The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, where we have installed a dock for deep water swimming and canoeing. Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.
We allow well-behaved dogs for a small fee, and also charge a $60 cleaning fee.
This log home, "Junior" cabin, has 3 bedrooms (plus fold-out queen) sleeps 10-12, and it has a fireplace!
Or consider our other vacation rental at the Wild Winds: ""Honeymoon Cabin," has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-9 people. (see homeaway #298533).
The log homes are right on Wequas Lake, and our beautiful private lake is just a short walk into the woods.
Both homes come equipped with satellite TV, washer, dryer, full kitchen and 1 bath. The price is the same for either log home: the basic rate is $620/wk or $120/night, and prime dates are $750/wk or $145/night.
This is our first time staying at this location and it could have not been better. We really enjoyed the stay. The cabin is clean and was nice to be able to cook our own meals. We enjoyed using the canoes my son and I rowed on end of the big lake to the other as well as the other smaller lake on the property. The cabin is rustic and fun to see and be in. Really nice to sit on back deck and just watch the lake and nature.
Everything about the property, and cabin were what I'd expected. Semi secluded, quiet, with great views of the lake, and plenty of hiking trails on the property to explore.
The day had been nice and sunny, but turned to cloud cover in the early afternoon, ruining my chance to watch the sunset over the lake while enjoying a glass of wine.
By luck, the clouds started to thin towards late evening, and when I'd seen the sunset, it was breathtaking! The few clouds creating red shadows in the sky as the horizon was turning red-orange behind the trees at the far end of the lake was everything I could of hoped to see.
That view alone were well worth the price for the rental! Not including the cabin itself... Yes, it's a rustic cabin, not a 5* destination resort, but I knew that while making my reservation. The location is definitely 5*, and the service from Rokko was so great, 5* would be an insult to him!
He greeted us at the cabin, gave us a quick tour of the home, and property, and he'd treated us like old friends with a genuine warm welcome.
After that, he left us alone to enjoy out getaway, but is close by, and told us to contact him if we needed anything. Of course you'll hear that anywhere, but with him, I actually felt it was a sincere offer!
I will definitely return to the cabin when I'm in need of another getaway!
We were a group of seven writers from the University of Michigan, and our time at Wild Winds was amazing. I wish I could post a picture of the sunset that first night. The stars, the very distant coyotes singing to the night sky, the echo of our own playful howls over the lake were some of the details that made this place unique and unforgettable. But some of the other writers have their own opinions too.
"The cabin was clean and well-maintained. Good for small groups. Having the canoes for own use made the trip extra-special." -Bryce
"This cabin comes with many wonderful amenities, including a fire pit, a fireplace, and unlimited firewood, two gorgeous lakes, several canoes, a rowboat, and definitely no ghosts." -Kristen
"Adorable dogs not included. Bring your own." -Robert
"and so okay let's us say you are a s oul that says yes i will be at one with the wild wind and you are at a late night. stop. wait. a hunger game is on and your late night pajama people watch a girl cut the tree to make the bees come. she is a tree cutting bee bringer. what do you do. who says where the bees might fall if not in the wildewind reserve but then you see yes there is a roof on the head and a chimney burn from back to front the way they made it. so no bees. and the rokko musics a black-white finger treadmill in the night when a bees don't come. come to willed wined: you won't die from bees."-Austin
"It was a nice place. With a nice bed. And a nice fire. And a nice rest of the place. A nice shower. I slept a few hours. It's a nice nice nice nice nice nice nice nice place."-Yook
[I'm too cool to write anything, but this trip was life changing. Loved everything.] -Kayla
The lodging situation was great. It's a large cabin, on private property, There are a few other cabins nearby. I wouldn't call it secluded - I would reserve that term for a remote cabin with no neighbors nearby - but you definitely felt like you were up north. It is on a very quiet, peaceful, nostalgic setting. The cabin had all of the amenities - washer, dryer, fridge, hot water, etc.
It should be noted that this really is a log cabin, and not a brand new 5 star hotel. It's a little dusty, the carpet isn't brand new,. However, it was clean and well kept. The bed I slept in was very comfortable. It was well heated.
The host was very polite, responsive, kept to himself, but was available.
There is lots of public land nearby. You are about 15 minutes southwest of Gaylord, which makes shopping or dinner convenient if you need to go to town.
I would definitely recommend it to others, and I would definitely go back.
We were looking for a quiet getaway for the weekend, add to that the first snowfall of the season and we found it! Perfect place to relax and forget about the city. Cottage was clean and comfortable with a fireplace that was lit all weekend. Beautiful property that was easy to navigate and walk thru. Canoed on the quiet pond and the larger lake. Host was was very accommodating and helpful, explaining everything we may have needed and also the surrounding area. Looking at our calendar as we will definitely be going back.
