About Chloe

This house is owned by my Grandmother Christine, but managed by me, her granddaughter. Granny was born and bred in Barbados and has a special love for collecting unique and special property throughout the isalnd. This property is one of her favorites and we are so happy to share it with you.

Why Chloe chose Saint James

The house has been owned and operated by our family for over 50 years. My grandmother has overseen countless renovations and updates and it is a property very close to our heart. It is a beautiful family home on an exquisite, private beach with the most beautiful blue water and white sand. Stay with us and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay in your house. We liked the fact that it was a whole

house with privacy and that it was very clean and comfortable. We loved

the fact that the kitchen was fully functional and that you had BBQ grill.

We liked the location and having the beach behind it. It was perfect for

snorkeling. The washing machine and dryer worked fine and so did the internet connection.

Thank you for all of the above.

St James is the nicest spot on Barbados

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the easy access to the beach and the house's proximity to Holetown beach bars and restaurants. The place is nicely cared for and well priced.

Good location! Beautiful views!

  • 3 of 5

The property had a beautiful view and was in a great location to venture out around the island which we did every day with our car rental. We are a family of 4- Mom and Dad, 17 year old son and 4 year old daughter. Chloe went out of her way to make our Christmastime visit especially sweet for our 4 year old including having a small table-sized Christmas tree up and decorated for Santa to visit. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house had all the basic necessities. Negatives of the property is that it's basically a split level in part so you have to use steps into the master bathroom which were a little scary for me and our little girl. This was also true to enter the den/dining/kitchen area and again to go onto the porch, again to get to the yard and again to step onto the beach. This was a negative for me as I am physically handicapped and I apparently missed this information when I reviewed the property. The steps are also concerning for small kids especially the bathroom. We were also startled early Christmas morning by some man violently beating on the front door repeatedly until we answered him and he stated he was collecting money for "old people". We've traveled all over the world and that was a first. We were securely locked in behind the metal gates on the front and back door and the windows but it was still alarming. I understand this is beyond the owners control but with the house set back off the main road it was rather odd. The mosquitoes here are significant so the idea of opening the front and backdoors for a breezeway were just not an option. Overall rating of Barbados for us was a B-. We loved the daily adventures and the views were beautiful. We enjoyed Bathsheba, The Animal Flower Bay (including the restaurant), the Flower Forest, Earthworks, Carlisle Bay, Mullins Beach, Sandy Lane, Speightstown, Holetown, etc. The food was extremely expensive even compared to Hawaii and the South Pacific and it was difficult to get reservations to a lot of restaurants because of the holidays although we travel every holiday. We don't revisit islands so we are thankful we were able to visit Barbados and overall it was an enjoyable experience for our family. Thank you Chloe!

Owner's Response: Hi Andy, So glad to have you spend your Christmas was us. It was a pleasure decorating the tree for your little one. I apologize if it was not clear that the house was multiple levels, as we thought the photos were suffice, but will make sure to include that in our description from now. In addition, we are also sorry for the interruption that you had on Christmas morning and contacted you right away and asked if you would like us to get the police involved, as that would be a first for us in terms of having someone trespass on the property. We are evaluating the house now and looking into some additional security. Thanks again for your valuable feedback, we are always looking for ward to improve our home.

Ocean Hollow is adequate...

  • 3 of 5

The biggest drawback to this place is that it has no screens in the windows/doors. There is a nice cross breeze if you leave the front door and back door open, but then all the mosquitoes get in. The only air conditioning is in the bedroom so shutting the windows/doors is not really feasible so we had to wear insect repellent inside all the time. No paper towels or dish washing liquid was provided, so you will need to pick those up at the store. There are no left over items from previous renters such as salt, sugar, etc. that you sometimes encounter in villas, so you will need to purchase everything. Kitchen items were adequate—glasses/dishes nice but some of the pots were a bit tired. Bedrooms/living room/dining room were fine. The back porch is nice and furnished with a dining area and a seating area. It has an outdoor shower outside near the sandy area. You can go through the gate and there is a tiny strip of beach, at least at low tide, then the ocean. At high tide the waves actually lap the wall. There is a public access path adjacent to the house, so there is a bit of foot traffic out back. To lock the front door, there are 2 locks on the door and 2 padlocks to lock the iron gate in front of the door which makes it a pain if you forget something in the house and have to go back in. There is a lock on the sliding door at the back and 2 padlocks on the iron gates on the back. In addition, there are a dangerous few steps in one of the bathrooms that were a concern.

The contact person, Chloe was extraordinarily helpful and responsive. All of our questions were answered with remarkable speed and charm.

We had a great time at Ocean Hollow and swimming at the Open Water Festival, but we would not rent this villa again, mainly because of the no screens issue.

Owner's Response: Hi Paul, I am glad that you enjoyed your time at our property. Just to address your comment on the screens, unfortunately we are not able to screen in the windows and doors because of the size of the sliding doors. You will also find that not many places in Barbados do have screens, because it severally affects the cross-ventilation and the cool ocean breeze that filters through the house. We have had the property treated professionally for mosquitoes, and have not had any other complaints from our guests on this matter. Thanks for your comments, we appreciate your feedback! Chloe

It's a little piece of paradise...never get tired of the view, the sunsets every afternoon!

  • 5 of 5

Ocean Hollow is an amazingly affordable gem on the west coast where the sea is like a huge swimming pool!! Except we can go snorkeling, swim among turtles and fish! We love this property not only because the beach and ocean are on our doorstep but especially because of the mature mahogany trees that shade it from the afternoon sun and when not sun tanning, can relax under with a book. The house has everything you need and the house manager Chloe is the best!

Private Beachfront

  • 5 of 5

Clean two bedroom villa on the beach. From the front gate of the villa, you can take a left to the sandy beach or take a right towards crystal cove sandy beach. You cannot swim directly infront of this villa due to small amd medium rocks, but its private, beautiful, and a good place to sit on porch and listen to the sea and the waves hitting the rocks. We walked up and down the beaches many times. Many small crabs in the yard and rocks to see. Turtles and fishes to see within a four blocks swim radius.

Villa came with all utilities, all utensils, AC only in bedrooms and living room hot at times. Fans in all the rooms. We kept all the windows closed after getting 95% of mosquitos out with citronella candels. Will need to shop for more toilet paper, bath soap and dish soap and any grocery items you need for the week. We ate at the roti den, el tiempo II, tamarind hotel, the lobster pot, the boatyard, De outback. Go to Carlie Bay if you want many sports activies and umbrellas on the beach: the boartyard offers this. Speightown is not far and has great quiet beaches and there is shopping there that is much more reasonable than limegrove which was expensive. It was a quite and relaxing week. Feels like true island living.

Cozy Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Ocean Hollow for an extended weekend, and had a wonderful experience. The photos posted do not do this place justice...very scenic spot, beautiful ocean views, very well kept place.

It was hard leaving, but we are sure we will be back again.
