Our home is situated on 2 1/2 (1 hectare) acres of peaceful surroundings in the small mountain town of Birri. Only 20 minutes from the San Jose International Airport.
The house is 3164 ft2 with 3 floors, which include 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, and open kitchen living room floor plan. The style is a Louisiana French Acadian House.
Three of the bedrooms have double beds and one bedroom/playroom has a foam mattress available to put on the floor. The master bedroom has a king size bed and master bath. There is custom wood cabinetry and beautiful wood detail throughout the whole house. The first floor has gorgeous wood flooring and the second and third have cozy carpet.
We also have 2 large porches. The back porch is screened in and has a hammock and table/benches so you can eat or relax outside without being bothered by the insects. The front porch has 2 porch swings and a teak bench to enjoy the view of the yard.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove/oven and all you need to prepare your meals(not including food). We have towels and bed linens available for your use too, as well as a washer and dryer.
Food and bathroom toiletries, are not included. Though we will try to keep cleaning supplies available for the house for short term stays.
There are several nearby convenience stores within walking distance, as well as a restaurant, pharmacy, fruit stand, and hardware store, all about 500 meters away.
We have a selection of English books for your reading pleasure available and toys for the kids. The house has Wi-Fi and cable TV.
**There is also a swing set and playhouse/sandbox in the yard.
The views from our house to the Central Valley and Barva Volcano are exquisite; and the yard has at least ten different types of fruit trees, including mango, banana, and guayaba, as well as other plants and trees that flower all year long. There is also a river at the bottom of the hill for you to explore. The yard is lined by a bamboo privacy fence.
Our town, Birri, is located in the Central Valley of the Province of Heredia, about 1 1/2 hours from some of the most beautiful beaches in the Americas on the Pacific Coast.
In fewer than 3 hours you can be on the Caribbean Coast or visit famous Arenal Volcano. Volcan Poas and several canopy tours are located about 45 minutes or less from our house. We actually live at the foot of Volcan Barva, which is an inactive volcano with a national park where you can hike and enjoy the cloud forest with all its strange and beautiful vegetation.
Café Britt offers an amazing coffee plantation tour and is only 15 minutes away. This is coffee plantation country due to the fertile volcanic soil and temperate climate.
The climate has spring-like temperatures all year long. You will only need a light sweater for some of the cool nights or after a nice rain; but shorts and tank tops are what you should pack.
We have our resident pets who are there to keep you company as well. Lucy and Blossom are our 2 cats who live on the front porch.
***Finally, we are strict about the amount of people not only staying in our house, but coming to visit. So if you are interested in having a party, get together, reunion, wedding, anniversary, or event of any kind, please communicate that to me, because we have a different rate for any events/get together that involves more than 10 people in the house. Thank you so much for understanding.
If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
***Our property manager is my sister in law, Teresa Lobo. She is there to help you with anything you need.
We are very excited about being able to offer our home to you and can’t wait to begin sharing our little bit of paradise with you this way, and hoping that you will be blessed!

**We welcome families, but we expect you to clean up your own children’s messes and repair or replace anything that your children may damage.
We are Sharon and Manuel Lobo and we have 7 children, Our house was built with family in mind. We now are living in Bigfork, Montana and travel back and forth when we can.
I, Sharon, am originally from Louisiana and went down to Costa Rica in 1991, after serving for 2 1/2 years with Mercy Ships and YWAM. I was with a Christian Mission in Birri and there met my Tico husband, Manuel.
We were married in 1992, and we built our home in 2001. We owned a custom millwork business in Costa Rica for 20 years until we closed it and moved to Montana in 2012. So all the woodwork in the house is custom made from our own shop.
Our family still travels back and forth from Bigfork, Mt to Costa Rica several times a year to visit family and friends.
We certainly hope you enjoy your stay in our home and we are so happy to be able to offer our home for vacation time in Costa Rica.
Sharon Lobo purchased this house in 2001
This property has been in my husband's family for years as part of a coffee plantation. We cleared off most of the coffee, except for a small section that acts as a buffer between the house and the road, and built our house and landscaped the yard ourselves.
The unique style of the house leaves you feeling like you are in a southern plantation, set in a tropical paradise. Yet without the extreme heat. The temperatures in Birri are almost always in the 70's.
