVDs etc are provided.

Since owners are enthusiastic cooks and love to entertain, the kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, lobster pots and utensils, dishes, bowls, flatware, glasses etc. All linens are included. No need to bring extras unless you have very specialized needs or baby equipment (we provide a beautiful new, full size crib, two baby gates, baby monitor and a youth chair to pull up to the table).

****All rooms are kept very comfortable with central air conditioning, provided by a Fujitsu mini-split ductless air conditioning system. It is new, virtually silent, and very efficient, bringing the temperature to a comfortable level in minutes. Owner's family business specializes in the installation and maintenance of these systems so the units are kept in great working order at all times.

About Deirdre Lane

My husband and I grew up in the Boston area and went to the same college in Chestnut Hill. We met through mutual friends and were married soon after. We now live full time in a suburb of Boston. Osterville is a safe, peaceful, and rejuvenating retreat from the craziness of our every day lives. I am sure you will love it as much as we do!

Why Deirdre Lane chose Osterville

This property is very special to us because it is where my husband vacationed with his parents and siblings growing up. They spent several weeks each summer renting cottages with their aunts, uncles and cousins and eventually bought this house because of its beautiful lot and perfect location, steps to the beach and a short walk to the village. We have been lucky enough to keep it in the family, so our children have grown up vacationing here as well. We spend less time here now that they are grown and working full time. We recently did some renovations and would like to do more in future.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location! We are just behind Wianno Ave and steps from Seaview of the most exclusive areas of Osterville. Once you get here, it is possible to spend long stretches of time not needing to drive a car. All kinds of fun is within a short walk, jog or bike ride but the neighborhood itself is very quiet. If you need to nap and recharge, there is no traffic noise. The backyard is enclosed by a tall wooden fence for privacy and is planted with flowering trees, bushes and flowers. There is an in-ground, heated pool as well which, even though not necessary because of the close proximity of the beach, is a real treat. A pool maintenance company comes once a week to clean and maintain the pool.

This has been our family get away for years and we love it very much. We are happy to share it now with others and hope that you will enjoy it and appreciate family time spent here making great memories. There is no real need for a pool since we are so close to the beach but it is very nice to have, especially with babies, when the sun is too strong at the ocean. Partial shade in the yard is welcoming on hot days.

Beautiful home and excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a weekend for a small sibling reunion- twin sisters (age 69), brother (79) and another sister (85) and two spouses. Plenty of room for the six of us. Four of the family have some mobility issues so the one floor living was perfect. Beautifully landscaped and a good sized pool although we did not use the pool- too cool in late September.

Deirdre was very responsive in answering any questions we had.

Owner's Response: We are so happy to hear that you all had a wonderful time together at our home! Sometimes I think the best family vacations are those where everyone can spend extended time together and talk and talk and talk. Osterville is a quiet and beautiful little village with restaurants and pretty little shops all within walking distance of the house. The beach, the harbor and countless sea views are all around us as well. We love to stay there during every season. Thank you for your kind review. Deirdre

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, roomy home. The pool was such a plus. We had the owner heat it for an extra charge so our Irish company could enjoy it. Everything you need is in the home. The owner, Deirdre, was very responsive and helpful. Location is beautiful and everything is a short car drive or a long walk away.

Feels like you're at home.

The home has everything you would need. No need to bring anything, which helps when going on vacation with children. The owner goes out of her way to help in any way that she can.

Great property - exactly as it was advertised.

  • 5 of 5

The home we rented couldn't have been better for our family of 9.

House layout was great, rooms were comfortable

(we especially liked our ability to control individual room temperatures as we each liked!), amenities provided for our use were extensive

and fun - (especially the heated pool!), and the house location was perfect; in a quiet, safe neighborhood and very convenient to the beach!

We enjoyed our time here very much.

Warm & wonderful home... Fun for the whole family!

  • 5 of 5

Our week in Osterville will be a treasured memory for many years for all members of our family. The house is obviously loved by its owners and we appreciate their sharing it with us. We spent many hours outside - enjoying breakfast at the teak table on the patio, playing KanJam in the rear yard, preparing BBQ at the grill, and most especially enjoying the fabulous "extra" - the pool. The grounds are beautifully landscaped around the entire property with many varieties of shrubs and flowering bushes that provide a range of color and texture as well as privacy.

