Overview

About the property

Condo, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-6)

Situated in the best possible location on the Swiss Riviera at the border of Montreux & Clarens, 150 meters/yards from the Jazz Festival, Stravinski Auditorium, Miles Davis Hall, Park Vernex & the Conference Center, this light and bright apartment, on the 4th floor of a turn-of-the-century building with elevator, and with an onsite parking space, has beautiful panoramic views of Lake Geneva & the mountains from its large French doors & expansive balcony. There are spectacular sunsets year round. The Swiss Riviera is noted for its unique microclimate that allows for palm trees, banana trees, tropical vegetation & year-round flowers with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. It’s world-famous for the Montreux Jazz Festival which takes place the first half of July, music festivals & its Christmas Market.

Situated on the Rue du Lac, restaurants, shops & the “Promenade Fleuri,” the flower-lined lakeside promenade, are only steps away. It is as close as you can get to the Montreux Jazz Festival a 2-minute walk. The 'Vernex-Jazz Festival' bus stop is 100 steps away & is THE bus stop for the Jazz Festival with Stravinsky Auditorium, Miles Davis Hall, Park Vernex & the Conference Center about 150 meters/yards away. There are boat stops a few hundred yards away in either direction in Montreux & Clarens from which you can take historic “Belle Epoque” lake steamers to various charming ports in both Switzerland & France.

A stay here comes with a bonus of Montreux Riviera Cards that entitle you to unlimited free local bus, train & funicular transport & half-price for some tourist trains & funiculars to the mountains, boats, museums & castles in the area including the famous Chateau de Chillon,..

Visit the famous Chateau de Chillon, go wine-tasting in the Lavaux, or make day trips to the mountains for sightseeing in Gruyeres, skiing in Gstaad or Verbier or ballooning in Chateaux d’Oex. Cruise Lake Geneva on historic turn-of-the-century lake steamers & visit charming Swiss lakeside villages or visit St. Gingolph or the charming Medieval village of Yvoire on the French side of the lake. In the summer, sailboats, rowboats or paddleboats can be rented. There are several free public beaches in Montreux & Clarens for swimming, ping-pong, volleyball, etc. Children will enjoy the Aquaparc waterpark in Le Bouveret. Children of any age will enjoy the historic carousel lakeside in Vevey & the miniature train that runs along the “Promenade Fleuri” in Montreux in the summer.

The Chateau de Chillon is right in Montreux in a dramatic setting on the lake. A stunning way to arrive is by lake steamer. If you haven’t seen the movie “Daisy Miller” set at the turn-of-the-century in Vevey & Montreux, it’s worth renting to preview the beautiful “Belle Epoque” buildings, lake steamers, & the Chateau de Chillon, which are still much as they were at the turn-of-the-century & why this movie was filmed on location. This apartment is in one of those beautiful “Belle Epoque” buildings with high ceilings & ornate balconies. Vevey & Montreux were home to Charlie Chaplin. Vladimir Nabokov, Hemmingway. Lord Byron's “The Prisoner of Chillon” made the castle a tourist attraction starting in 1816 & you can see his name carved in one of the stone pillars in the dungeon.

Among my favorite museums to visit in the area are the Maison Visinand & the Museum of Old Montreux in the Vielle Ville (old-town) Montreux, the Museum of Games in La Tour-de-Peilz, the Jenisch Museum, Photo Museum, History Museum, Wine Museum & Alimentarium (a museum about food in the home of Nestle) in Vevey, the Musee de l’Art Brut (Jean Dubuffet’s museum of “outsider art”), Hermitage and Olympic Museums in Lausanne, & the Fondation Gianadda with its antique car collection, outdoor sculpture park, Roman amphitheatre & world-class art exhibitions in Martigny. There are wonderful art galleries, festivals & fairs for art & antiques in the area. There is a weekly farmer’s market in Montreux on Friday mornings & in Vevey on Saturday mornings.

From Geneva Airport, which is conveniently adjacent to the train station, it’s about 1 hour by direct train or 45 minutes by car to Montreux. The Montreux train station is a 5-10 minute walk, 2-minute taxi ride, or 3-minutes by bus to the second bus stop away. If driving, the Autoroute access is very conveniently located only a couple of miles away (3 km) & there is an onsite, off-street parking space available.

The apartment itself has high ceilings & is very bright and airy. It is beautifully furnished & outfitted with everything needed for a pleasant stay of any length including high speed wi-fi, 40' Samsung flat-screen pivot-mounted cable tv with 100+ channels in several languages including 4 English channels & music channels.

