Historic Old Town Cottage Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Cedar Shores is a recently renovated, 2 storey, 4 bedroom house in the Chautauqua area of the Historic Old Town district of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Located in the #1 location in town. The house is located in a very quiet, quaint area of town with towering, old growth trees. The house is only a short 15 minute walk to the main street in Niagara-on-the-Lake (Queen Street). Spectacular sunsets which National Geographic rated as one of the 10 best in the world can be viewed from a Lakeside park located only 5 doors down from Cedar Shores.

Many nice quaint shops and restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls is about a 25 minute drive with lots more lively things to do.

With restored hardwood flooring throughout and cedar lining the walls of the living room and den, Cedar Shores is a sanctuary that is a model of casual elegance for the area. The house features 4 bedrooms - all with queen or king size beds. There are 2 bathrooms, each with walk-in showers. The master bedroom is situated on the main floor with the remaining bedrooms on other levels. The open concept, fully equipped kitchen has modern stainless steel appliances including a gas stove that is ideal for preparing large meals for all gatherings. The kitchen opens on to a large dining room with a beautiful raised ceiling and roof top windows that comfortably seats 8 people. The living room off the dining room is well equipped with a wood burning fire place, large HD television, Blu-ray DVD player, wireless internet and surround sound speaker system. Off the living room, separated by pocket doors, is a cozy den with a double futon couch and easy chair for relaxing in the corner of the house. There is a washer and dryer located in the basement of the house. The house has central air conditioning.

Off the kitchen is wood deck with a Weber gas barbecue. The backyard features a kidney shaped, heated, in ground salt water pool. There is parking for two vehicles and the house accommodates a maximum of 8 people. The peaceful cottage atmosphere of the area is a welcome sanctuary for people looking to get away for a few days or longer.

Why The Owner chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

We bought the house as a weekend and week long getaway for our family. As we were setting it up, we decided to outfit it in a way that guests can easily be accommodated and not feel like they are intruding in someone else's house. From the comments of our guests, they feel that the house is a great setup with the most comfortable beds they've ever experienced.

What makes this cottage unique

The location of the house has to be one of the most peaceful locations in town. It brings you back in time to when things were a lot simpler and less rushed.

Perfect family cottage

  • 5 of 5

Cedar Shores has great bedroom space for large families and I wish April was warm enough to have taken advantage of the backyard and pool. A great walking distance to downtown. All in all, a great place to stay.

thanks for a fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a weekend at Cedar Shores about a month ago, had a terrific stay. The house is spacious and well equipped and we managed to take full advantage of the pool (our kids all mid to late teens). Couldn't believe how close we were to the lake with the beautiful sunsets. Easily able to visit downtown NOTL and Niagara Falls.

Thanks again for having us, we'll for sure be back next year.

Great place and unbeatable location

  • 5 of 5

We were debating between this house and another that was located a little further from downtown and I'm glad we chose this one - you just can't beat the location, it's just a few meters from the lake shore where we enjoyed an amazing sunset. We were also able to take a charming walk less than 10 minutes to the restaurants/bars, which was extremely convenient when you're there to relax.

The house itself is nice, well equipped and spacious enough to accommodate a large extended family. The weekend we stayed was a little chilly and we took advantage of the fireplace, which does wonders to help you forget your worries.

I'd recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

Needs TLC and Repairs

  • 1 of 5

We agree with other guest reviews in that this is a great location for walking to town and sunsets on Lake Ontario. As a fellow VRBO owner, we felt it very important to do a review on our stay at this location. It doesn't appear that this owner has taken the time or effort to provide what is portrayed in the description on the website which indicates you will have a "5 star experience". Poor workmanship and numerous electrical cords drilled thru outside walls would definitely be a fire hazard. We're more than confident this would not pass any inspection. The pool liner was worn and wrinkles throughout, yard was dirty as was the front entrance and upper "balcony", hand rail was installed so that supports were at top of rail and therefore, holding onto rail was not a safety feature but a accident waiting to happen as I ended up breaking my finger. Closet doors in upper bedroom could "not" be closed due to poor mounting as they scrapped the floor which is very evident looking at the damage to the hardwood. We had to clean all the dishes, bbq, front porch and entire backyard before using. As a group of 8, we were unable to cook on the premises due to the condition of the pots/pans therefore, we had to restaurant it most of the week at least for dinner. These issues should be addressed prior to any further rentals. This type of poor management gives a bad name to VRBO which we are proud owners of belonging to. This was our worst experience with any rental, VRBO or otherwise.

"not up to the standards that you have claimed on the website"

  • 1 of 5

We enjoyed the location, the friendly neighbours, the beautiful sunsets 3-4 doors down, and the great walks into town. The main floor was roomy and great for 8 people, however, the rest of the experience with the house was not up to the standards that you have claimed on the website.

One of our couples is a VRBO owner and has experience with this type of rental, having a 4 bedroom 3300 sq. ft home with pool and spa. They would never rent out their property in this condition. The rest of the group have used VRBO many times. Your description of the area is correct, your property description is not close to the actual condition. Generally, it was in poor condition and lacked maintenance, with no attention to detail.

We don’t think you are offering “a mouse free, 5 star experience to your guests “as you suggest on website.

When we drove up it did not look like “Cedar Shores - Luxury in Old Town with Lake View and Pool.” The deck/patio and front of house required sweeping, full of debris, siding dirty, spider webs, etc. The BBQ had to be cleaned, and is too small for accommodation size. The balcony on 2nd floor was unusable due to dirt, leaves and cleanliness. The Pool liner was worn and wrinkled with no proper tools to vacuum or generally clean, thermal cover is rotten and falling apart.

The main floor had dirty floors and was dusty. The kitchen had mouse droppings behind the toaster on the kitchen counter, which we did not see until last day. The cookware was in poor condition, all pans but one were visibly charred and unusable. The rest of the dishes required washing. Did not have 8 steak knife’s, nor a set of 8 wine glasses. The varnish on dining table was sticky even when cleaned; 3 people had skinned elbows by end of visit. The main Sofa had food and sparkles all over. Multiple incorrect wiring cords used throughout house.

The door on upstairs bathroom was hard to close without lots of noise, and there was mold on ledge of shower. There was only 1 hand towel in each bathroom, eight people. The 2nd floor toilet was dripping all night long, keeping people awake on lower floors.

The door on main floor bedroom didn't close properly and there were blood stains on the mattress cover on the king bed (noticed when we stripped the bed to leave). The bedsheets in stair bedroom were torn in two places, and the room had no closet. The Upstairs bedroom - unable to close closets, as they scraped floors. “The new 5 star?” –we did not get value for our dollar.

A great stay in the middle of winter. Cozy fireplace, well stocked house, very clean and walking distance to downtown. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Many picturesque wineries are minutes away by car. There are 3 theatres in town hosting various plays for the Shaw Festival throughout the season. Great shopping in picturesque boutiques along Main street in Niagara-on-the-Lake (Queen St) as well as in the new Niagara Outlet mall which is about a 15 minute car ride away.
