About Michele Palatas

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I moved to Alaska in 1998 to work in Deadhorse-Prudhoe Bay, in the Arctic on the Beaufort Sea. I quickly became enchanted with this beautiful place we call Alaska! If you love the outdoors, this is the place!

Michele Palatas purchased this house in 2002

Why Michele Palatas chose Fairview

I purchased this duplex in 2002 along with two more, and made four of the units, fully furnished guesthouses. You may rent 1217 Guesthouse and the Cottage (912285) and the Cabin (3584196) if you require more room. Since then I have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world to our city nestled between Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains.

What makes this house unique

The convenience of being near to downtown and midtown, the Seward Highway heading south and the Glenn Highway heading north, make this a perfect location to get out and experience Anchorage and nearby attractions. Built in 1951 to accommodate personnel at the first airstrip, Merrill Field, the guesthouse has been completely renovated in the past couple years.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the 1217 Guesthouse was great! Michele, you were so attentive to our needs! We really felt at home and very much appreciated the pet-friendly atmosphere! Woody had fun with the neighbor bulldog, and we both enjoyed our walks around the neighborhood as well as the fun dog parks. He especially enjoyed University Lake Dog Park as he could enjoy some swimming there.

The house is very conveniently located to all Anchorage has to enjoy!

Cleanliness and quiet neighbors

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect for our 6 day trip. It was clean and had the necessities for what we were looking for. Michele is easy to work with and super friendly! It's in a great central location for looking to hike and have the city there too. Check out Seward, it's worth the drive. We would definitely stay here again should we be in Anchorage. Next time we're checking out SE AK! Thanks again Michele!

1217 Medra, Anchorage, AK

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to stay in Anchorage - part of a real neighborhood: families, neighbors, a school a couple of blocks away. The house was so clean, so thoughtfully set up. I had everything I needed, plus good suggestions for shopping and eating out. Should I come to Alaska again, I know where I want to stay.

Very nice home away from home

  • 4 of 5

This is exactly what we were looking for! Extremely clean, well appointed, great location close to downtown, shopping & restaurants. Having a little kitchen was a plus, the high-efficiency washer & dryer was a big plus. Being dog friendly came in handy as friends who visited us had a dog. You can tell great care was taken in furnishing this little house because it was filled with many extras that made our stay so much more comfortable. Thank you Michele!

Convenient location, Fantastic home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Just moved here and stayed at the 1217 Guesthouse while finding more permanent residence. It's winter so i can't speak much to the yard and garden, but the sidewalks were shoveled and were promptly re-attended to when it snowed. The interior was stylishly decorated and the furniture and bed were comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes you could need and the fridge and pantry are also stocked. My family and dogs had space to relax, and sit, and play, and cook dinner -- why have I always stayed in hotels?!?

Michele was a great hostess and took genuine care and interest to ensure that our stay at her property was a fantastic one. I will recommend friends and family look to her first, should they need a place to stay.

Two thumbs up!!!

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this rental property (1217 Guesthouse) and the landlord, Michele. I spent two months staying at this apartment and it became a temporary home. The unit is furnished well and stocked with all sorts of little things that make it feel like a home instead of a hotel (laundry detergent, nice towels & linens, random toiletries, scissors). The unit is laid out well for comfort and functionality. The couch and the queen size bed are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with dishes/cookware to cook most things. Any questions or concerns I had were quickly answered by Michele and she easily went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. This unit is located in a safe area of Anchorage and is two blocks from an elementary school. It is a convenient location to get almost anywhere in Anchorage within 10 minutes. I definitely recommend Michele and her properties. I will keep them in mind for return trips to Anchorage for myself and for friends.

Conveniently located in the Fairview District, just between downtown and midtown, the view to the east is the vast Chugach Mountain Range, and to the west, one mile to downtown Anchorage and Cook Inlet. Nearby are New Sagaya City Market, Europa Bakery and Kaladi Brothers Cafe. Convenient to everywhere! Minutes from downtown, the Alaska Railroad Depot, Joint base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska Native Heritage Center, University of Alaska, Providence and Alaska Regional Hospitals, Alaska Native Medical Center. Close to shopping, bus lines, restaurants, cultural attractions. Anchorage boasts the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, great restaurants, namely Glacier Brewhouse, Orso, Sacks, Simon and Seafort's, Crush, offering fresh fish caught in Alaska waters and vegetables grown in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. And my favorite breakfast at Snow City Cafe!