Our favorite thing to do is to sip coffee in the mornings on the front porch swings or enjoy the sunset in the afternoons from the back porch hammock.
The yard is completely fenced in, so I was always at peace about letting our kids play outside without having to keep an eye on them every minute of the day. We have nearby family for our neighbors, though you can't really see their houses, due to the bamboo fencing.
This house is nothing like the pictures, is way BETTER! the whole environment it's so peaceful and perfect, literally once you're in there you get transported into a romantic movie scene where every little detail is wonderful. I've no doubt that this feeling of the place is fruit of the environment the owners worked to create long time ago, and now we are enjoying it. My family and I are so thankful for the how we were treat the whole time, we want to get back every year!
Staying at the mountains for holidays, have never being so great until now. Thanks a lot! Blessings!
My family and I so enjoyed staying here! It is so peaceful and serene, the views are beautiful, the house is amazing, and we were in awe of the abundance of fruit trees on the property. We spent lots of time enjoying the great front and back porches, the beautifully landscaped yard, and the loving resident cats. It was the perfect place for us - a hidden oasis in the Central Valley, close enough to Heredia and San Jose activities, as well as Poas and other nearby fun. Thanks so much for the great stay!
It was a never to forget experiance. From our crazy busy life in Holland to the tranquillo and free minded private paradise. From the moment we stepped foot in the yard we were happy :) The trees, the grass, the little playhouse, the swing and go on. All little places where you can relax and just be. My mind was so full but now i am relaxed again! The house has all the facilities that you need, it is cosy and so big. And best of all are the two verandas! Mmmmm cant wait to stay here again...
I don't even know where to start to rave about how wonderful this property is!
First off, the owner is wonderful. She was very accommodating to our middle of the week dates and responded to my questions promptly.
The house... as soon as you open the gate to the property, your jaw is dropped for the whole tour. Believe it or not, it is more beautiful than the pictures.
The property is safe, private, and beautiful. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, everything you need in the kitchen. I am a slight picky when it comes to the cleanliness of a house we rent, but was at ease when I walked in because it was super clean! The house is surrounded with fruit trees that you can utilize when cooking which was awesome!
The property itself is just amazing. It was nice to have a store within walking distance for anything we needed.
My sister lives 15 minutes from this house so we will definitely be back. There is no reason to even look for somewhere else to stay because it doesn't get better than this.
Thank you so much Sharon! We have found our new home when we come visit!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Costa Rica and this house was perfect for us! Sharon and Teresa were both super helpful, and they both went out of their way to make sure our stay was excellent. The land on which the house sits is beautiful! It is well maintained and makes coming back each afternoon a great experience! The interior of the house is also well maintained - everything functioned as it should. The temperature inside the house stays comfortable with the windows open (the windows all have screens, too, so no bugs got in). Also, the breakfast area in the screened-in back deck was super comfortable and allowed our family - 7 adults and 2 children - to have breakfast together each morning.
This is definitely a house I would use again if my family were to visit the area again.
We loved everything about this place from the expansive, secluded and beautiful grounds to the open, inviting wood-soaked interior. We ate fresh bananas from the property and enjoyed both the front and back verandas. The hammock on the back veranda was a nice touch. All the amenities were here and we felt right at home. Sharon and Teresa were wonderful and accommodating and we loved the "porch cats". Stay here. You'll love it!
My family and I had wonderful time at this beautiful and amazing house! we just felt at home the minute we walk inside! we just couldn't believe how beautiful this house is...the pictures are great but you need to be in it to enjoy the peace this property brings!
We enjoy eating from the fruit trees so much/ mangoes/mandarines/Cas (this is a Costarrican fruit) some call it sour guava!
The view from the mountains from the 3rd floor is amazing...the roosters crowing/ sitting on the porch watching the rain fall with the company of the farm two cats and doggie couldn't be better.
The master bedroom is huge and the bed so comfy...the house was very clean and we had everything we needed.
Maria Teresa (Sharon's sister in law) the manager was very sweet and helpful, we had no problem with the house but she was always in touch with us asking if everything was fine!
I would recommend this Farmhouse 100% you won't regret it...everything in it is beautiful?peaceful/easy access to many tourist points, local are very helpful. This farmhouse is one of the best houses I have ever rented thru vrbo. Last but not least Sharon the owner send me my full deposit within a week! thank you Sharon!!
