This is a pristine property situated on very well maintained grounds. The views are breathtaking. Ocean surf is for all ages to play in. The condo/beach is as described and pictured. The condo is beautiful. There were no surprises. The beach is literally steps away. The pool was always clean and enjoyable to be in. Staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed having our lunch prepared everyday. The Dominican food (as requested) was delicious. The property manager was very diligent and prompt in attending to a couple of our needs. The beds were very comfortable. There seemed to be a limit on bedding and towels and unfortunately we were short a towel or two a couple of times. Playa Bonita is very quiet at night, situated away from the hustle and bustle of Las Terrenas. We would definitely return. If you are looking for a relaxing, uncomplicated vacation in beautiful surroundings, this is the place. The airport is 22 km's away on a beautiful road.
We lived in the DR for 12 years. Without a doubt the Samana Peninsula is the place to be. So many places to see: Cayo Levantado, Rincon, Las Galeras, El Valle, Fronton are all beautiful beaches. El Limon waterfall. Boca del Diablo. So if you need to take a day trip, the options will be plentiful.
We had a fantastic experience at this place. We stayed at two different places due to a wedding we had in Los Nomads. This was by far the best location of the two. The house has everything you need. There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 kids. We used the beach for snorkling, swimming and surfing. There are fantastic places and restaurant to walk to. We exercise every morning by the beach or the outside deck. We barely used the pool even though it is great but there was so much more to do. Toni was a great hostess and arrange some quads and a lady to cook for us. It was a marvelous trip. We are already planning a return trip!
First of all, Playa Bonita beach Residences is a nice place to stay, it's a new and beautiful complex located near the beach with nice surroundings, but if you are planning to go there, please select another of the units available. Don't take this unit.
The problem is that they offer more of what you really get and that's a big issue when you planned a New Year's vacation with your family of nine people expecting to get the comfort they advertise online. This is mostly an issue for me as we prepaid in full 100% of the rent fee, one month prior to arrival. Under these circumstances, you expect 100% delivery of what was promised / advertised.
In the first place, forget about a fully air-conditioned apartment because IT'S NOT; only fans in the living area and they ONLY HAVE a/c in three of the four bedrooms (That's if you could call bedroom a little, tiny area of NO MORE than 7' x 7', with no closet / storage area, or electrical plugs and only a very small window facing the entry corridor. The tiny bathroom inside has NO door and its window is just a hole opened to the bedroom, wonderful!
Also, forget also about free WIFI; it only ran for few days and then it shut down. The maintenance team only said that it was cut due to pending payment, great!
The washing machine and dryer were not working. (We were initially offered a separate washing/drying service. What they actually did was wash the clothes in the washer, which was apparently working, and then hang the clothes outside).
The water dispenser of the refrigerator was out of order so we had to buy bottled water during our stay.
I know these are common issues, easy to resolve if you have someone in charge for Maintenance, as they apparently have, but she didn't answer our calls on some of the specific issues (Wifi, water) so we were on our own most of the time.
Maybe you wonder if we made a claim to the manager...of course we did! and asked her for a full refund to try to go somewhere else (there's other good options in the area) or at least a discount to accept to stay, but we didn´t get a response until two days before leaving with an offering of an insulting discount of 3%, after you pay months in advance a full week's rent of several thousand dollars! Ouch!
Don't get me wrong, the unit is OK, well furnished and equipped but it's not for more than eight adults (not up to 11, as they advertise). Bottom line, not worth your hard earned dollars on a place that will not deliver what was offered.
There is so much to see and do in the Las Terenas area that it will be hard to find time to relax and enjoy the sheer comfort of this home!
The famous cascades of El Limon are a must do for families and is a fascinating tour on horseback (with guides) culminating with the opportunity to dive into the clear fresh waters from the waterfalls. We recommend you do this with Santi's restaurant in El Limon who will give you a fabulous Dominican lunch when you return. Go in the morning and plan for about 4-5 hours in total.
Mid January to Mid March we have the amazing humpback whales in the Samana bay and we recommend that you do this tour with Kim Beddal the Internationally acclaimed expert on these whales as her insight into their background and history is just fascinating. Most have been named by her team and it is a true must do if you are here at the right time!
Another highly recommended trip is to do the Route De Cafe which is best taken as a 4 by 4 tour with 2 people to a quad. this takes you inland to coffee and sugar plantations as well as a rubber factory. combined with lunch on a beach a delightful day out.
Los Haites National Park is another great excursion and of course a trip to Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island) is another must do.
Apart from all of this there are great diving, snorkelling, kite surfing and surfing beaches all within a few miles of Las Terrenas. You can take your PADI certification here.
Santo Domingo the capital city deserves time if you are city lovers and has a huge amount to see we recommend you stay in the Zona Colonial to experience the old city and walk within its old walls.
For the more adventurous just hire a car and explore the Samana peninsula, where there are still unspoilt beaches (some need a fisherman to take you there).
Playa Rincon is breathtaking and worth the drive.
