Spacious living with great separation of two bedrooms & one pull-out sofa.

Guests find a peaceful ambiance with the energy of a mid-century vibe in this special, non-smoking two bedroom self-catering suite. New windows and the house exterior has been renovated as of May 2015. We're ready to welcome up to 5 guests.

(Please note: the stated number of guests including all adults and children must be accurate and you must accept our manual adjustment of the quote to cover guests numbering more than 5 to reserve the suite.)

Take two steps to enter into the oak floored entrance area. Original art provides interest, and the mid-century character of the living room offers a skylight, east and south facing windows overlooking neighbourhood gardens. Enjoy eclectic reading selections or games, or the unobtrusive flat screen TV: limited cable is provided.

The main level Full/Double Bedroom is an 'easy access' space on the same level as the bath. Down the hall, there are just five steps to the Queen Bedroom. There is ample storage in each room and the Queen Bedroom features radiant under tile floor heating.

This suite includes an office area with free WiFi for those traveling with smart devices or a laptop. Please note: WiFi communications are free -- there is no landline phone. Other amenities include a front loading washer and dryer, dishwasher and the usual kitchen appliances such as toaster, coffee maker, French Press, chopper, hand-held blender, etc.

Entertain up to 6 guests in the dining loft, overlooking your own outdoor space, a granite walled patio. The loft overlooks our neighbouring gardens--we love to show them off, so ask for a tour!

As your hosts, we provide all necessary linens and, as self-catering travellers ourselves, we know that a few staples in the kitchen is important. You'll find our own bouquet garni spice mixture, olive oil, sugar, salt & pepper, and some teas to get you started. We can recommend great local coffee roasters--and two supermarkets are within 10-15 minutes walk.

For overseas guests--we are happy to make power adapters available--please ask. Our information booklet includes directions for local shopping.

Partners and new granddads John & Rob provide quality accommodation, long and short term, through Garden Oaks Fine Accommodation in beautiful Victoria, BC. As world travelers who have lived overseas for many years, Victoria is now home once again. 'We've really enjoyed searching for mid-century pieces to play up the great vibe in this 2 bedroom house."

After a career in clinical care and health system management, Rob remains active in health care. John is diversifying his interests to encompass more design work. They both enjoy gardening, experimenting with cuisines of the world and getting lost on foot in interesting locales.

Why John and Rob chose Oaklands

This place feels like home. We've included eclectic reading, a few games, original art from local artist Bill Duckit, our own J. James O'Brien and Hong Kong-Canadian artist Ron Legault. There's an office area with free WiFi, a great granite-walled patio as your outside space and the location is central to everything Victoria offers in a quiet, residential area known as Oaklands.

You are assured of your privacy, with congenial hosts close at hand should you need ideas on things to do and places to see. The suite is entirely self-catering and you will find a vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies for your comfort--please use them to avoid damage from spills, etc. Weekly and monthly guests will need to augment our generous starter supply of laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc. with additional items.

What makes this house unique

The suite offers a good separation of the bedrooms, a dining loft and a comfortable configuration that makes the space seem even larger than it is at 1221 sq ft. Business travelers like the separate office area. If working on project reports, please replace paper and ink.

Enjoy oak hardwood floors (radiant tile heating in the Queen bedroom) and the feeling of laid back life amid Victoria's famous Gary Oaks.

Al fresco dining in the granite-walled patio under a huge Eucalpytus tree is a fine way to start your evening. Prepare goodies in the fully equipped kitchen, or ask us for tips on ordering in.

Please note: it is not ok to reserve for 5 and bring 9 people without prior agreement. Your stated number of guests including all adults and children must be accurate and you must accept our manual adjustment of the quote to cover all guests and reserve the suite.

We are not able to accept credit cards on-site, so adjustments should be made using the website, or in cash, as pre-arranged.

Please understand that we may have a very short time between reservations and cannot always accommodate a larger family group.

Perfect house, lovely owners!

We found the house to be just right for our Christmas stay in Canada, giving us plenty of room to live and host friends.

The neighbourhood was also quite beautiful and only a walk to central Victoria for the sights, restaurants, museum, shops and cinema. We even had snow on Christmas eve, picture perfect!

I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in or explore around Victoria.

Friendly attentive hosts, lovely community.

We booked Mid Century Oaks for the month of March for both business and pleasure. Before arriving we were impressed with the welcoming comprehensive information package sent by email from John and Rob. The house is located on top of a hill in a quiet neighbourhood just north of downtown Victoria. Very convenient and within walking distance of the Hillside Mall, bus stops and the Crystal Pool. The interior decor is both nostalgic and modern, a nice mix of teak furniture, large wall art and quirky items reminiscent of the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies. Skylights make everything bright. The dining level is up 8 steps from the kitchen, looking out midway up a large arbutus tree and onto the most stunning garden. Throughout the month the garden came alive with colour and hummingbirds. If the weather had been warmer we would have used the private patio just off the kitchen. In all, staying here was a great experience.

Great house in Victoria

The house is clean including all the floors. The kitchen has beautiful dishes and a variety of pots and pans. The beds are very comfortable. The linens and towels are high quality. The gardens are also very beautiful.

The BC transit is great. There are two grocery stores near by, nice parks, and the neighborhood is good.

The owner is very helpful with great ideas.

Lovely home in an ideal location!

We were there for my daughter's convocation and used this as the family home during our stay. It was ideal for our needs - plenty of privacy, comfortable beds, the kitchen well equipped. The gardens were beautiful - a lovely escape in the afternoons. The property was modern and very convenient to restaurants, university and downtown. The owners were very accommodating. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We are conveniently located for walkers with amenities of the city within 15-35 minutes on foot. 3 public transportation routes are within 5 minutes walk from your suite.

Those traveling by car will find easy access from all the major arteries in a very special neighborhood that is close to everything, but feels a world away. We offer off-street parking in the driveway--pull right in!

Just 5 minutes from the Royal Jubilee Hospital and a short 17 minutes to Victoria General Hospital, the Mid-Century Oaks Suite offers a quiet respite for family and friends visiting patients nearby. Note: travel time to VGH varies from 7-20 minutes in the morning to 20-40 minutes in the afternoon, settling down again in the evening.

The Fernwood Village and Quadra Street Village areas are a 10 minute walk downhill. Haultain Corners offers coffee and specialty grocery items a pleasant 7 minute stroll away.
