We have tried several VRBO or HomeAway rentals - some with multiple/yearly visits - but this was our first try at a pet-friendly property. It turned out much better than expected. There is always a risk when you rent something sight unseen, and even though you see pictures, you never know when the pictures were taken and/or how run-down the property may be when you arrive. This property was not run-down; it was not damaged by pets; it was very nice and 'as advertised'! We are not pet people so we would notice if there were remnants that we could detect, but that was not the case. Our daughter found this property so she could bring her dog along for the trip - it turned out that the pup loved every minute of the vacation so that added another element of enjoyment for us too. The added bonus of a fenced in back yard was a bonus for us and for the dog. Parking was great (and that is usually a challenge for beach property rentals), decks, living and eating areas were great, the bedrooms were great, the bathrooms...everything was 'as advertised'! But the views were the best part - especially with our clear weather and sunrises and full moon - my wife enjoyed the top deck so much that she only ventured to the beach a couple times - she's not much of a frisbee or wiffle ball fan nowadays anyway!
From the moment we arrived until we checked out, we completely felt at home in this comfortable, well maintained beach house. The outdoor living space was wonderful for relaxing with a beautiful view and dining outdoors. The beds and couches were very comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the location was wonderful with easy access to a quieter beach. We brought an 8 month old baby and small dog both who were safe and comfortable. Additionally, despite this being a pet friendly home, we had no major allergy issues and the house was very clean. We dined in a few nights and went out in Brigantine and Atlantic City - we had several cakes from Aversa's bakery as well which were all delicious. We can't wait to return here next summer!!
This property was fantastic!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a beach getaway...This house was very clean and well kept and was friendly to our dog that is how we landed here...There where some minor issues that we contacted the Owner and the response was quick and prompt to resolve the issues...I am looking forward to tenting this property again in the future!!
Location of house is close to beach and near town. We were excited for a family getaway with our young children. House has a nice set up with large kitchen and open great room. However off the bat it was obvious the owner was not invested in maintaining the home, which was unexpected as the rental was expensive. Repairs were patch jobs, there was a lack of kitchen supplies, toilet paper, etc. Upon my arrival I found an open corona on the deck off the master bedroom. All irritating, but easy issues to work around.
Half-way through our stay we notified the owner that the ceiling above the dining area started leaking in multiple places and then it quickly spread across the ceiling into the living room. It turned out to be the Jacuzzi above, which basically emptied out through the ceiling to the floor below. We cleaned up and immediately asked the owner not to send a repair person until we left as we had small children and were uncomfortable with a repair person being there, and the toxins they would leave behind. The repair person came nonetheless and left a mess behind.
Overall the trip was fine, even with the hiccups at the house. The way the owner (and her agents) handled everything was very disappointing and caused undue stress during our trip. To my surprise, instead of compensating us for the mess and inconvenience the owner took money from our security deposit. Her reasoning was that extra cleaning was required, we broke something, and left late. The reasoning was ludicrous, as we cleaned multiple times a day and did not break anything. We had received permission from the friend for a late departure which was not properly communicated, and resulted in the realtor calling and screaming at us.
The owner was traveling in France and had left a friend who lived hours away as a substitute. The owner also had a local realtor to "assist". Between the three communication was not smooth. I would have given three starts for the homestay, but the owner's attitude dragged the experience downward. I would not stay again at this home or any property belonging with this owner.
We were lucky to find this house only 3 weeks before our vacation since I'm pregnant with twins and only received the "all clear" from the doctor a few weeks in advance of our vacation. The booking process was easy and the house looks as pictured. In fact they don't even include a picture of the 2nd level balcony which we spent the most time on - it has a great dining and seating set. Unfortunately when we got to the house we learned that the dishwasher was broken but someone was coming to fix it on Wednesday - not ideal since it was Saturday when we arrived but we understood. After telling the owner that it was inconvenient to not have a working dishwasher for a few days she offered to drop off paper plates and utensils - which was nice, although still doesn't help when serving dinner as I personally don't love eating with a plastic fork and my husband doesn't like drinking bourbon from a plastic cup but nonetheless it was only going to be a few days. Unfortunately on Wednesday the repair people came and couldn't fix the dishwasher and the owner said it wouldn't be fixed during our stay. She didn't offer anything - said she dropped off paper plates and felt that was sufficient. We ended up wasting food we had purchased because we felt it was too much hassle while on vacation to cook and clean so we ended up going out for dinner our remaining nights. When I inquired about getting money back, she said she would get back to me. After a few days, I hadn't heard from her and emailed her to follow-up. She finally offered us a $300 credit for next summer should we choose to stay there again. Personally, I thought that was extremely stingy - she should have offered us money back on our current stay not a credit for next summer. Any time I've booked through vacationrentals.com and had an issue (this is my 3rd booking in the past year), the owners have gone out of their way to #1 fix the issue quickly and #2 compensate us for our inconvenience without us asking. I felt like Shirley was unresponsive (it shouldn't take multiple emails over multiple days to get a response) and stingy. I even had to mention that there was no extra toilet paper or trash bags in the house which seems like something that a house should come with. She ended up dropping off 4 rolls of toilet paper from the dollar store - seriously?!? Overall, very nice house, great location but stingy and unresponsive owner.
Nice location with great view of beach. The layout and amenities are good. The kitchen has all the tools you need. The owner/manager is nice to deal with. Our family, including the dog, had a very nice stay. Nice that there is a garage to keep bikes and other items inside, too.
Beautiful uncrowded beaches.
