About the property

5 -6 bedrooms, Pool, Courtyard, Centrally located

A renewed old mexican villa that dates from the 19th century. The house is an architectural jewel that won first place for renovation in the entire city of Guadalajara 2015.

The price is for entire property, exclusive use, 5 bedrooms, each with large, private bath.

This a unique residence featuring spacious guest rooms with modern elements that provide a feeling of hip and chic to comfortably elegant.

Extensive renovations have been made to plumbing and electrical along with new, private bathrooms containing granite counter tops. Originally everything was built around the center courtyard and that's how it appears today, providing an interior view you have unlikely seen in any other house. Palacete is one of Guadalajara's premier residences, recognized with an historical plaque on the outside sidewalk for its stunning architecture.

The neighborhood is blue collar with repair shops but very much alive and once inside the house, it is quiet and peaceful. Just relax after your daily adventures and enjoy the pool or a cocktail. The property has five available bedrooms each with private, modern baths, a beautiful kitchen, and of course, the pool. Even if you are traveling with a group, the entire house is also available for rentals offers enough space, ranging from the separated kitchen to the dining area, courtyard, and backyard with pool.

My partner was born in the city and i have lived since late 2008. Our goal is to provide as much expertise about the city that you will need.

Palacete is located near downtown and other areas such as chapultepec where you will find nightlife and restaurants ranging from high-energy to more relaxed. There is a taxi stand just around the corner from the house, just in front of the mexicaltzingo church, and parking options if you choose to rent a car.

If you are not familiar with the city, you will find that it has a young and vibrant feeling where you can meet interesting locals and foreigners that will show you a warm smile, making your stay in guadalajara a cultural event.

The climate is typically spring-like, never humid, but almost always sunny. If you live in mexico or just visiting, the villa will offer a safe and authentic experience.

About Rob Meehan

Felipe and Rob reside in Mexico's 2nd largest city, Guadalajara, driving distance from Puerto Vallarta . Felipe graduated from law school in Mexico, worked at translating documents, and quickly decided to pursue entrepreneurial passions. Rob is originally from Boston and worked for Boston based companies marketing into Latin American countries such as Chile and Mexico before leaving corporate world and following an entrepreneur journey.

Rob Meehan purchased this villa in 2008

Why Rob Meehan chose Jalisco

In all of my world wide travels, I have never stayed in a house that has the type of beauty this house has to offer. I discovered it by accident and even though it needed work, it had a unique feeling and I bought it. Gradually over the last 5 years necessary improvements were made and the house whose name is Palacete was made available to rent as of January 2014.

I have property that I rent in Puerto Vallarta but have found the experience of both renting Palacete and interacting with its guests, extremely interesting and fun. If you are viewing this property you most likely have an adventurous spirit and can perhaps see that this particular house is part of Mexican culture and nothing that I write here can put it into full perspective.

What makes this villa unique

. Palacete is large but does feel overwhelming as many of the rooms are centered around principle courtyard. It's location is in a blue collar neighborhood that has many people during the day but safe.

The kitchen is a newer addition done within original design and provides a very large space overlooking the pool.

Incredible experience, clean, safe, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We traveled from New York to experience Guadalajara for the 1st time and nothing disappointed. The villa has 5 extremely large bedrooms on 2 floors that gave our group both privacy along with plenty of spaces to gather for meals or cocktails in comfort. We loved the pool along with enormous kitchen and architectura details everywhere you look.

The neighborhood as advertised is working class with repair shops on various corners but extremely interesting with a fruit market and beautiful church within 100 yards. It had a family feel and we felt extremely comfortable, safe, and never had any noise problems at night.

Love, love the city itself and had some great food experiences. Favorite restaurant was probably Anita Li for their shrimp, mango tacos. Spectacular. Would also add that best way to get around is UBER and if you are not familiar with it, go to their website and add it to your phone. It's extremely cheap in this city.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the positive feedback and we have some exciting changes planned for this year. I agree with your recommendation of Anita Li , also one of my favorites, and 100% with Uber as its low cost and saves the hassle and cost of renting a car. I also find the neighborhood very interesting , safe, and the city itself keeps getting better!

A true jewel from the 19th century

  • 5 of 5

Rob's house is a beautiful piece of property that has been fully renovated and it gave my family and I a great vacation to remember. Angel and Rob were very helpful, comunication with both of them was always a plus since they reply quick to messages and phonecalls.

The house was exactly as described and we felt safe around the neighborhood, I would totally recomend anybody to stay in this little palace since, in my experience, it's sort of a rare find in the vacation rental bussines and won't find anything like this.

Very spacious historic property

This is a beautiful home that makes you feel like you stepped into another era. It was great value for our family of 8. We traveled with our baby and unfortunately the house lacks anywhere comfortable to gather. No real living room to speak of for everyone to watch a movie or just sit around and be comfortable together. We moved furniture to make the spaces work. The floors are cold and due to the open nature of the courtyard it gets very dirty. our 4 year old had black feet everyday! Rugs or carpets would help. The rooms and beds were comfortable and all in all the villa has all the amenities of home. Angel greeted us and was very friendly and helpful whenever we had any questions he came right over. He does not speak English though! The area is ok, a nice church around the corner and a bike station if you want to bike the city. Parking was a bit of a hassle and the area at night didn't feel extremely safe and it was suggested we park our rental car a few blocks away in a 24 hour security paid parking lot. Angel said it was 50 pesos but we were charged more than 120-150 daily (it was not consistent). There is also a beautiful theater around the corner and the anthropology museum a few blocks away. Centrally located and convenient for all sites and downtown area. We would rent this villa again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for feedback and apologies for the miscommunication regarding the cost of the security parking. Regarding Angel' s English, we spoke about that on that phone and you mentioned that your personal maid that traveled with you was bilingual. For many people, all essential details are done in English via email or phone and Angel's job is to provide access to the house and , as always mentioned,he can call me if you have questions during the check-in process and I can assist with the Spanish. Part of the adventure of traveling to Guadalajara is getting away from the typical tourist spots such as Los Cabos and branching out, having fun with it, not taking it too seriously, We have added additional furniture in both central patio and kitchen for gathering based on both your feedback and continuous effort to improve the property.

Palacial Villa

  • 5 of 5

Several friends and I occupied the entire villa. All you have to do is open the front door and you are wowed. The massive hacienda style great room is quite a sight and is a great focal point for good times. Each of the bedrooms are very large and comfortable with modern baths. At the back is the beautiful pool and courtyard. The neighborhood feels safe and is convenient. We found the hosts to be very helpful and personable and had a thoroughly wonderful time. We did a lot of walking and also liberally used Uber for longer distances. I would highly recommend this villa for a group of friends, a retreat, or many other uses. It is a great value in a wonderful city.

Beautiful villa -- Super conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonder time this villa. It truly lives up to it's name, Palacete Guadalajara! The is super roomy -- truly palatial. The bedrooms & bathrooms were very roomy allowing for private time away from the group. Yet, the common areas were more than enough to accommodate our group of 10.

The house man, Angel, was super friendly & helpful. He was there to greet us, show us around & there to see us off as well. In addition, we had his number just in case of any questions that we had about the property.

The villa is super conveniently located. It is only one block from Mexicaltzingo Church. And were able to walk to the many historic buildings as well as restaurants and shopping.

I would highly recommend this villa.
