About Bill

After many years work in mechanical engineering, I retired so I could go sailing. I also enjoy a good game of squash, which I play throughout the year. When I'm home I like to share great meals and funny stories with my friends. This home is ideal for entertaining throughout the year and a great spot to gather your family and friends from around the globe.

Bill purchased this house in 2004

Why Bill chose Nova Scotia

I transferred to Nova Scotia in 1999, and was determined to make the most of 'Canada's Ocean Playground'. I started with kayaking and was later invited to go sailing. The instant I felt the sails fill with wind to carry us across St. Margarets Bay I was hooked, I had to stay. The hospitality and friendship of Nova Scotians is so compelling I decided to build a home on the ocean so that I could enjoy the bold views and peaceful surroundings as well as the people. I built my home in 2004 and have never looked back. Now I sail whenever possible, which is why I am able to share my home with you, especially in the Summer and Fall! Come and enjoy the comfort of my home and all that Nova Scotia has to offer.

What makes this house unique

Spending time in my home you will feel any stress of the day melting away. It is so peaceful and relaxing here. If you've never sat at the edge of the ocean and watched the waves roll in, you owe it to yourself to try it.

And at night, watch in wonder at the stars. They are so clear and bright out in the country.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in early April for a geocaching getaway to explore Nova Scotia. Knowing the weather could be iffy this time of year, I wanted a peaceful place on the ocean with a fireplace for cozy evenings even if the wind was howling outside. This place fit the bill perfectly and Bill provided us with ample logs. Thankfully the fireplace was easy to use. It is a beautiful home in a peaceful location and even though neighbours aren't that far away (if needed) you'd never know it - perfect for what we were looking for. To get to this secluded location in a gated community, you need to travel approx 4 km down gravel roads. We especially enjoyed returning around dusk because there was lots of wildlife we encountered on these quiet country roads. We saw deer, porcupine and even a ruffed grouse showing off in hopes of attracting a mate. We also enjoyed evening walks along the quiet country road. Bill was great to deal with and even when we encountered a misunderstanding, he was quick to make it right. He is trusting, welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the special touch of flowers, chocolate and wine welcoming us upon arrival. Kudos to his cleaning staff (he told us who does his cleaning but that's our little secret :)) who make sure the place is spic and span. We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Our family of five stayed at this property in Aug. of 2015. We loved this place. Positives: Water views, spacious, clean...everything was perfect (except the slow internet Bill met us when we arrived (thanks for the wine, flowers and chocolates). The house had every thing you could think of...the kitchen was awesome! In addition to the view, we saw deer several mornings right outside the front door. We built fires by the bay, did cookouts on the deck and truly relaxed. We will be coming back. We would give 6 stars if we could.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your great feedback Randy. You hold the award for the longest drive anyone has made to stay at my home : ) I'm glad to hear you made good use of the kitchen, BBQ and fire pit on the bay. Nice of the deer to drop by for a visit in the mornings too. I appreciate your nod for six stars, it's very kind of you and I will gladly welcome you back to experience them all again in the future. Cheers, Bill

My husband, son, dau-in-law, and I had the grand luck to be able to spend three glorious weeks in Bill's gorgeous home! I can no fault with anything. Bill is a most gracious host, and handsome to boot! The house was equipped with everything one would need and all top shelf. The re-cycling system was a bit of a challenge but we muddled through as best we could. If you are looking for a place to relax and reflect on the world, read that book you have been meaning to read or take day trips to see more of Nova Scotia, this is the perfect place. Watching seals, eagles, and deer are just a bonus. THANK YOU SO MUCH Bill for sharing your world with us! M. Gore , Memphis, TN

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind and lovely review MB. Blushing a little here over your personal comment : ) It was a pleasure to meet you Ralph, Cindy and Sanford. That first night chatting on the deck over drinks and munchies was so much fun. You all had great stories to share. Nice to know that you and Ralph, enjoyed the wildlife and peace and quiet. I received a really nice email from Cindy and Sanford, regarding their extensive travels and how great it was to return "home" at the end of each excursion. Thanks so much for the personalized boat gift and music CD's. A rare and wonderful treat. You did a perfect job on the recycling streams so there was no need to worry. I took your lead on the sorting method and added some specific collection bags. Nova Scotians are trying hard to minimize landfill operations by composting and recycling. You did a fine job of helping in that regard. Thank you. All the Best to you all. Cheers, Bill

What a magical place

I first must say how gracious Bill is. We made the long journey from Michigan and arrived at 330 am!! Bill was waiting for us and greeted us warmly. There was a bouquet of flowers chocolate and wine waiting for us. How lovely !!

The house is warm and comfortable and inviting. Perfect really. The location is stunning and a short drive to many beautiful locations. If R and R is what is needed then the deck is an ideal spot. We saw bald Eagles flying around us butterflies and humming birds.

