About Jennifer Mathis

My husband and I live just outside Charleston, SC with our two daughters. We love to travel and explore new places which is one of the many reasons we have fallen for Western North Carolina.

Jennifer Mathis purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Jennifer Mathis chose Asheville Area

Three and 3/4 acres backing up to hundreds of National Forest acres was the first thing that caught our attention. The second was a ramshackle house on the property that we were sure was destined for the bulldozer. After a little time and consideration, we thought it might be more interesting to give this small home a second life. With the brilliance of the nighttime sky to motivate us and the braying of nearby donkeys to make us smile, we undertook a renovation that lasted a little over a year. The end result is a gathering space that makes us want to crack open a game, pick up a guitar or read a book on the adirondack swing. We love it and hope you do too!

What makes this cottage unique

Private but close to all the things we love to do - discovering good restaurants, music, experiencing Asheville's deep arts culture, hiking...

Super convenient to Asheville and we still get to feel connected to the mountains and nature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week recently. It was perfect. Gorgeous views, every comfort of home and we even had a nightly visit from a mama bear and her 3 cubs. It was great to roast marshmallows each evening around the fire pit. We will be back next year.

Unique

  • 5 of 5

The little red casa is one of the most unique vacation homes we've stayed in. It is a small home but the layout and decor make it feel quite spacious. It's a light-filled home that blends in beautifully with its natural surroundings. It's also very clean and very comfortable. Being in the little red casa felt like being in the middle of nowhere but we were close to everything including Asheville. We could only stay 2 nights but we hope to go back and stay a week because there is so much to do and see in the area. The owner Jennifer was great to work with and provided lots of clear instructions and information about the home and the area. We really enjoyed our stay at the little red casa.

Comfortable, Quiet and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was there. The surroundings were peaceful and we even had a resident rabbit who we saw every morning and evening in the yard. The location was great - Black Mountain and Asheville were both easily accessible. Would definitely come back again!

Fantastic house in gorgeous location!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing! Nice, open, modern yet cozy renovation. Nestled in the woods with a lovely view of mountains and the valley. Only about 15 minutes away from Asheville but it feels so private. Perfect for us and the pups. Nice deck for relaxing and a fire pit for starry nights. We have been renting places twice a year in the asheville area for about a decade and this is by far the best one we have ever stayed in. Very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is perfect for being able to cook while interacting with everyone. Thanks!

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

The Peaceful Mountain cabin is the perfect spot. Tucked away on a quiet road, it is simple, beautiful and peaceful. The house is immaculate and the space is designed brilliantly. 990 sq ft can seem tight in some settings, but at this house, the kitchen is huge, there is a great hang out area, a great eating area, comfortable bedrooms, a nice bathroom and a deck with a view! And what a view. There is simple and beautiful art throughout the house that gives it great character. It is modern with rustic touches. It is stocked with books, games, movies and even some toys, but it is not chock-full of stuff that make some places overwhelming (especially with a 2 year old!) We loved it and will be back.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The little red casa was a perfect getaway for our baby moon. We were pleasantly surprised that it was even better than the photos! Super cute and very clean! The location and privacy were exactly what we were looking for. Our doggies were big fans too! Highly recommend!
