After many years work in mechanical engineering, I retired so I could go sailing. I also enjoy a good game of squash, which I play throughout the year. When I'm home I like to share great meals and funny stories with my friends. This home is ideal for entertaining throughout the year and a great spot to gather your family and friends from around the globe.
Bill purchased this house in 2004
I transferred to Nova Scotia in 1999, and was determined to make the most of 'Canada's Ocean Playground'. I started with kayaking and was later invited to go sailing. The instant I felt the sails fill with wind to carry us across St. Margarets Bay I was hooked, I had to stay. The hospitality and friendship of Nova Scotians is so compelling I decided to build a home on the ocean so that I could enjoy the bold views and peaceful surroundings as well as the people. I built my home in 2004 and have never looked back. Now I sail whenever possible, which is why I am able to share my home with you, especially in the Summer and Fall! Come and enjoy the comfort of my home and all that Nova Scotia has to offer.
Spending time in my home you will feel any stress of the day melting away. It is so peaceful and relaxing here. If you've never sat at the edge of the ocean and watched the waves roll in, you owe it to yourself to try it.
And at night, watch in wonder at the stars. They are so clear and bright out in the country.
We are 4 seniors in relatively good shape and we were looking for a quiet home on the ocean...we found it here at Bill's place in Blind Bay. We also wanted a home relatively close enough to attractions and places to hike and explore...that, too, was found here at Bill's place in Blind Bay. We went to the Bay of Fundy to experience the low tides and Lucketts Winery and to Halifax twice to visit the Citadel , tour the city with the Harbour Hopper, and eat at several wonderful restaurants on the Harbour Walk ...Bicycle Thief was a favorite. We loved coming back to Bill's home after our days of adventure. A suggestion for the home would be to have TV cable or satellite as we did miss the AM and evening news as well as being able to watch some shows together in the evenings after our days' adventures. The one disappointment was that we were unable to kayak due to the fog and wind conditions. We never cooked in the house as there are too many restaurants to try in the area toward Peggy's Cove, Indian Harbour, and Halifax. The house is equipped with most all you would need , has an awesome deck with 4 chairs ( a table would be nice), and the water views are beautiful. A special treat was meeting Bill who had fresh flowers, chocolates, and a bottle of wine waiting for our arrival. That made us feel pretty special.
We stayed here in early April for a geocaching getaway to explore Nova Scotia. Knowing the weather could be iffy this time of year, I wanted a peaceful place on the ocean with a fireplace for cozy evenings even if the wind was howling outside. This place fit the bill perfectly and Bill provided us with ample logs. Thankfully the fireplace was easy to use. It is a beautiful home in a peaceful location and even though neighbours aren't that far away (if needed) you'd never know it - perfect for what we were looking for. To get to this secluded location in a gated community, you need to travel approx 4 km down gravel roads. We especially enjoyed returning around dusk because there was lots of wildlife we encountered on these quiet country roads. We saw deer, porcupine and even a ruffed grouse showing off in hopes of attracting a mate. We also enjoyed evening walks along the quiet country road. Bill was great to deal with and even when we encountered a misunderstanding, he was quick to make it right. He is trusting, welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the special touch of flowers, chocolate and wine welcoming us upon arrival. Kudos to his cleaning staff (he told us who does his cleaning but that's our little secret :)) who make sure the place is spic and span. We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Our family of five stayed at this property in Aug. of 2015. We loved this place. Positives: Water views, spacious, clean...everything was perfect (except the slow internet speed..smile). Bill met us when we arrived (thanks for the wine, flowers and chocolates). The house had every thing you could think of...the kitchen was awesome! In addition to the view, we saw deer several mornings right outside the front door. We built fires by the bay, did cookouts on the deck and truly relaxed. We will be coming back. We would give 6 stars if we could.
My husband, son, dau-in-law, and I had the grand luck to be able to spend three glorious weeks in Bill's gorgeous home! I can no fault with anything. Bill is a most gracious host, and handsome to boot! The house was equipped with everything one would need and all top shelf. The re-cycling system was a bit of a challenge but we muddled through as best we could. If you are looking for a place to relax and reflect on the world, read that book you have been meaning to read or take day trips to see more of Nova Scotia, this is the perfect place. Watching seals, eagles, and deer are just a bonus. THANK YOU SO MUCH Bill for sharing your world with us! M. Gore , Memphis, TN
What a magical place
I first must say how gracious Bill is. We made the long journey from Michigan and arrived at 330 am!! Bill was waiting for us and greeted us warmly. There was a bouquet of flowers chocolate and wine waiting for us. How lovely !!
The house is warm and comfortable and inviting. Perfect really. The location is stunning and a short drive to many beautiful locations. If R and R is what is needed then the deck is an ideal spot. We saw bald Eagles flying around us butterflies and humming birds.
The kitchen was great everything we needed and the sleeping accommodations very nice and peaceful. Peggy's cove is stunning Halifax a fun and beautiful city and cape Breton is a must see. Nova Scotia and Bills house will be visited again. Thank you again Bill!!
We've rented homes on VRBO for 13 years but this one was simply outstanding and among the very best we've ever rented. The photos were great and certainly do the property justice, but the actual setting is even more beautiful. The home is very comfortable, spacious, well equipped, and in a perfect location to get away from everything and relax.
Bill was very gracious in welcoming us to his home and showing us around. Beyond that, he offered a variety of great suggestions on things to do in the area, ranging from kayaking and biking to local restaurants and nearby towns to visit. At Bill's suggestion, we visited Rhubarb -- a nearby restaurant -- and found the food to be incredible.
We spent the days exploring the area and the nights enjoying just sitting, talking and taking in the view from the deck. Each morning we woke to our own private view of the water (this home is nicely secluded) and, at night, enjoyed the stars from this piece of heaven. It was also great to take walks at dusk and observe the wildlife. We saw everything from a porcupine to a bald eagle in the area, which really excited our kids. In addition, several large and majestic deer wandered across the property each morning. If we ever return to Nova Scotia we'd stay at Bill's place in a heartbeat. We can't think of any place that could have been more perfect. Bill, thank you for opening your home to our family and all of your wonderful suggestions for things to do and see in the area. Your personal touch made our vacation even more enjoyable!