The bedroom area has just been upgraded with a brand new queen-size bed, new nightstands, 2 reading lamps per side, and top-of-the-line very comfortable memory foam mattress. From bed, there is a view out the French doors to the mountains and lake. For additional guests, there is a sofa that with cushions removed is a single bed or which can be folded open to be a king-size bed. There is also a chair that folds out into another single bed. And, there is a rollaway folding single bed with a very good mattress hidden in a cabinet. So, the apartment can sleep up to 6 people but reminder that it doesn't have a separate bedroom so it works best for a couple plus children and not ideal for 6 singles.

The bathroom has a large deep tub and a great shower with unlimited hot water. There is a hallway with a coat and hat rack and an armoire outfitted with various drawers and shelves as well as space to hang clothes. There is an iron and ironing board and a hairdryer, multi-plugs to charge electronic devices, and a hotel combination safe.

The kitchen, although compact, is a full kitchen with 4-burner gas range and oven, refrigerator with a small freezer, microwave, and various small appliances including American and European coffeemakers, electric kettle & toaster. There are brand new pots and pans and more than ample dishes and bowls, serving pieces, stainless, placemats, coasters, etc.

Cleaning supplies are in the apartment for your use during your stay, or if you prefer, maid service can be arranged during your stay for an additional fee. Bed linens, bath towels, kitchen towels, laundry detergent, soaps, shampoo, conditioner are provided. There is there is a shared laundry room in the building.

Why Dotti chose Lake Geneva

Europe is my favorite place to visit and Montreux is so centrally-located and easy to get to by public transportation or by car. It's so easy to fly into Geneva Airport which is relatively small and so civilized to have the train station attached to the airport and only 1 hour to Montreux. From Montreux, I can take a direct train to Lake Maggiore Italy in only 2 hours, Milan 2 1/2 hours, Venice 6 hours. Or, nearby Lausanne to Paris with TGV in 4 hours direct. Also, EasyJet with inexpensive flights all over Europe flies from Geneva. The apartment itself is in such a beautiful location with incomparable views that, as a photographer, I spend hours on the balcony photographing the changing light on the lake, the Belle Epoque lake steamers going by, and the spectacular sunsets and I never get tired of this. It's a wonderful place to just relax and enjoy.

What makes this condo unique

I love the convenience of the location. I frequently walk along the lakeside promenade to go to the farmer's market or grocery shopping and then come back by bus. The public transportation is so good that, although I have a car, I often just take the bus or train to Vevey, Lausanne or Geneva, and sometimes take the lake steamers even short distances because I enjoy them so much. I love the little bakeries and tea rooms and restaurants and especially the chocolates at the elegant Confiserie Zurcher. As an artist myself, I find the museums and galleries excellent and inspiring. The special bonus for staying in my apartment is the Montreux Riviera Card that will give you free bus travel and reduced rates for tourist trains, boats, funiculars and museums in the area for all guests for the length of your stay or 2 weeks, whichever is less.

Beautiful Location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Dotti's apartment four nights. The location was great and the view of Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains was breathtaking from this fourth floor apartment! There is an elevator which was very helpful. We ate several of our meals out on the balcony enjoying the view. The kitchen was well-stocked and we had everything we needed. The apartment was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was convenient to have our own parking space and it was nice to have a car to drive to places outside Montreux, but we didn't need one in town. There was a lot to do within walking distance and the bus stops were close by. We loved the promenade along the lake and walked along it several times. Dotti's emails before our trip were so informative - from how to use things in the apartment, to where to eat, and to what to do - that we felt very prepared. The Chateau du Chillon is a must! We toured the castle then had dinner in the courtyard of kettle-cooked soup and grilled bratwurst which you cooked yourself over an open fire with strolling minstrels playing medieval tunes! The Riviera Tour Cruise is also a must! Both of which we saved a lot of money by getting the Montreux Riviera Pass through Dotti! It is a studio apartment, so don't expect a lot of space, but it was quite comfortable for the two of us. We would definitely recommend this apartment!

