The Property is owned by a lovely family. The view is fantastic. If you are looking for a campground experience, this is your place. A few things to be aware of: the second bathroom is only accessible via an exterior entrance and is a shared facility; shared with 2 other adjacent cottages. This also houses a shared washer and dryer. The interior bathroom features a window that has a see thru window dressing. The water has a high sulfur content. The bedrooms offer antique queen sized beds, full sized beds in today's standard. They are setting on the floor and allow for a firm sleep. The cottage is surrounded, closely, by 2 other cottages. This would make an ideal set up for a large family camping experience. The walk down to the beach is precarious. Individuals with mobility issues will find this extremely difficult to manage. The beach is lovely, filled with people from all over to mingle with. This is a pet friendly environment. We met lots of furry friends during our weekend stay.
Our family of four wanted a place to relax and enjoy many hours on the beach. This property delivered. Our kids are 6 and 8 and absolutely adore the beach. They got to play in the waves, dig in the sand, collect rocks, get buried in the sand, etc. etc. The stairs down to the beach aren't overly treacherous. But if you have a hard time getting around on regular terrain, then these stairs could seem daunting. My family had no trouble with them. Be aware that stairs down to the beach are commonplace along the shores of Lake Michigan.
The property has a trampoline in the yard, hammocks, an outdoor dining area, BBQ grill, free laundry. When you come here, the focus should be to enjoy the outdoors. The house is nice, but don't expect to feel like you are in a fully updated, luxury home. It worked fine for us and has creature comforts like cable TV and WiFi. No dishwasher. We brought paper plates and were able to keep dish washing to a minimum, so no problem. The water is a bit sulphory, so if that bothers you, feel free to bring some bottled drinking water.
The owners live adjacent to the property and my kids played with their kids and had a great time. They played on the trampoline and went hunting for crawdads (and caught some) in the very small onsite pond. They also have a super nice black lab named Izzy that we played with a bit. That was a plus for us.
In order to get 5 stars, the owners can patch up a couple things:
1) Update the towels in the bathroom. Ours were old and some had dried paint and rust stains on them. To make this problem go away, the owners should just stop at the store and buy a couple sets of towels and be done with it. Easy solution.
2) There should be a welcome note in the house that describes certain amenities and rules, for example: The WiFi password, what the check-out responsibilities are, etc.. But easy solution. Just write something up and put it on the dining room table.
Overall, we had a great weekend and you should too. Just make sure you understand the wide range of setups along Lake Michigan. This place is in the middle. It's not luxury, but it's not a dump. It was just right for us.
We enjoyed our time at the cottage! The bathrooms we a little old and it's been a while since I've been around the smell of well water (smelled like eggs😷). Aside from those 2 items we really enjoyed our time and in Michigan the view was just outstanding and Izzie the dog was very friendly she greeted us each day!! Thanks for letting us rent your cottage!!!
My family of 3 stayed July 20th-24th, 2016. The home provides all you need...just take your own food and towels. The walk to the beach is down a trail that takes about 2 minutes. Once you are on the beach the privacy is outstanding. You can walk as far as you can see and may only see a few (or no) people. The owner was very nice and available in case we needed anything. We really enjoyed our stay!
My husband, me and our girls, 2 furry and 2 two legged :) all had a wonderful time! Cottage was clean and centrally located to beaches, and equal distance to Benton Harbor and a South Haven. Can't wait to go back. Owners were very attentive to our needs and questions.
Upon arriving, we found the rental to be covered in grime and dust. After investigating the rental and what we were facing, we drove several miles to a store to purchase cleaning supplies, bath towels, sheets/pillow cases, blankets, plastic silverware, plastic cups, toilet paper, paper towels, and beach chairs. We did not expect the need to budget for any of this kind of spending. We came back to the rental and began cleaning. The bathroom was the most disgusting. The toilet leaked so badly the back wall was covered in mold and the wall was rotting. We had to leave paper towels on the floor to keep soaking it up for safety reasons. We had to scrub the filthy toilet, shower, and dishes in the kitchen before use. In addition, it had a window curtain that was thin and it left the nighttime users in complete view of anyone outside. We had to cover it with a beach towel. The living area was just as gross. It had grime and dust covering the kitchen table, chairs, end tables, hearth, and living room seating. I put sheets over the sofa and love seat because we wouldn't sit on the grime. The kitchen chairs were carved into, even showing foul language. So inappropriate. The air filter vent for the unit was covered in a layer of dust/dirt. We began cleaning it and found the air filter underneath contained even more dirt. We took off the cover and found a thick layer of dirt covering the air filter. It spewed dust/dirt. I finished cleaning the air filter cover and then placed the filthy air filter by the back door for the owner to notice. While we were there the door handle fell off the bedroom door. There was not even a bed frame for the bed. When I'm charged a cleaning fee with my initial contract, I expect the rental to be clean upon my arrival. I've been camping, I love the outdoor life, and I've rented many cabins, but never have I encountered one that was so poorly kept up .
