About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Loony Bin at Loon Lake in Franklin, NY is the perfect Adirondack retreat. Located directly on 100 feet of waterfront, the cottage offers a peaceful setting to enjoy all that the Adirondacks have to offer. Use of two kayaks, a rowboat and a canoe are included in the rental price. Enjoy boating on Loon Lake in addition to swimming in its clear waters. Watch the loons swim by frequently and listen to their intriguing calls. Fish until your heart is content catching lake trout, bass, perch and pike. Walk the areas' roads and paths gathering fresh berries. Admire the gorgeous star filled sky at night free of a city's light pollution.

When a trip into the 'city' is warranted, make an easy drive to Saranac Lake (20 minutes) or Lake Placid (30 minutes). These towns offer excellent dining both refined and casual and boast antique stores, novelty shops and specialty stores. No matter where you decide to go, you will be surrounded by the gorgeous Adirondack mountains.

Explore area museums such as the Wild Center in Tupper Lake or the Interpretive Center near Paul's Smith college. Both host awesome nature exhibits as well as trail systems.

The Loony Bin is a pet friendly cottage. Please email us for more information about what we have to offer.

No better way to relax

  • 4 of 5

A week spent at the Looney Bin was just what we needed. We could "chill" on deck; look at lake; kayak around when we felt like it. Had fires in fire pit at night. House clean; had many games, books, movies. Everything you could possibly want in kitchen if you decide to cook. Nice hiking trails nearby. Nice comfortable bed; reclining chairs. Very enjoyable visit

Peace and quiet with gorgeous lake view

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year at Loony Bin and we hope to go back for a third. Laurie and Phil keep the place clean and well stocked for your arrival. The kitchen has everything you need. Loon Lake is spectacular and is right outside the living room window. The hummingbirds entertain even on a rainy day. The new kayaks and paddles were an unexpected pleasure and easy to launch at the dock. It wasn't warm enough to swim this year but the water was as clear as ever. Buy the Lake Placid weekly paper on the way there to find special local events. We saw our first coyote on the Loon Lake Mountain trail... Just a beautiful wild dog. The most important thing is the peace and quiet along with the view, the view, the view!

Lovely place with a gorgeous view of the lake!

  • 5 of 5

The Loony Bin on Loon Lake was nothing short of perfect! As a person who loves to cook, I was very appreciative of the care taken by he hosts to have a well stocked kitchen. The furnishings were very homey and comfortable. Loons came by everyday and we could hear their calls at night. Canoeing on the lake was really nice, all the available watercraft was a treat. If I had only one suggestion it would be for a new mattress for the queen size bed. Lovely place, I highly recommend it.

We "Heart" the Loony Bin

  • 5 of 5

We just got home from our eighth annual visit to the Loony Bin on Loon Lake. The owners continue to add special touches that make each year so special. The quiet location and the view are the best we've ever found. There are Loons on this lake and we have always been lucky enough to see and hear them. The worst part of staying at the Loony Bin is having to leave!

Ideal Adirondack getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Exceptional vacation spot with so much to do right out the door; biking and running/walking trails, great dock for swimming, sun catching or reading a book, beautiful lake to explore and fish as well as a scenic brook trout stream just minutes from the cottage. Close to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid shopping, eating and sight seeing. Plattsburg is approx. 45 minutes north and offers Lake Champlain to explore. This year was the fourth summer we have spent vacationing at the Loony Bin and it is ALWAYS an absolute pleasure.