Not as expected

  • 1 of 5

When we arrived at this apartment we found it to be in a very dirty condition with hair from previous guests on the kitchen table cloth and in the bathroom. We had to wash all the crockery and cutlery and only one teatowel was supplied. Two wine glasses were cracked. The kitchen pot mitts were so dirty they were stiff with food. All the placemats were too dirty to use and there were empty wipe bags in the bathroom from previous guests. There was also toothpaste on the mirror. Some lights in the apartment did not work so it was very dull. The lounge in the apartment is just a single bed mattress with a foam backing that is not attached so falls off when you lean back therefore making the lounge extremely uncomfortable. There was nowhere for us to put anything as all available storage space was taken up with the owners supplies. When we were there it was difficult to use the washing machine as our allocated machine was broken and we were not there on the owners allocated day for washing.

We wrote to the owner, who I gather is in America, and she was apologetic and said that she would send around some clean linen and light globes. But it never arrived. Dotti also said that she would refund our cleaning fee but we have not received this. Overall the apartment is definitely not good value for money and we were pleased to leave.

Owner's Response: Comments from guests are taken seriously. I have replaced the sofabed with 2 sectional single sections with lots of cushions and pillows so they are very comfortable. I have replaced all the lightbulbs with brighter LED lightbulbs so now the apartment can be superbright if guests want it superbright. Note: there are ceiling lights in the entry hall, with the ceiling fan in the middle of the living room, and a new light fixture hanging above the dining table. There are 2 floor lamps, one in the corner of the dining area and one next to the desk with uplights that reflect off the ceiling and task lights that can be directed. There is an additional lamp on the desk. There are 2 lights on each nightstand - one is a conventional lamp with a lampshade and one is a clip-on LED reading light. There is under-cabinet task lighting in the kitchen. The bathroom has a fixture with 4 bulbs that can be directed any way the user wishes. There is lots and lots of light if visitors choose to turn them on. We did keep the vacuum cleaner in the bottom of the closet, but have now put it in a garden box on the balcony so the closet is totally empty for visitors. One shelf in the armoire is filled with toilet paper and paper towels and extra cleaning supplies, but that is only one shelf. There is another shelf and many drawers that are empty for guests to use. Guests would have to be traveling with a huge amount of baggage to be able to fill all the space in the closet and armoire. The laundry room is shared by everyone in the building and a washing machine being broken is out of the range of what I can control. If guests read the info I send, which these guests obviously didn't, they would have seen my instructions for using the laundry room at different times other than the assigned, reserved day. There are also spares of pretty much everything if the guests read my info and looked. There are spare placemats, oven mits, potholders and kitchen towels. I don't know if glasses crack unless guests tell me that they cracked a glass. I don't charge guests for replacements and keep a supply and spare glasses and dishes on hand as replacements as accidents do happen. As you can see from other reviews, 99% of my guests report that the apartment was spotlessly clean when they arrived. When I told my housekeeper what these guests said, she was afraid to go into the apartment as she thought these guests might accuse her of stealing something so she refused to go.

Wonderful stay in Montreux.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed two nights in Montreux with our two boys 12&15. The apartment was perfectly located with stunning views of Lac Leman (lake Geneva) and the Alps. Easy access to just about everywhere. In the three days we were there, it was super easy for us to walk to and from the train station (even with three huge pieces of luggage), walk to and from Chillon Castle along the gorgeous promenade. Also easy (seriously!) access to bus and train to vevey as well as the vevey funicular to mont pillon (a must do!). We also went up to Rocher de Naye (another must do!) for gorgeous alp views. The cog rail ride up and down was itself an unforgettable experience. Again a quick 15 minute walk to the lovely train station. Lots of wonderful dining and exploring options on the lake, Old Town and in Vevey. Dotti could not have been more welcoming as she answered my countless questions before our trip, provided us with Montreux Passes (free local public transportation and half off to museums and alp/boat transportation), and all the information needed to have a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Her apartment was quiet, super clean, wonderfully decorated and filled with all the amentities a family, solo traveler or couple needs. We even took advantage of the laundry machine on floor -1 one early morning which I'm always grateful for. Dotti provides the detergent and the machine fees. Highly recommend her apartment! We will be back.

Lovely flat in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

Me and my girlfriend stayed at Dotti's flat in the middle of February 2017, we absolutely loved our stay. The flat was big, warm, open and very clean.

The flat was very easy to find from Montreux train station. We also used the Rivera cars which Dotti provided, which allows you to use all the local buses. The bus stop to the flat was very close. The buses are very regular.

The flat was also walking distance to Montreux town and all the restaurants and shops.

Dotti the owner couldn't have been more helpful through email, she was very informative and responsive when ever I asked any questions.

I would definitely recommend dotti's flat and Montreux.
