About Jennifer Mathis

My husband and I live just outside Charleston, SC with our two daughters. We love to travel and explore new places which is one of the many reasons we have fallen for Western North Carolina.

Jennifer Mathis purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Jennifer Mathis chose Asheville Area

Three and 3/4 acres backing up to hundreds of National Forest acres was the first thing that caught our attention. The second was a ramshackle house on the property that we were sure was destined for the bulldozer. After a little time and consideration, we thought it might be more interesting to give this small home a second life. With the brilliance of the nighttime sky to motivate us and the braying of nearby donkeys to make us smile, we undertook a renovation that lasted a little over a year. The end result is a gathering space that makes us want to crack open a game, pick up a guitar or read a book on the adirondack swing. We love it and hope you do too!

What makes this cottage unique

Private but close to all the things we love to do - discovering good restaurants, music, experiencing Asheville's deep arts culture, hiking...

Super convenient to Asheville and we still get to feel connected to the mountains and nature.

We loved this little cabin. The kitchen was huge and well equipped. Plenty of fun games and movies. The entire house is completely new inside from top to bottom and done very well. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back if in the area.

Love! Love! Love it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property! We were in the area for a wedding and it was nicely located between the wedding venue and downtown Asheville. Lots of hiking trails around as well. The place was as described and in beautiful condition. It was so peaceful and we really enjoyed the outside space. We had coffee on the outside deck and s'mores around the fire pit. I especially liked sitting on the bench swing looking out on the mountains. The kitchen was huge and fully stocked with utensils and such. The beds were comfortable and we appreciated having the linens and towels provided. For rainy days they have plenty of books, games, and movies to keep you occupied.. Our dogs had plenty of fun exploring the yard. The binder full of recommendations for food, attractions, etc was extremely helpful. We will definitely be returning and I would highly recommend this place - unless you want it the same time we do ;)

Perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We felt at home immediately at the farm house. The furnishings were adorable and the amount of space was just right for our family of 4. The kids loved feeding the horses and donkeys down the road and enjoyed the games and movies shared. The location was close enough to everything to get there easily (hiking, Asheville, restaurants) but far enough out to still feel like we got away. If we come back to the area, we will definitely return. Thanks for a great stay.

Great cabin and stay!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is as cute and picturesque as its pictures! We really enjoyed staying in this cabin and wished we could have stayed longer. Our kids loved the games provided and the large backyard and fire pit. There is a grocery store nearby so we enjoyed eating in at night. Asheville is closer than I thought it would be when I booked the cabin and the area is packed with many things to do. Highly recommend!

Best little cabin that we have been to in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is just the right size for a small family. It is very peaceful being at the end of a road. The inside of the cabin is maintained very well by the owners making it feel like home when you stay there. It is also in a perfect spot because it is not far from Asheville or any of the fun activities that you can do while there. I would recommend this beautiful spot to anyone! Perfect price! Perfect place!