We loved the easy walk/ ride to Dowses beach, a great family beach where we spent lots of time in the warm water, collecting shells, sunning (with SPF of course!) and enjoying the perfect weather we were lucky enough to have for the whole week. Our family really enjoyed exploring the bay area in the two kayaks provided and we were happy to have use of the bikes provided also.

At night, the home was comfortable for dinner in the large dining area and for gathering in the family room to cheer on the Red Sox on the large TV (even thought we had several Yankees fans with us!) Air hockey competition was also evident at the game tables in the garage.

Deirdre was an extremely gracious and responsive host, answering all our needs and questions fully and immediately. Thank you Deirdre and Chris for our fabulous week at Wianno Escape!

Owner's Response: Thank you Joan for your kind words. We always try to do our best for our guests. Glad to hear that everyone was happy with their week. I love the kayaks too and if you go upriver from that sheltered bay area the bird life is so beautiful (especially in the early morning). My family and I are finally getting our time at our place this summer and they are "chomping at the bit"!

Our cute, little village has all of the essentials (no need to ever leave!) ...homemade ice cream at Gone Chocolate, out-of-this- world thin crust, gourmet pizza at Crisp Flatbread Pizza (with outside seating and a fire pit to roast marshmallows and an outdoor pink pong table for the kids), a harbor side restaurant/bar to watch stunning sunsets (the Chart House at Crosby's Boatyard), a new town library, many assorted boutiques on Main Street, a Mobil gas station and Fancy's Gourmet Food Market.

Our home is in the exclusive area known as Wianno. We are within a few minutes walk to beaches, churches, the library, restaurants and the village shopping. You can park your car, hang up your keys and enjoy all amenities by bike or by foot.

For boat lovers, Osterville has three harbors, East Bay, North Bay and West Bay, all with public access. Short-term docking is often available with reservations at Crosby's Boat Yard and Prince Cove.

For the angler in the family, there are many fishing areas including the fishing pier at Dowses Beach. In addition, there are designated areas for shell fishing and crabbing (permit required). Sport fishing charters leave from the Ocean Street docks in Hyannis daily for half day and full day trips. Striped bass, tuna, and blue fish are favorites.

Osterville is a beach lover's paradise. We are a small village in the larger town of Barnstable and our beach pass allows our guests access to Dowse's beach, Craigville Beach, Jonathan's Pond, Hathaway's Pond, Veteran's Beach, Sea Street Beach, Kalmus Beach and Sandy Neck. All of these beaches have bath house facilites, parking, lifeguards and food.

Golfing enthusiasts will find many choices within a 20 minute drive. Some of the notable public golf courses include the Cape Cod Country Club, Olde Barnstable Golf Club, Hyannis Golf Club, Paul Harney Golf Club, Cotuit Highground, Ballymeade Country Club, and Quashnet Valley. The private Wianno Club course is on West Street, steps from our home.

Shoppers in the family will also be kept very busy. In addition to what is available in the village of Osterville, Mashpee Commons (15 minutes by car) is a wonderful destination on its own. It was built in the style of historic Cape Cod and it's a clean and friendly place to wander in search of something special. Small unique stores selling Cape Cod inspired goods, a fresh juice bar, assorted restaurants, and a movie theater are mixed with some high-end chain stores like Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn.

Main Street Hyannis is ten to fifteen minutes from our home in the opposite direction. It has been a major destination for many vacationers for years and has some great shopping and restaurants as well as the John F. Kennedy Museum. If that is not enough, on weekends from late May to mid-June, and daily from mid-June through September there are always the seven Artist Shanties on Hyannis Harbor. If so inclined, people can watch the artists at work and buy directly from them.

In our opinion, no summer can be complete without a trip to Nantucket, at least for the day. The ferry trip is an event in itself and helps to calm even the crankiest among us. If there is enough time, we get up early and get ourselves over to the Steamship Authority in Hyannis for the first boat of the day. That leaves us time to take the slow boat over (costs less than the high speed ferry), enjoy being out on the ocean and then have hours and hours to explore downtown Nantucket or maybe rent bicycles and go to the beach, still having time to eat a nice dinner and take one of the last boats off island that day. Martha's Vineyard is nice as well but is much larger so it would be smart to allow yourself a few days there to really see things.
