warm and cozy cabin retreat

  • 4 of 5

This place was wonderful. Warm and cozy and close to ski and snow fun. Great kitchen and baths and plenty of sleeping spaces. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and cozy with great comforters and pillows. They supply wood for a great fireplace fire, though you may want to bring your own starter wood or kindling.

We had one difficulty and that was just getting in and out of the house. The house and garage are at the bottom of a pretty steep driveway and the snow had melted and turned into a sheet of ice. My son fell and smacked his head pretty hard and while I was trying to break up ice just to make a safe passage for the family, I fell and hurt my hip (I am accustomed to snow and ice too, I've lived in Michigan and Boston most of my life). It was enough of a bang that both my son and I had to skip a day of snowboarding. The owners only have driveway snow removal hired and that doesn't even reach the bottom of the garage where the doors and key pad are located. The walkways are filled with snow, slippery and dangerous with a recommendation for renters to clear the snow, which clearly has not happened making for sheets of hard packed snow and ice. The owner was responsive and had someone come and put salt out the evening we arrived (and fell) but it only helped in a few areas and it was still very difficult to safely get in and out without falling for the remainder of the time we were there.

The cabin was worth the money and I'd certainly be willing to stay again, if the owners get better snow removal management and no longer were depending on their renters to spend their time away clearing snow. I'd pay more for that piece of mind and ability to move more freely around the outside of the cabin.

Wonderful Snowy Weekend

  • 5 of 5

What a delight this cozy cabin is. We awoke to a blanket of fresh snow each morning; and, kept the place warm with a roaring fire (plenty of wood is provided). The cabin is clean and well-maintained. The kitchen is a cook's delight! Historic Truckee is only a few minutes away; a plethora of shops and restaurants. The perfect get-away. The dogs loved it too! We'll be back.

Great getaway

  • 4 of 5

This cabin exceeded our expectations. It was cozy and comfortable but the little upgrades added a touch of elegance. The location was perfect for access to activities, but off the main roads. Our dog loved the trails right outside the cabin. The cabin was very pet-friendly. Our kids loved it too. We would definitely stay here again!

Little gem in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

I was a little reluctant to give a positive review for this little house on the mountain. The reason is I really don't want others to know about this little gem. We want to keep this as out little secret place. We're kinda greedy that way.

The owners did quite a bit of work on the cabin with little things that made our stay nearly perfect. The bathrooms had very nice upgraded fixtures and even though tiny, made us feel like a touch of class.

My big surprise though was the kitchen. I'm a good (but aspiring) cook. The large Viking stove and high-end pots & pans are a chef's delight. Wowzers.

Of course we have dogs which made finding a place that accepted pets problematic. I believe from the pictures on the wall the owners have dogs as well so they left little helpful touches to make ours feel at home. There was plenty of room for the dogs to run and everyone in the neighborhood seemed to like the dogs and understand that they like to run and play. I'm so grateful for that.

We’re pretty active people. This place offers a perfect location for trail hiking, cross-country skiing and outdoors play.

We had a minor hiccup with the heater. Things happen in the mountains all the time. It's how everything is handled that makes the difference. The owner's response was immediate - problem solved quickly.

I can't say much on the con side. Our visit was very pleasant, the owners were very nice and quickly responded with any of our questions, and we absolutely loved the location.

We want a return visit for sure.
