|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
A five minute walk to the Wianno Club on Seaview Ave, this four bedroom, three bath (mostly one level) home has been recently renovated (2014) with new furnishings, two new high-end bathrooms, and new french doors out to a new backyard Trek deck. Heavy duty teak table and chairs can easily accommodate twelve with extra chairs pulled up to table.
The galley kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a subzero refrigerator, Thermador 5 burner gas cook top, commercial dishwasher, white cabinets, white corian counter tops and a pantry.
The living room has been completely redone with refinished hardwood floors and new built-ins surrounding the fireplace. All new upholstered furniture makes this a very comfortable space in any season. The three panel glass french doors really open the room to the outdoors.
There is a separate eating area that seats eight to ten and looks out on the neighborhood and beautiful plantings in the front yard. A step-down family room with walls of windows on three sides looks out onto the green and lushly landscaped, private back yard including the in ground pool. Pool is furnished with two round tables (with seating for 9) and six chaise lounges. Plenty of pool toys are available in the pool shed.
Three bedrooms are on the opposite end of the house from the living areas so it is possible to nap during the day undisturbed. The fourth bedroom is closer to the main living areas. The entire house is WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE since it is basically all on one level (the step down family room is two steps down from the rest of the house but is open to the other rooms).
There is driveway parking as well as on-street parking and we have an assortment of five bicycles, two sea kayaks, a John Deere wagon, a new ride-on toy for little ones, various pool/beach toys, beach blankets, and beach chairs.
For rainy days there is a game room with new, state-of-the-art air hockey table from Frontgate (with automatic score keeping and crowd cheering!) and a heavy duty foosball table. Cards, games, two DVDs etc are provided.
Since owners are gourmet cooks and love to entertain, the kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, lobster pots and utensils, dishes, bowls, flatware, glasses etc. All linens are included. No need to bring extras unless you have very specialized needs or baby equipment (we provide a beautiful new crib, two baby gates and a youth chair to pull up to the table).
****All rooms are kept very comfortable by central air conditioning, provided by a Fujitsu mini split ductless air conditioning system. It is new, virtually silent, and very efficient, bringing the temperature to a comfortable level in minutes. Owner's family business specializes in the installation and maintenance of these systems so the units are kept in great working order at all times.
My husband and I grew up in the Boston area and went to the same college in Chestnut Hill. We met through mutual friends and were married soon after. We now live full time in a suburb of Boston. Osterville is a safe, peaceful, and rejuvenating retreat from the craziness of our every day lives. I am sure you will love it as much as we do!
This property is very special to us because it is where my husband vacationed with his parents and siblings growing up. They spent several weeks each summer renting cottages with their aunts, uncles and cousins and eventually bought this house because of its beautiful lot and perfect location, steps to the beach and a short walk to the village. We have been lucky enough to keep it in the family, so our children have grown up vacationing here as well. We spend less time here now that they are grown and working full time. We recently did some renovations and would like to do more in future.
Location, location, location! We are just behind Wianno Ave...one of the most exclusive areas of Osterville. Once you get here, it is possible to spend long stretches of time not needing to drive a car. All kinds of fun is within a short walk, jog or bike ride but the neighborhood itself is very quiet. If you need to nap and recharge, there is no traffic noise. The backyard is enclosed by a tall wooden fence for privacy and is planted with flowering trees, bushes and flowers. There is an in-ground, heated pool as well which, even though not necessary because of the close proximity of the beach, is a real treat. A pool maintenance company comes once a week to clean and maintain the pool.
We stayed at "Wianno Escape", VRBO's Osterville-Wianno 4 Bed / 3 Bath offering for a few nights this month, and could not have been happier with it. We specifically chose it because it had 3 baths and we were three couples, and the price was right.
The house is a large, sprawling ranch house with many large rooms, a huge deck with large teak table that would probably comfortably seat 10. There is beautiful landscaping, a lovely pool, an outdoor shower (with HOT WATER too!). It is in an area of pretty upscale homes, and the area is very quiet (read: silent at night). It is a very comfortable walk to Dowses Beach where we spent a couple of days (we were blessed with fabulous weather while we there). The owners have almost anything you would want; we even found Dramamine which I wanted to be able to take prior to our Whale Watch trip (which we did out of P-town on Dolphin Fleet, and I highly recommend them too). The only addition I would request, and it is a very minor one, is that they provide more detailed instructions on the dishwasher, which is a commercial model. The instructions are on the front of the machine, but I believe they are incomplete (we could not figure out the racks and where to put the detergent). We did not do a whole lot of cooking at home, so it was not an issue to do most of the washing by hand. There are laundry machines too, which was great. They even have everything you would want to have a "lobster steam" at home.
It was a great facility and location, and we very much hope to have a reason to go back and stay there again. Thanks, Deirdre!!!
We had a wonderful stay in Osterville. My brother and his family flew in from Colorado and it was their first experience on Cape Cod. Everyone loved the home. The kids spent countless hours in the pool and the beach was a convenient drive or bike ride away.
This house has excellent gathering space for larger groups. We enjoyed watching the Olympics in the large TV room in the evenings or reading quietly in the nearby sitting room. The back deck/patio were fabulous for morning coffee and the gardens and shaded seating in the pool area were perfect for keeping an eye on the kids.
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!
I have absolutely no complaints and only compliments about our stay. We actually ended up staying at the home more than we anticipated given all of the amenities including the big things and small things. I'm going to try to concentrate on things that are not mentioned in the description.
The private beach is literally just down the road, and it is a great beach -- all sand, no rocks, and no seaweed. It's an easy walk, or there is a parking pass, or you can take one of the 5 bikes. Speaking of getting to places, the same goes for Osterville Village. It's just down the road and again you could walk, take a bike, or park in town. Osterville is very charming and has great restaurants and an ice cream shop.
