About Jennifer Mathis

My husband and I live just outside Charleston, SC with our two daughters. We love to travel and explore new places which is one of the many reasons we have fallen for Western North Carolina.

Jennifer Mathis purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Jennifer Mathis chose Swannanoa

Three and 3/4 acres backing up to hundreds of National Forest acres was the first thing that caught our attention. The second was a ramshackle house on the property that we were sure was destined for the bulldozer. After a little time and consideration, we thought it might be more interesting to give this small home a second life. With the brilliance of the nighttime sky to motivate us and the braying of nearby donkeys to make us smile, we undertook a renovation that lasted a little over a year. The end result is a gathering space that makes us want to crack open a game, pick up a guitar or read a book on the adirondack swing. We love it and hope you do too!

What makes this cottage unique

Private but close to all the things we love to do - discovering good restaurants, music, experiencing Asheville's deep arts culture, hiking...

Super convenient to Asheville and we still get to feel connected to the mountains and nature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Gem!

  • 5 of 5

The Little Red Casa was amazing. Tucked away so nicely against the mountains--we enjoyed every view inside and outside the cabin. Every detail is so well thought out-one of the best supplied homes we have stayed in through VRBO. Very close to everything in the Asheville area and also the Blue Ridge Parkway. Jennifer was prompt in communicating during the booking process and we had no need to communicate during the stay. I highly recommend and would stay again when in the area.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

Red Casa was just what we needed. Cute, quiet, well stocked, clean and well decorated. We were comfortable the moment we set foot in this cute cottage. The sofa was comfy to hang out in while watching tv but we spent most our time on the deck, which was awesome. The kitchen was wonderfully set up. We were very close to our running path on Warren Wilson College property. Jennifer was fantastic to work with and the cottage was easy too find with her directions. We will be back. Almost forgot to mention the butterfly bush. I enjoyed watching the monarchs land a flutter here. I don't know what the huge flowering plant was outside the master but it was beautiful also.

A stylish house that felt like home immediately.

  • 5 of 5

The house fit our family of four perfectly. Our two boys enjoyed all the games and books that they thoughtfully provided. My husband and I are artists and we appreciated the original works found throughout the space.

The house was close to everything but far enough away to be secluded and peaceful. We daytripped to Mt. Mitchell and Chimney Rock and spent another day exploring Asheville. The grocery store was just a short drive and it was nice to be able to prepare our meals in the modern kitchen. It was a fantastic trip, next time we just need to stay more days. Our dog loved it too! Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay! The house is in a great spot - you feel like you are in a quiet, secluded area, and yet it is only about a 15/20 minute drive to downtown and the Biltmore! It is also easy to find. The house itself had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The floor plan is very open, which is great for visiting with everyone. I wish we could have used the fire pit, but didn't have enough time. Thanks!

Such A Sweet Place!

  • 5 of 5

The Little Red Casa was a lovely place to stay and enjoy a relaxing time away! The owners have paid attention to every detail! Quiet, private, and peaceful - even for my husband who enjoyed a day of watching football!! I loved the light and airy feel, yet warm and cozy. It was very clean and had all we needed. Even the pillows on the bed were comfortable! We did not get to enjoy the outdoors as much as we wanted due to rain but sneaked out into the yard with the fire pit and swing every time we had the chance. The close proximity to the activities we had planned was an extra bonus. We look forward to our return!
