About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 with convertible couch)

Terrific weeks in September are still available! Warm days and cool nights, with endless blue water at your doorstep....come and enjoy life on beautiful Lake Ontario.

As evidenced by the now 59! unanimous (5 star) reviews, this is not your typical cottage.

Located on 200 feet of lakefront with breathtaking views of both the sunrise and sunset from your private deck, this lovely one bedroom house is perfect for a romantic getaway for two, or for a small family seeking a lakeside vacation.

45 minutes from Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls and right off the New York State Parkway, the location couldn't be more convenient. With cable TV, WiFi, public water, air conditioning and ample heat plus countless amenities, you'll be on vacation the moment you arrive.

Just as lovely in the spring and fall as it is in the summer, this location is the perfect spot for parents visiting students in Brockport, Rochester, Niagara or Buffalo. Lake Ontario turns a vibrant dark blue in the spring and fall and a walk among the changing foliage in Lakeside Park is simply spectacular. On chillier nights, our fire pit provides a cozy place for you to comfortably linger well past sunset. A large stack of fire wood and plenty of kindling are available for your use. Long summer evenings will amaze you with skies loaded with stars and sparkling fireflies, the likes of which can only be seen in the country.

The unit is all on one floor, and includes a queen-size bed, a brand new couch that converts into a second full sized bed, a full kitchen and living room, as well as a full bathroom with shower. The entire house has been completely remodeled, and is absolutely gorgeous inside.

The property borders on Lakeside Park, where you can enjoy miles of hiking along the breathtaking bluffs on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. A new 18 hole disc golf course is also available for your enjoyment.

In the area you will find several golf courses, fresh produce, a drive-in movie theater and wonderful restaurants. The house is nestled in a lakeside hamlet less than 15 minutes from the Erie Canal. Kayaking and canoeing opportunities along local creeks and waterways abound. You will find each nearby town loaded with unique shops, local landmarks and fascinating history. When you return back to the lake, you'll find the perfect location to relax and read that book you have been looking forward to. Most importantly, you'll have a chance to reconnect with nature and each other.

Lake Ontario is at record levels this year, (the highest in 125 years!) but this location is beautifully protected by the bluff. The lakeside deck was moved to the top of the bluff, and beautiful landscaping was added. You'll have the most gorgeous view of the sunrise and sunset from this location, surrounded by endless blue water. Come enjoy your own private paradise!

Here are some events to help you plan your trip:

New in 2016: An adult-sized 'sandbox'! For those of you looking to wiggle your toes in the sand, we've built an 8 X 16 foot sandbox, complete with reclining lounge chairs, off the first landing of the deck. Mother Nature gave us a rocky beach, but we developed a work-around for our sand loving friends.

About Maureen Farnand

My husband and I grew up in the Rochester area. We both came from large families and we love to travel and entertain. We enjoy this unique location on the lake so much, when the opportunity arose, we bought the house next door! We're happy to provide you with tips on good restaurants and fun things to do in the area, as well as directions on how to get wherever you want to go. We love this place and we want to make sure you do too!

Maureen Farnand purchased this house in 2010

Why Maureen Farnand chose Lake Ontario

This location is ideal in so many ways: It is 45 minutes from our primary home. It is quiet and private. It has gorgeous views of the lake. Lakeside Park is a hidden treasure and it is in our back yard. We can leave on a Friday after work and enjoy dinner on the deck an hour later. Few people know about this location. The property tends to stay in families for generations and has remained a hidden treasure we were lucky enough to learn about through my uncle who introduced our family to this beautiful spot in 1959.

What makes this house unique

There are few places I know of, where you can walk outside in your pajamas, cup of coffee and newspaper in hand and as you head to the deck you look out on the vastness of the lake and see six beautiful swans gliding by. You have to wonder... how could I beat this?

Wonderful weekend getaway with great owners

  • 5 of 5

Perfect spot to relax and enjoy the amazing beauty of the lake. Super clean, comfy bed, nice towels and linens, updated cottage (including a/c and great wifi), really well stocked. Even though it is tiny, it is more than enough space for a small family or couple (FYI the bath has a shower only for anyone that needs a tub). Includes several outdoor living spaces which are top notch with lots of extra details that enhance the stay. Owners were wonderful (they were staying next door in their vacation home), even helping us get a fire going in the fire pit (they provide everything!) and taking my 11 yr old son for a test drive in their golf cart! They were helpful and available but never intrusive. We enjoyed swimming (both in front and at Hamlin), roasting marshmallows, swinging on the lakeside swing set, and playing frisbee golf in the neighboring park. We enjoyed the decks and hammock and the beauty of the hidden neighborhood. The sound of the lake can be heard from the cabin. It's hard to describe how pretty the view is, how much the lake changes in a few hours, and how mesmerizing it all can be. We drove to the falls on our last day (about 45 minutes on country roads). Overall a great mom-son mini vacation made even better by kind, gracious and thoughtful owners.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful three night stay at this property. We were promptly greeted and given a tour of this charming home. It is by far one of the cleanest rental properties we have stayed in. It is clearly well cared for. The owners have provided everything you could ever need-from sunscreen to skillets, we found ourselves wanting for nothing! The lake views were amazing and we really enjoyed spending time "at home" as well as discovering the charm of the little towns that make up this beautiful part of New York. We hope to be back soon!

A quiet, lakefront property to relax and forget life's worries

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week long stay at this amazing property ... I've never felt such sadness leaving a vacation rental before. The house is everything you see in the pictures and more. Maureen and Darcy are the best owners I've ever dealt with, aside from an incredible house with everything one might expect, I've never had so many of the little things you DON'T expect covered. Sure, there's a smart tv, a/c or heat, ample lighting, a grill and plenty of furniture outside to lounge wherever, kitchenware and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on ... but the little things they took care of that I've never had to such a level really took me by surprise. The cabinets were stocked with plenty of seasonings, I didn't need to purchase anything when we went grocery shopping, there was coffee and coffee filters, and napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning products, bug spray, fire starters, an extra propane tank in case the one hooked up to the grill went empty ... the little things I've often had to spend extra money on while vacationing in the past, were there, in abundance.

They have a binder with the most comprehensive list of area attractions, though we choose to just relax 6 out of 7 days of our stay. We visited Niagara Falls one day, which is only about an hour and 15 minutes away and even if you don't have a passport, more than worth visiting if you've never been.

If you like fine dining (at a reasonable price, mind you), Zambistro came with Maureen and Darcy's recommendation when sifting through all of the information on local things to do and places to eat, and take it from a Philly area food snob and amateur chef that's a tough food critic, the food was excellent.

I'd highly recommend this property, and may return myself, though I'm sick of city living and looked up some of the for sale property in the area while I was up there, so one day I might even go back up that way and never come back. One can dream. And in the meantime, there's Maureen and Darcy's incredible vacation property.

This little cottage comes with an amazing view, all the necessary amenities, and two very gracious hosts. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Beautiful area with great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I just returned home from this beautiful cottage right on Lake Ontario. The owners have the place set up with everything you need and there is a sitting area both on the deck of the cottage and right on the bluff overlooking the lake. We were lazy all week reading books on the hammock and sitting around the fire at night. The lake is up 2 ft this year (2017) so the beach they had has mostly eroded away, but the owners still have access to the water from their residence side and welcomed us to go down that way. We spent many afternoons fishing off the rocks (several nice perch) and having our lab swim after his foam duck trainer.

If you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax for a week this is it. We will be back in the future!
