Gaylord Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2-3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 8-12

The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, where we have installed a dock for deep water swimming and canoeing. Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

We allow well-behaved dogs for a small fee, and also charge a $60 cleaning fee.

This log home, "Junior" cabin, has 3 bedrooms (plus fold-out queen) sleeps 10-12, and it has a fireplace!

Or consider our other vacation rental at the Wild Winds: ""Honeymoon Cabin," has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-9 people. (see homeaway #298533).

The log homes are right on Wequas Lake, and our beautiful private lake is just a short walk into the woods.

Both homes come equipped with satellite TV, washer, dryer, full kitchen and 1 bath. The price is the same for either log home: the basic rate is $620/wk or $120/night, and prime dates are $750/wk or $145/night.

Disappponting

  • 1 of 5

The location and area are beautiful but the cabin is run down and filthy. Mouse droppings on kitchen counter, dirty rugs in kitchen and bathroom, dried food on fridge shelves from prior guests, broken faucets in bathroom shower and sink. The living room carpet smells like urine as does one of the chairs and the couch is broke down and filthy. Our bed in master bedroom sunk in the middle, the mattress pad was disgusting, hardly any hangers in closet and no ironing board for iron. There was laundry left in both washer and dryer from prior stay. Not sure what's in the fireplace but we heard rustling in there numerous times. Poor internet. What I thought would be a great getaway in a cozy little cabin turned out to be a big disappointment. We left 2 days early. I wish I would have spent my money elsewhere.

Owner's Response: It truly saddens me that two families had their vacations ruined by a mouse invasion. I wish I had known sooner to call in the extermination crew, but neither family mentioned it to me, and I found out when the reviews came out (the only bad reviews I have received, but understandable). The problem has been fixed-- a review came in today lauding the clean cabin and the perfect vacation! It is odd that two faucets broke the same week, but things break. Both faucets have been replaced. The king bed is brand-new and it seems other folks like it. As for the wifi, please do not come to the Wild Winds with high expectations for the wifi! I offer what is available as a courtesy; because we are out in the woods, the wifi comes and goes. I will make this explicit on the website.

disappointed

  • 1 of 5

so I see other reviews and I just wonder how it got so many good ratings. our cabin was very dirty. top to bottom. most of the storage shelves were dirty and also had mouse droppings, so we had to wash them before storing our food and using dishes etc.the dirt had been there a while and if that wasn't bad enough the floors were wet when we arrived and fans were running. we were told the carpet was just shampooed.however it was full of stains and I took a paper towel and dabbed the rug and it came back with dirt on it. so much for a clean carpet. one of the bedrooms was musty smelling the whole week, and the porch/bedroom was cold all the time. it didn't have any heat ducts to it. there was only one bathroom for ten people. the wall next to the tub was blackened from the floor half way up. also felt damp. so obviously the tub was leaking. the one bedroom lacked a dresser and closet space. we had excess to a fire pit, a row boat, a canoe, and a paddle boat. however we had to share it all with another cabin rental group of six. there were ten of us counting the kids. the lake was shallow and that could explain the reason for such small fish. average range was 2-6 inches. no kidding. a disappointment for us adult fishermen. on a positive note the surroundings were beautiful. I and the rest of my family were really disappointed in the living quarters. this was our fist and last time to stay at this location. we all like rustic but this one was really bad.

Owner's Response: Ouch! Our first bad review. It seems housekeeping did not come through for this family; this is unusual and disheartening, and we vow to do better. As for other important points raised: Though it sleeps many, Junior cabin has but one bathroom, as advertised. Future renters, be sure this will be suitable before booking. Wequas Lake is indeed shallow. Our private lake ("The Ponds") is quite a bit deeper, and we supply a canoe there, as well. I am careful never to guarantee good fishing (though this year was better than usual, with summer renters catching legal-sized bass, bluegill, perch and pike.) I am sorry this family did not catch any big fish.

perfect up-north vacation

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely perfect. Everything about Wild Winds exceeded our expectations, providing a place to settle in and really embrace the peace and serenity that the northwoods provide. When I asked my partner what he thought would be important to include in this review, he said 'everything, all of it... that property...the ponds! kind people! lake grass!!!'. If you enjoy nature, this is the place for you. The cabin is nestled in the forest alongside therapeutically tranquil Lake Wequas. There are lovely views of the lake from the back deck, where we spent a good deal of time enjoying our surroundings and watching our dogs endlessly entertained by scouting the shore and chasing chipmunks through the woods. The cabin is spacious with ample resources, including extra blankets, stocked kitchen, books, cable, a groovy puzzle and laundry facilities. There is even an adorable tea set, if you are so inclined. I think I left the property two times the entire week. Seriously, I was in heaven. I can't forget to mention the trails through woods that lead to the ponds... a magical place all of it's own. Jay says fishing in the local area was great! I fried up some local catch and it was delicious. Rokko is a kind host and we felt at home immediately. The cabin was clean and included the basics... tp, paper towel, soap, dishsoap etc. I especially appreciated there were separate reciprocals for recycling and compost. The shared value of revering the beauty of the land was tangible with the folks we encountered at Wild Winds. We were pleased with our visit and hope to return soon. This is a special place.

Relaxing location with rustic cabins

  • 5 of 5

This is our first time staying at this location and it could have not been better. We really enjoyed the stay. The cabin is clean and was nice to be able to cook our own meals. We enjoyed using the canoes my son and I rowed on end of the big lake to the other as well as the other smaller lake on the property. The cabin is rustic and fun to see and be in. Really nice to sit on back deck and just watch the lake and nature.

Beautiful location, and a great value

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the property, and cabin were what I'd expected. Semi secluded, quiet, with great views of the lake, and plenty of hiking trails on the property to explore.

The day had been nice and sunny, but turned to cloud cover in the early afternoon, ruining my chance to watch the sunset over the lake while enjoying a glass of wine.

By luck, the clouds started to thin towards late evening, and when I'd seen the sunset, it was breathtaking! The few clouds creating red shadows in the sky as the horizon was turning red-orange behind the trees at the far end of the lake was everything I could of hoped to see.

That view alone were well worth the price for the rental! Not including the cabin itself... Yes, it's a rustic cabin, not a 5* destination resort, but I knew that while making my reservation. The location is definitely 5*, and the service from Rokko was so great, 5* would be an insult to him!

He greeted us at the cabin, gave us a quick tour of the home, and property, and he'd treated us like old friends with a genuine warm welcome.

After that, he left us alone to enjoy out getaway, but is close by, and told us to contact him if we needed anything. Of course you'll hear that anywhere, but with him, I actually felt it was a sincere offer!

I will definitely return to the cabin when I'm in need of another getaway!
