This is a family home, that hosts our kids/grandkids throughout the year. We would like to keep this family environment and are not interested in renting our family house to non-family groups.
Marcelo Alfonso purchased this house in 2008
This house was built within Hacienda Pinilla resort, which provides safety, large green areas, many private beaches, golf course, beach club, restaurants, horses, tennis, and much more...And mainly it has been recognized as one of the few BLUE ZONES of the planet. We enjoy the peace and quiet here!
My family and I recently stayed at Casa Temoana, and here is a summary that might be useful for others considering it for their vacation.
The house itself is very inviting, with well-ventilated open spaces all around. This is a two-story house, where you have the rooms in the second floor, and a master room and the social areas on the first floor. A big open kitchen, with all necessary appliances, a rustic wooden table as dinning space, and lounge area, good for a chat with friends or to play games at night, creating an appealing laid-back environment. This is not a luxurious house, as compared with other houses in Hacienda Pinilla, and there is no central A/C, so for those of you that suffer under high temperatures, this might not be the best option (rooms do have A/C).
The Pool and Rancho:
The pool and the adjacent “rancho” is where you will spend most of your stay. The water temperature is just perfect; you can spend all day in here. A small part of the pool is shallow, just perfect for little kids, and the rest of the pool is just deep enough to be able to stay cool, but allows you to stand without problem. The Rancho is an open area with a hammock, a table, some chairs, and a BBQ. The hammock is just great to read, and feel the breeze.
We found the service to be sub-par. House cleaning was only provided some of the days we stayed; there was no toilet paper (we had to buy our own); we invited two friends for dinner and were told by the house keeper that we would have to pay extra for this; the pool was not cleaned on a regular basis (we had to clean it ourselves); the laundry room was locked so we couldn’t use the dryer for our towels, and an overall hyper-vigilant attitude from the house keeper that we found unacceptable at this price range.
All in all, we had a great time at Casa Temoana; however, we think they need to improve the service in order to be competitive with the other rental houses in the area.
We really enjoyed our stay here. There were 4 adults and 4 kids, 5 and under. The house is spacious and as a great indoor/ outdoor living feel. The pool is perfect for little ones because there are several shallow areas. It was nice to be able to cook some meals if you we wanted. The place is well maintained and clean. There is a housekeeper there everyday to help you. The owners are really nice and helpful as well. We explored all the local beaches. Even though it was rainy season the weather never got in the way of us enjoying our trip. Really great place I would definitely go back!
This home was perfect for our Playa Avellenas vacation. We had 3 adults and two young children in our group. The home was equipped with everything we could possibly need, and the accommodations were extremely comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The pool was fabulous and the house was a 3 minute drive to the beach. The beach club had a beautiful pool as well, a gym, and a beach restaurant with delicious smoothies. The owners were wonderful and they gave great detail on local outings, etc. The House cleaner was quite helpful with cleaning and cooking and a super nice woman.
We were four friends traveling together for two weeks and we stayed at Casa Temoana our last week in Costa Rica. The layout of the house and grounds is lovely and quite unique. There certainly was lots of room for all of us, with the master bedroom on the main floor and three bedrooms upstairs. The location is fine and we all enjoyed the Beach Club. There is a daily $10 per person charge to enter the club but is used as a credit for your food and beverage purchases.
The house is very open to the outside, the front foyer has open wood slats and the living areas have lovely large folding glass doors. We certainly enjoyed the openness during the day, during the evening, not so much. We had to close the doors during the evening to prevent the very, very large flying "crickets" from terrorizing us - we just couldn't get used to them and didn't like having them in the house. If the open design had included screens, we could have enjoyed the lovely, cool breeze in the evenings. This was our issue not the house -we were just too North American for the open Costa Rican style. There are wonderful air conditioning units in the bedrooms and they all worked well but we all found the bathrooms very warm. The Jack and Jill bathroom upstairs had an unpleasant odor that we could not rectify during our stay. We were surprised to find, the rental included a lovely cat, which was unfortunate, as one of us was allergic to cats. We were told to keep the cat in the garage but we were, often trying to keep the cat out of the house as it enjoyed lounging on the main floor.
The housekeeper, while very pleasant, could be better utilized, the kitchen and baths could use a spring cleaning. Overall, the property is lovely and could accommodate a large group very easily as long as one enjoyed being one with nature.
My family of 7 stayed at Casa Temoana for 8 days at the end of October.
The villa is located in a gated community called Hacienda Pinilla just over an hour away from the airport and 10 minute drive from Tamarindo. Within HP community you will find the JW Marriott, another hotel called La Posada, a Beach Club, private condos, villas, a golf course, tennis courts, horse stables, and beautiful beaches. You definitely need a car to get around from the airport to the villa and if you want to go into town to get groceries. The location was perfect for our needs as you have a private villa but also access to all the hotels and amenities. There was no extra charge to use the hotel facilities or the Beach Club and Marcelo the owner was kind enough to arrange a 20% discount on food, beverages and any other services.
When we got to Casa Temoana we were welcomed by Marcelo to show us around and answer any questions. Its a very unique villa designed by Marcelo's daughter who is an architect. The villa is open concept that incorporates the outdoors in where all of the glass doors slide open overlooking the beautiful pool and waterfall in the backyard. There are four bedrooms and bathrooms with a Master on the first floor which has an incredible en-suite. The villa came with fully equipped kitchen, stainless steel appliances, built in water filter, all cooking utensils, dishware, BBQ, TV, games, DVD, stereo system with an ipod dock, WiFi, towels, linens, tanning beds etc. Marcelo has grand kids and was kind enough to leave a pack n' play, pool toys, a jogging stroller for my baby which certainly made travels easier. The stay included a maid Erika 6 days a week from 7 to 2pm, who can cook a traditional Costa Rican breakfast or something quick for lunch, which was an added bonus.
The pool in the backyard is ozonated which is a lot healthier than chlorine and we loved spending our mornings and evenings swimming around and exercising in the pool and having dinners outdoors under the palapa.
The closest beach to the villa is at the Marriott within walking distance, there is one at the Beach Club and another beach called Langosta which you need a car to get too. There are rocks at the beach but all have clear sandy areas perfect for swimming.
Overall we felt right at home as if we have lived there for years. On our last night we ran into Marcelo and invited him for dinner, he is truly an amazing and kind man who made our trip unforgettable.
We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Temoana. The house is like none other than I have ever stayed in. Wonderfully open and relaxing. It truly makes you appreciate and experience the beauty of the Costa Rica climate. The pool is fantastic and the entire home opens up to it. We enjoyed our stay so much that my family insisted we return this year! Fantastic kitchen, incredible outdoor space. In fact, I am renovating a vacation house we own in New England and am taking ideas from how wonderfully this house is laid out and uses space for entertaining. You have the feeling that a very fun family has spent many great days here. The energy in the space is outstanding. I would highly recommend this property.