The home is in a quiet neighborhood, and the yard is spectacular. It's a very relaxing, serene environment. The back yard is much larger than it appears in the pictures. There was plenty of room to play yard games (all provided) both in front of and behind the pool. While there is a privacy fence, it is naturally private with foliage which seamlessly merges with the fence. The pool was great, and it is decent in size and has a shallow end and a deep end. There was plenty of seating and pool toys/accessories. We spent a lot of time around (or in) the pool. There is shade somewhere around the pool when you need it. It was in the mid- to upper-70s outdoors during our stay, and the pool remained at a decent temperature. The outdoor shower is heated, and if you close the blinds in the family room, is private.
The inside of the home is tastefully decorated and is a comfortable and relaxing environment. One of our family members was in a wheelchair, and there was only one room that she could not enter unassisted. I feel that the inside is well-represented by the description and photos, so I won't go into too much detail.
The owner was great to deal with and is a very nice person. She contacted us during our stay to ensure that everything was up to par.
Some random thoughts: get ready for some air hockey as playing on the full-size table quickly becomes addictive even if you've never played, and ask the owner before you bring something that is not listed in the description -- they probably have it.
I hope to stay here again next summer.
The house was very clean and well-equipped. It is beautifully landscaped and in a great location. We enjoyed the pool and the beach. We really appreciated having the linens and towels included. We had a wonderful week!
With family and friends we got to share the convenience, amenities and beauty of this great house. It was perfect for our family of six,( including two children), who used the pool daily. Th neighborhood was quiet, the house well appointed, and the landlord as thoughtful, gracious and kind as can be. I highly recommend this terrific find in Osterville. We certainly have it on our short list for future visits.
It was a pleasure to vacation at this lovely home. It is well taken care of and filled with lovely mementos from the family. It is comfortable and well stocked -- even Band-Aids and aspirin.
The kids loved the pool - although paying extra to heat it is expensive it was worth it for our family. Lots of games and toys to play with if you are bored and you are only steps to the beach. We had a lovely time.
The dishwasher is difficult to use - so read directions on the bottom of the unit carefully - otherwise all was well with our stay.
The owner takes complete inventory of the home contents so be careful to put things back where they belong - we relocated a basket and a blanket and I thought we were going to be charged for them until the housekeeping staff found them. I had thought we were very careful but with 6 adults and 4 kids - things do get moved around.
Enjoy your stay at a lovely home --- we would go back again.
Our cute, little village has all of the essentials (no need to ever leave!) ...homemade ice cream at Gone Chocolate, out-of-this- world thin crust gourmet pizza at Crisp Flatbread Pizza with outside seating and a firepit to roast marshmallows and an outdoor pink pong table for the kids, a harborside restaurant/bar to watch stunning sunsets (the Islander at Crosby's Boatyard), a new town library, many assorted boutiques on Main Street, a Mobil gas station and Fancy's Gourmet Food Market.
Our home is in the exclusive area known as Wianno. We are within a few minutes walk to beaches, churches, the library, restaurants and the village shopping. You can park your car, hang up your keys and enjoy all amenities by bike or by foot.
For boat lovers, Osterville has three harbors, East Bay, North Bay and West Bay, all with public access. Short-term docking is often available with reservations at Crosby's Boat Yard and Prince Cove.
For the angler in the family, there are many fishing areas including the fishing pier at Dowses Beach. In addition, there are designated areas for shell fishing and crabbing (permit required). Sport fishing charters leave from the Ocean Street docks in Hyannis daily for half day and full day trips. Striped bass, tuna, and blue fish are favorites.
Osterville is a beach lover's paradise. We are a small village in the larger town of Barnstable and our beach pass allows our guests access to Dowse's beach, Craigville Beach, Jonathan's Pond, Hathaway's Pond, Veteran's Beach, Sea Street Beach, Kalmus Beach and Sandy Neck. All of these beaches have bath house facilites, parking, lifeguards and food.
Golfing enthusiasts will find many choices within a 20 minute drive. Some of the notable public golf courses include the Cape Cod Country Club, Olde Barnstable Golf Club, Hyannis Golf Club, Paul Harney Golf Club, Cotuit Highground, Ballymeade Country Club, and Quashnet Valley. The private Wianno Club course is on West Street, steps from our home.
Shoppers in the family will also be kept very busy. In addition to what is available in the village of Osterville, Mashpee Commons (15 minutes by car) is a wonderful destination on its own. It was built in the style of historic Cape Cod and it's a clean and friendly place to wander in search of something special. Small unique stores selling Cape Cod inspired goods, a fresh juice bar, assorted restaurants, and a movie theater are mixed with some high-end chain stores like Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn.
Main Street Hyannis is ten to fifteen minutes from our home in the opposite direction. It has been a major destination for many vacationers for years and has some great shopping and restaurants as well as the John F. Kennedy Museum. If that is not enough, on weekends from late May to mid-June, and daily from mid-June through September there are always the seven Artist Shanties on Hyannis Harbor. If so inclined, people can watch the artists at work and buy directly from them.
In our opinion, no summer can be complete without a trip to Nantucket, at least for the day. The ferry trip is an event in itself and helps to calm even the crankiest among us. If there is enough time, we get up early and get ourselves over to the Steamship Authority in Hyannis for the first boat of the day. That leaves us time to take the slow boat over (costs less than the high speed ferry), enjoy being out on the ocean and then have hours and hours to explore downtown Nantucket or maybe rent bicycles and go to the beach, still having time to eat a nice dinner and take one of the last boats off island that day. Martha's Vineyard is nice as well but is much larger so it would be smart to allow yourself a few days there to really see things.
