Casita de la luna is queer friendly, a peaceful, family space. A stay at the casita offers you an insider's connection to the unique local culture of the arts and healing hideout that is joshua tree. We have a menu of services and contact info for the best area bodyworkers, yoga instructors, and other teachers and healers, and plenty of suggestions for accessing all the quirky art and culture the area has to offer.
We like to greet guests on arrival and make sure all looks good to you, but consider your privacy paramount to an enjoyable stay, and aim to stay out of your way! We are just next door though, and available to sort out any questions or issues.
The joshua tree highlands neighborhood climbs up the mountains on the south side of town, bordered on the south and west by the highlands nature preserve, and the east by road out to the national park. The terrain is thick with desert vegetation, the houses are far apart, and and the views are incredible, sweeping across the valley to the north, and into the park on the east. The neighborhood has a night sky ordinance that asks folks to keep outdoor lights to a minimum, so the stars can work their magic.
As a guest at the casita you are supporting our family, and our art and healing practices. We look forward to meeting you and being a sweet part of your desert experience. Come rest, rejuvenate and get inspired!
Jenny has been living in Joshua Tree for 13 years, and built the Casa and Casita de la Luna in 2005. She is an RN, Herbalist and local business owner. Her apothecary 'Grateful Desert Herb Shoppe and EcoMarket' is a well loved centerpiece of downtown Joshua Tree. Myshkin is a composer and touring musician who recently moved from Oregon and is so happy to find herself surrounded by artists, musicians, and other gentle eccentric souls in this amazing desert hideaway town.
Jenny & Myshkin purchased this cottage in 2005
The sweet community, the wild desert, the soft air, and the giant skies and sweeping views.
Was great! Fabulous location, great views, quiet, and wonderful hosts! Will come back again.
My sister and I stayed here for one night on a road trip from California to Arizona. The place was perfect, quiet, clean and simple. We were able to make a small dinner for our evening, enjoy the hot tub and of course, the beautiful night sky. Absolutely loved the soaps, shampoo and lotion all made by Jenny. We wanted to visit her shop but unfortunately, it wasn't open before we left town. We drove through Joshua Tree Forest on our way to Arizona and I was able to take some amazing photos. We also checked out a couple of bars the night before in Joshua Tree - highly recommend Pappy and Harriet's. We were very sad we couldn't stay another day but we will be back!!!
Casita de la Luna was just what we needed to escape the chaos of the holiday season. The location is off the beaten path (just what we wanted) but the driving directions were clear. The photos and description were accurate and the space was clean and well-maintained. From the jacuzzi and starry nights to the cozy bed & amenities, the hosts have an eye for detail and respected our privacy. We only met them when we visited Jenny's Grateful Desert Herb Shoppe & EcoMarket in town (a must-do) and even got Myshin's to autograph one of her CDs (which we got to listen to in the casita-good stuff). The hosts were very accommodating and available if we had any questions (we didn't since all of their instructions were so thorough and clear). I would recommend this place to those who want a little off-the-grid time. We did get to visit Joshua Tree Saloon (for Thanksgiving dinner) and snuck in some yin yoga at Instant Karma Yoga too. We'll be back.
My new husband and I chose this perfect casita in the middle of nowhere to kick off a relaxing honeymoon in beautiful nature. The casita was better than we expected! It was just what we wanted, it was super quiet, the spa was PERFECT under the milkey way galaxy (yes, you can completely see the belt!), and the casita was warm and had everything we needed. It was a super close drive to Joshua Tree National Park and the owners were just a txt or phone call away to help us with anything we needed (they also live on site so we didn't have to worry about anything). The two small critiques we have is if you are planning on cooking, bring your own napkins or paper towels because that was really the only thing missing in the kitchen. Also, the hot water ran out incredibly fast so you need to take a quick shower. Other than that, we were very happy and would definitely come back again and would recommend it to anyone!
Absolutely loved the view of the stars from the hot tub. The Casita was super clean and exactly as pictured. Would love to come back!
