Our family stayed in July (two teenage daughters). We specifically selected this apartment because it listed three bedrooms. This is not the case. There is one bedroom. There are two other living/seating rooms. A cot and an air mattress was provided. We decided to put both in one of the living rooms so that we could still use one. As noted in another review, the kitchen is fairly small, but it was very adequate for how little we used it. One of the other reasons we selected the apartment was for the washer/dryer. This is a combo unit and was the most frustrating appliance I have ever used in my lifetime. Besides the fact that it took over three hours to dry any clothing, there were numerous times where the locking mechanism prevented us from taking clothes out resulting in 15+ minute battles with getting it reset. We finally surrendered and found a laundromat a block away where we washed clothing. The location itself is great. There are many eateries along the street, booksellers and shops. It is a very quaint area and had a great flavor of France. It's only a short walk to the metro station and, from there, easy access to the museums and sights. Overall, this might be fine for a couple to rent, but I would not recommend it to a larger group unless you were willing to have a "sleepover" flashback.
Our family loved staying at Augustin's flat on the Rue des Martyrs. Traveling with two teenagers, we needed to be able to spread out, and this very spacious apartment allowed us to do that. The neighbouhood is superb, and one could have an excellent stay without ever going beyond easy walking distance for restaurants, markets, cafes, bistros (try Le Pantrouche), bars, entertainment, culture, vistas (the tower of Sacre Coeur is nearby, and the view of the basilica when you step out of the apartment onto Rue des Martyrs is lovely), history...
You are staying in a quintessential Paris home, and Augustin's library, posters and other artifacts add to the charm and fascination of the lodging. Be aware that though there are two bathrooms, only one has a shower/bath, so if you are more than a couple you will need a bit of cooperation. We had no trouble. The kitchen was modest, but we didn't come to Paris to cook. Having a washer/dryer was a nice perk.
We were greeted on arrival, and we were oriented to the apartment (in English). Augustin was accessible, though nothing much was needed.
All told, this was a comfortable, safe, charming place to stay, and we would definitely return given the opportunity.
Property was based on a great street with some great shops and restaurants. Comfy bed and all the basics were provided. Apartment had a nice feel to it and some interesting quirks. Slightly rustic and unfortunately the TV and wifi were done during ur stay. However, great place and all went smoothly with arrangements and payments. Really enjoyed our holiday.
We had a wonderful stay in Paris at this apartment. Augustin was immediately available to answer any questions and very flexible with our arrival and departure plans. The neighborhood is just fantastic and staying at this spacious apartment made the stay exceptional. Just to note that the two large living rooms are certainly spacious enough to serve also as bedrooms and living area but the sofa beds are not full beds but rather a cot and an air mattress. Worked okay for our three adult children. thanks again Augustin!
Apartment was simply breathtaking. I will definitely stay there again and will recommend my friends to stay there as well.
We loved this apartment! If you are looking for something very French and traditional than this is the perfect place to stay. There was someone waiting to welcome us at the apartment and any time we had a concern the owner was quick to respond. This apartment exuded character and authenticity. We were worried that that the photos looked too good to be true but we were not disappointed.
We were hoping to stay somewhere more interesting than a typical run of the mill hotel room and we were hoping to escape the tourist crowds - this apartment certainly achieved this. I stayed with my partner, 2 year old daughter and my Australian mother and at no time did we feel like we were "on top of each other". This apartment is extremely spacious and although we only stayed 2 nights we could have easily stayed on for an extended stay. We were so impressed with the the character and features of this residence, for us it truly was beautiful. The high ceilings, the original floors and décor, the floor to ceiling shuttered windows and the modern art work were delightful. The area was also a perfect location for us. Not only was it easily accessible from the train station and a short distance from the centre of Paris but there was also cafes, bars, restaurants, bakeries, butchers, food markets and fish mongers all on the very same street. I really do wish I could have stayed longer just to soak up the neighbourhood and to try out the local amenities! There was also a small play park a 5 minute walk away which is essential if travelling with an extremely active child!
I would definitely recommend this apartment (I already have!) and really hope to revisit here in the future. Thank you.
The rue des Martyrs is a very charming street which gather the best wine and food shops.
