About Keith and Paula Henson

After growing up in the Spartanburg/Greenville area of SC, we married and moved to Knoxville, TN in the 70s. Keith began his career as an electrical engineer with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and I as an elementary school teacher in the Knox County School System. We raised our three children (who are all University of Tennessee graduates) in Knoxville and are now enjoying our new role as grandparents!

Keith and Paula Henson purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Keith and Paula Henson chose Gatlinburg

We have lived in the shadows of the beautiful Smoky Mountains in Knoxville for many years but only recently decided to make Gatlinburg our “home away from home” and purchased this lovely chalet near the summit of Ski Mountain. We discovered that Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have so much to offer our family. If it was peace and quiet surrounded by the beauty and wildlife of the park, hiking the many beautiful trails in the park, the excitement of shopping and sightseeing in the unique little town of Gatlinburg, or perhaps the thrill of the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park we were looking for we found it here. Gatlinburg has much to offer everyone in our family!

What makes this chalet unique

We quickly decided that the Chalet Village community on Ski Mountain was the place for us with its unique Bavarian flair and quaint chalets scattered across the mountainside! Of even greater importance was the close proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our front door is located less than twenty steps from the park boundary and is within walking distance to one of the many beautiful trails open to visitors of the park. We immediately fell in love with the beautiful views from both the upper and lower covered porches of the chalet especially when the Ober Gatlinburg tram passed by with screams of excitement as passengers topped the highest tower! In the other direction through the park forest we can view the three distinct towering peaks of Mt. LeConte! We truly have a panoramic view! We enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is literally in our backyard and often delight in seeing mother bear and cubs passing through on their daily rounds to and from the park. There was never a doubt in our minds that this was the perfect getaway location! We also take pride in knowing that our guests receive the ultimate in hospitality! We personally prepare for our guests' arrival and add all of the personal touches to make it a special experience and one that will provide lasting memories!

This is hands down the nicest, cleanest, most well taken care of property.

  • 5 of 5

The owners have thought of everything. The chalet was immaculate, up to date, and so cozy. By far, the nicest place I have ever stayed in. Very impressed. Would recommend to anyone. And I will!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent out 1st anniversary here and Paula made it extra special. The chateau is great! Private with everything you could need. We enjoyed the hot tub and the pool table. Paula did lots of extra to make us feel welcome and ensure a great experience. I would definitely come back again but I would make sure to have a 4 wheel drive for the steep driveway. 5 star experience!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your wonderful comments and desire to return! You two were wonderful guests! We love all of our Florida guests and would be honored to have you come back any time but no need for 4WD unless we have snow! I drive a front wheel drive Camry year round with no problems whatsoever to take care of preparing for our awesome guests! Thanks again!

Couples Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We had a great get-a-way and really enjoyed the view. The chalet is beautiful and encountered a black bear as soon as we came up the driveway. The driveway is very steep so be prepared if you are hauling a small trailer as we were with our motorcycle. We absolutely loved taking our motorcycle all throughout the mountains, Gatlinburgh, and Pigeon Forge.

The cabin was beautifully decorated and very welcoming. It was very cozy and perfect for 2.

Beautiful Chalet

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for four nights and could not have been happier with our stay! Paula and Keith have thought of everything and made sure we had everything we needed. The location is perfect - minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and a short drive to the National Park. We did a lot of hiking and the hot tub was the perfect way to end our day. We were lucky enough to see bears every day while at the chalet, including a mama bear and her cubs! The chalet backs up right up to the National Park so we felt like we had a private getaway, yet we were close enough to town for anything we needed. We hope to be back soon!

Beautiful chalet in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location in the mountains. The cabin had a great view and had a great private location. It is a beautiful mountain drive to get up to the cabin, which was clean and very tastefully decorated. Paula even left us some delicious zucchini bread and wine. Would definitely recommend this cabin.

It was a wonderful experience and the perfect honeymoon getaway. Both of us travel extensively and have seen a lot of similar properties but never one so well managed. Thanks to Paula and Keith for a fantastic time in the Smoky Mountains.
