The Yards Park is a great place to play and picnic and is not well known among tourists. It hosts weekly outdoor movies (on Thursdays) in the summer and weekly (on Fridays) live music events from May - August.
Eastern Market is a famous institution. It is open 6 days a week as a historic market that hosts a baker, a fishmonger, a butcher, a florist, a grocer among other shops, but on the weekends, it hosts an outdoor farmers market, a huge flea market, and an artist's market - an amazing place to explore, people watch, and venue to discover great finds, great foods, and great non-traditional souvenirs and gifts.
We are also within biking, jogging, metro, or walking distance from the award winning Results Gym, Capitol Hill that is in a converted historic school. If you want to keep your workout routine while on vacation or on an extended stay, access can be arranged at cost. Each day visit there is $15. The gym has multiple classes, award winning locker rooms with dry and wet sauna and jacuzzi, a rock-climbing wall, extensive free weights and machines, and basket ball and racket ball courts.
Disclosure: A family lives in the unit above and though well insulated, some noise is audible between floors (not voices or music but footsteps).
Welcome to our nations Capitol!
I thought this was a lovely place and the location is great. Walk to metro or to town. Safe neighbourhood, close to grocery store. Only downsides were that because it's a lovely old house, noise from upstairs carries very well downstairs. Also, although I was told that my damage deposit would be automatically refunded, it wasn't and I had to ask after a month had gone by. Nevertheless, a nice place with a comfy bed.
I stay in VRBO 2 to 3 times a year and I have to say Desiree is by far, been the best to work with. She thought of everything. The location is perfect, we took uber a few times but used the metro mostly. The Grocery store Harris Teeter that is only a block away is the best. It has a great deli and salad bar. So many great restaurants within walking distance. I am looking forward to my next trip to DC and I will for sure be booking with Desiree again.
Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) stayed here for a week-long vacation to DC and it was perfect! It's so conveniently located- easy to get to from airport (we just took the metro), easy to get anywhere the metro runs, and only 1 block to metro station. It's right by a grocery store and close walking distance to 8th street which has great restaurants (you must try Ambar!) and live music. The apartment could not be in a better location - safe, convenient and fun!
The apartment itself is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and all appliances work great. Desiree even had cold beer, snacks and coffee waiting for us when we arrived - very thoughtful! The TV and internet wifi worked great. A/C kept things nice and cool - I really can't say enough good things about this apartment!
I whole-heartedly recommend this apartment for you stay in Washington DC. Thank you, Desiree, for sharing your home with us. Should our future travel plans take us back to DC, I would love to stay here again. Thank you for the great memories!
My spouse and I shared this place with our daughter and son-in-law for 4 nights. It was a very charming unit and extremely clean. It was very hot during our stay but our unit stayed very cool and comfortable with the air conditioning. Desiree provides a tray of bottled water, oatmeal packets, popcorn, etc., and the Metro cards for convenience. We did some light cooking - mostly for breakfasts. For suppers, we walked about 5 blocks down G Street to 8th Street in the evenings where there are numerous restaurants to choose from. Enroute is the Marine Barracks which covers a city block and is home to the Commandant of the USMC. The parameter is guarded by our USMC 24/7. Their drill platoon performs their silent drill exhibition most Friday nights at sunset and is open to the public. We utilized the Metro and Uber rides for transportation during our stay - both very convenient. We would definitely come back here when we return to the D.C. area and also recommend it to our friends.
My wife, my adult son, and myself spent five nights in Washington DC and we couldn't have found a better place to stay for the amount of money and location wise than Desiree's townhouse. We were literally four houses off of Pennsylvania Avenue and the Capitol was only a 30 minute walk away. As soon as we got into the townhouse it felt like home to all of us and Desiree had snacks, cold beer, and coffee waiting for us. She checked in with me by email to make sure that we had everything we needed and I truly appreciated that. There are several quaint food places along Pennsylvania Avenue on the way to the Capitol and they are open late. The kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom were excellently furnished with everything thing we needed and both the bed in the bedroom and the pull out couch in the living room were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone vacationing in DC !!!
3 of us stayed very comfortably here for 4 nights. It was very easy walking distance to the metro (we walked all the way to the National Mall and back several times - easy and safe!), and to two grocery stores (Harris Teeter is just around the corner to the left as you're leaving the house). We ate all of our meals here for our entire stay and the only thing that we needed was pot holders. Stove and oven work great. The bed in the bedroom is extremely comfortable, but the headboard is very squeaky and I'm a light sleeper so it was bothersome (I always bring earplugs with me) and I passed that information on to Desiree as we were leaving. The internet works great, we had no trouble with connecting. TV was great.. has HBO and other premium channels and has built in Netflix, which was very handy. One reviewer had complained about the area due to the apartment complex across the street, but we did not have one single issue with the area and never felt unsafe. Besides the occasional ambulance, there was no street noise. Having the unit mostly underground made it very quiet. Overall we had a very good stay here and would stay again.
