HELIOS Cave house is located in the heart of old Oia, one of the most beautiful and desirable spots on the island. An additional advantage: HELIOS is ideally located just bellow the Castle, the famous sunset point of Oia, on the main pedestrian walkway leading to Ammoudi bay. Guests enjoy the unobstructed view of Oia's famous sunsets from the lovely private terrace!
That is why 'SISTERHOOD of the traveling pants' was filmed THERE! Most of the film, especially the first part, was filmed in front of HELIOS Cave house. At the last scene you can see the facade of HELIOS as Lena rides a donkey on the steps from Ammoudi to Oia!
The second part was filmed in Ammoudi bay. The steps of HELIOS lead to Ammoudi and to St Nicolas island, where the jump off took place! (write ' Lena & Kostas' and 'Go Jump Off a Cliff-STP' in google search and you will find the episodes!)
Unlike most cave houses in Santorini, once you enter HELIOS Cave House you are surprised by the soaring heights of the curved ceiling. Spacey, roomy, well-lit, the house maintains a constant temperature throughout the year (bioclimatic house), providing a refreshing, cool welcome after a long day under the demanding Greek sun. Inside, the white color prevails almost everywhere. It will make you feel refreshed, calm and pure. The unique architecture of the cave house meets with art objects and airy furniture to please the senses.
Outside, the private veranda and SANTORINI PARADISE reception terrace provide the stage for unencumbered relaxation staring the amazing landscape of the caldera. Your eyes feast on the view producing numberless private mental postcards. You will enjoy your breakfast/dinner at the romantic private veranda with panoramic view of Oia's sunset, the volcano and the island of Thirasia.
You are invited at our SANTORINI PARADISE reception terrace for a glass of wine with meze (on the house) to enjoy the famous Oia's sunset! Take a look at the heart shaped photo a guest shot while being at our reception terrace!
HELIOS, as most cave homes, was built into the volcanic ash more than 1000 years ago in the traditional way. In Santorini people built their houses partially underground or into the cliffs to be protected from the wind, the cold and the summer sun. At the same time, they used doors and windows for ventilation resulting in an open airy feel specific to historic Santorini architecture.
HELIOS Cave House is modernized and comfortable. It is a beautiful cave home that has a bedroom with a full bed with canopy, a loft with another full bed and a spacious living room with a sofa bed. The crisp white walls are indicative of a traditional island cave home and will provide a true cave home living experience, with modern amenities. Staying with tradition, there are no inside doors between the living and sleeping areas. The roomy bathroom includes a shower. There is also a kitchenette. Furnished in traditional Greek island style and decorated with the owner’s original artwork, this property provides guests with a unique experience. The property is perfect for the solo traveler, a couple’s retreat or a family.
A Masso Cave in the depths of HELIOS cave house!
We are pleased to announce the addition of the Masso Room (Greek verb: to touch, to work with hands) at HELIOS Cave House. A unique space has been re-purposed as a massage room so our guests can share a personal, intimate experience with their partner, significant other or spouse. Built into the depths of the house, the space has been appointed with a massage table and comfortable bench with pillows. Of our five senses, touch is the most meaningful. Providing your loved one with a personal massage would be a romantic way to end your day on the island! Our guests will be provided massage oils, candles, relaxing music and towels/pillows. Oia really is just as magical of a place in person as it is in pictures and staying in Maria's cave house was beyond perfect! The location is amazing! Everywhere you look is beautiful. I had just recently torn my miniscus in my knee and was worried about the stairs in Oia but her house is not too far of a walk from the main path, it really was the perfect location! Maria was a delight to work with! She was helpful with answering all my questions from before booking the house to checking in on us when we were staying there! She sent a porter to help carry our bags down the stairs for us and arranged a porter and taxi for us when it was time to leave the island. Her being so helpful made our stay even more wonderful. The house itself was beautiful but working with Maria made our stay even better. I would recommend this house in Oia to families, couples, or friends. There was plenty of space for more than just my Mom and I! Thanks, Maria!
This place was so cute and really close to everything! Close to restaurants, shops, little grocery store and the wharf where tour boats docked. Most importantly it had the best view of the famous sunset in Oia.