The kitchen was great everything we needed and the sleeping accommodations very nice and peaceful. Peggy's cove is stunning Halifax a fun and beautiful city and cape Breton is a must see. Nova Scotia and Bills house will be visited again. Thank you again Bill!!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind review Lisa. Considering you all drove from Michigan, with a trailer in tow, the least I could do was wait up for you and welcome you to my home : ) I did catch a few winks on the couch before you arrived though! I found out a few days after you left that the Bald Eagles have two fledglings in their nest. My neighbours and I are like proud parents! I'd love to welcome you back any time you'd like to explore more of Nova Scotia....and indulge in a little more R and R. Cheers, Bill

Just a great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

We've rented homes on VRBO for 13 years but this one was simply outstanding and among the very best we've ever rented. The photos were great and certainly do the property justice, but the actual setting is even more beautiful. The home is very comfortable, spacious, well equipped, and in a perfect location to get away from everything and relax.

Bill was very gracious in welcoming us to his home and showing us around. Beyond that, he offered a variety of great suggestions on things to do in the area, ranging from kayaking and biking to local restaurants and nearby towns to visit. At Bill's suggestion, we visited Rhubarb -- a nearby restaurant -- and found the food to be incredible.

We spent the days exploring the area and the nights enjoying just sitting, talking and taking in the view from the deck. Each morning we woke to our own private view of the water (this home is nicely secluded) and, at night, enjoyed the stars from this piece of heaven. It was also great to take walks at dusk and observe the wildlife. We saw everything from a porcupine to a bald eagle in the area, which really excited our kids. In addition, several large and majestic deer wandered across the property each morning. If we ever return to Nova Scotia we'd stay at Bill's place in a heartbeat. We can't think of any place that could have been more perfect. Bill, thank you for opening your home to our family and all of your wonderful suggestions for things to do and see in the area. Your personal touch made our vacation even more enjoyable!

Owner's Response: Thank you Amy, For capturing the essence of my home and its setting in such a lovely manner. I spend time in the off season sculpting and maintaining the forest to optimize the setting, views and privacy. It's nice when people notice. I love answering questions from my guests to help them enjoy Nova Scotia. And you had lots of great questions. I'm glad you were able to take in some of mybsuggestions to enjoy the scenery, wildlife and food of this area and of course the tranquility here. I'm honoured to hear you compare my home to some of the best you've experienced and happy to have been a part of your vacation planning and enjoyment. If you do come back to Nova Scotia, I'll be happy to offer you more suggestions and a heartbeat. Cheers, Bill

A Remarkable Place in Nova Scotia...

  • 5 of 5

Let me begin with the fact that nothing short of renting this property will do to experience the beauty and serenity of Nova Scotia. Nestled among the eastern shore of Blind Bay Cove, the property and house fit the expectation of how a vacation home should look and feel. Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, a large kitchen for those who enjoy cooking, and of course the "great room" with fireplace, which we spent many evenings in reliving the day's adventures and planning our excursions for the next. Our party numbered six, and for the first week increased to eight, yet the house accommodated all of us very comfortably. For two weeks during the end of June 2015 we called this place home!

As with some before us, we took advantage of the property location as home base to explore the local communities and the rest of Nova Scotia. We extended our adventures all the way up north, exploring the Cape Brenton shore line and the northern highlands. If your vacation brings you here to just rest and lose yourself, it will happen the minute you step out of your car. The property, resides inside the community of Blind Bay Cove. Privacy is an understatement, the only thing you'll hear is the soft sound of waves breaking on the shoreline of the cove, and the fresh ocean breeze.

For small necessities, you're just a hop away from the local little convenient stores. When shopping for groceries in support of your extended stay, the Bayers Lake shopping mall is only half an hour away. We went out to Bayers Lake and stocked up with groceries the first day we rolled in and returned a week or so later to replenish. Routine house keeping is easy, all the amenities that the house comes with (washer, dryer, dish washer) are all top notch and reliable, and as stated, if you like to explore your culinary abilities you'll not be disappointed. Sightseeing is a must to appreciate the beauty of Nova Scotia. You'll get your fair share of bald eagle, osprey, and seal sightings just from the house deck. A stroll down to the shore line just below the house will put you at the bay's water line and an opportunity to explore the woods and rocky shore. Our family had a fantastic time on our vacation here, much of which is due to the gracious, kind, and devoted approach of the property owner Bill, your host, (after all you're you're renting his house!), in making sure that all your needs are met.

Thank you, Bill, from the bottom of our hearts! Cheers...

Owner's Response: Hi Ron, If I could post a photograph of the happy, smiling faces of everyone in your group, it would be the perfect cherry on the cake to top off such a wonderful review. Everyone was so engaged in their vacation and ready to soak up all they could find around my home and the many areas you explored in Nova Scotia. You also remind me of the many reasons I love living in this part of the world. I'm happy being at one with nature and I sense you experienced why that might be in these peaceful surroundings and a spacious home nestled on the Atlantic shore. Which reminds me: I look forward to seeing some of those pictures you've been looking over : ) You mentioned a few of the places and regions you didn't get to explore in your two weeks here. Any time you'd like to come back and experience them, you'll find a warm and friendly welcome and the doors to my home wide open to you all. Happy travels. Cheers, Bill