The accommodation itself is small but that's because I travelled with 3 other people. However, I didn't feel it was crowded at all, I felt very comfortable, would be perfect for couples as well. It was very modern and clean. Just don't flush the toilet paper down the toilet, something you will learn when travelling in Europe. We used the kitchen on our 3rd day, we had breakfast up the top where the balcony was and enjoyed the view.
300+ steps down from the place you have access to more restaurants by the water. It's also where our tour boat started from, again location was convenient. If you can't walk up that many steps you can hire a donkey for a few euros that would take you.
Maria was a perfect host, she reminded me of my mother, her hospitality was amazing, if you had any questions she would be happy to answer. She provided champagne and nibbles for free as we enjoyed our first sunset on her balcony that was private and only available to guest. So many people would crowd around just to see the sunset but you will have VIP view!
Only thing I would say is be prepared to walk from where the bus drops you to the accommodation. Serves me right for carrying such heavy luggage. There was four of us and the person who met with us could only carry two bags, I was the unfortunate one who carried my own bag, hence I was so tired by the end of it that I didn't appreciate the view the moment I arrived. Also, maybe it was a user issue (lol) but the lights in the toilet would always switch on automatically. We didn't know how to switch it off. Really annoying if you can't sleep with lights on. Didn't bother me much though.
Other than that, I'd stay here again for sure! Thanks Maria and I hope when I do come back you are still allowing people to stay here. What a gem!
As someone who travels all over the world, I was keen on finding a unique, authentic, and memorable place to stay on Santorini. I wanted a view of the famous Oia sunset, as opposed to the traditional caldera view that you can get anywhere else and at most restaurants. Helios cave house fit all my wishes. First, Maria is amazing and incredibly responsive to any need you have during your stay. She is a wonderful person and made sure our stay was memorable. Second, the view from the veranda is the best. People line the streets above and below you for the view that you have all to yourself. It's stunning and the view to the sunset is unobstructed. Lastly, the cave house is clean and adorable. Maria includes everything you need for your stay and it is cleaned daily like a hotel. The bathrooms in Greece are different than what most are used to in the US and other parts of Europe and the cave house's facilities were comparable to most of the nicer hotels in Santorini. Thank you Maria for a wonderfully unique and special stay!!
Location location location .. If you want a front seat to one one of the most incredible sunsets in the world , this is the spot . From the time you arrive Maria makes you feel welcome , a nice cold drink and some homemade fruit salad hit the spot while she gave us recommendations on places to see and things to do. The Helios cave house is spotless and well maintained. It's a popoular spot and often I would open the door to find people taking a photo. Be prepared to walk allot of steps , parking is a pain and between 6-8pm if your caught outside it may take you a little longer to get back due to the masses lining the streets to witness the sunset. But , would I do it again ? Absolutely without question... Highly recommend.
My daughter and I stayed at Helios house, absolutely the perfect place to start our dream vacation! Even prior to arriving, Maria was the most helpful and kind hostess, assisting with booking excursions, transportation, providing general information, etc. Once in Santorini, she greeted us warmly and was ever so gracious and thoughtful throughout our stay. I cannot say enough about her, the best of the best. Helios House is perfectly located in Oia, with spectacular views of the caldera, and magical to experience the glorious sunsets rooftop with a glass of wine. The house is impeccably maintained and appointed, and so tastefully and authentically decorated. It was very comfortable, warm and inviting in every way. While close to all the restaurants, shops and activities that Oia has to offer, Helios House is quiet and charming, the front porch is private and lovely to enjoy breakfast and a cup of coffee while again taking in the breathtaking view. There is no doubt I would go back in a heartbeat and would recommend this property to anyone, there is truly no reason to stay anywhere else!
Location: Oia is known for its beautiful cobblestone paths and staircases that wind through the town. The villa is easily accessible to all the town has to offer. From the villa, a 1 minute walk will take you to a variety of boutiques and restaurants, artisan shops and many exquisite opportunities for photographs. Also close by are many galleries and the famous Castle of Oia, known as 'Sunset Point' of Greece! Oia is renowned for its sunsets. People gather on the walkways each evening for a glimpse of the breathtaking view as the sun drops into the sea. Within in 5 minutes you can walk to the bus and taxi terminal and information center or you can drive to three beaches near Oia. If you enjoy a hearty walk you can take the stairs down to Ammoudi Bay for a meal or a swim.
Free public parking at the parking lot of the Post office, 2 minutes walking distance from the house.
Please note that hot tub is not available from November to March.
