Poplar Lake Lodge is a very secluded 4000 FT. lodge with a large stocked privately owned lake in Upper Michigan. Fish include Northern, Muskie, Large Mouth, Crappie and plenty of pan fish. Two rowboats, canoe, paddle boat, 2 kayaks and trolling motor with battery included, (sorry but we do not allow gas motors or guest boats on the lake due to contamination) also wifi internet and Direct TV with led tv. We are centrally located in the Hiawatha National Forest in the middle of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan between Lake Michigan and Lake Superior in Delta County. With no permanent residents for miles and a private driveway 2.5 miles long and a locked gate 1/2 mile from lodge if peace and quiet and seclusion is what you are looking for Poplar Lake Sporting lodge is the place for you. Fifteen miles north of Little Bay De Noc and Rapid River, the closet town which is a 35 minute trip due to the windy roads.

About Charlie

I was born in Chicago and came up to the U.P. with my dad to this location during the summer. My dad died in 1974 and I continued to enjoy the U.P. In 1990 I moved up with my family and built a 4000 sq. ft. house. After 2 years my wife moved back to Chicago and I stayed. I then opened the property up for guests during the summer and have done so ever since.

Charlie purchased this lodge in 1986

Why Charlie chose Rapid River

The most secluded property in Upper Michigan and your own little private resort. No sharing boats, motors or anything else with other guests since there are none.

What makes this lodge unique

This is one of the largest privately stocked lakes( no license required) and the most secluded location in the U.P. of Michigan with most of the conveniences of home.

"Second year here...can hardly wait until 2014 stay"

What I like best about this bit of paradise is the getting away from life's hectic pace. Charlie & Dar welcome me back like family & are fantastic hosts.

I learned some new things last year. It is not far from Pictured Rocks and that makes for a great day trip. Want to try a tour of Grand Island in 2014.

After a day out, it is great to come back to peace and quiet...

Love hiking with the dogs and enjoying the beauty around. While it is hard to leave, I know I will always return to watch the sun rise over the water while enjoying a great cup of coffee!

A dream come true

  • 5 of 5

Words can't possible explain-what this place is all about.

It's all modern with everything you have in your own home.

It's very secluded {which is what we where after}

The lake is a great fishing lake.

The fish are big-some bigger than our net.

Some so big you will want to come back year after year-just to try & catch.

Heavier line--lures-poles & baits.

And who wouldn't like to catch a Muskie-- a fishermans hole in one.

The owner checked on us both by phone & in person to make sure we had everything we wanted or needed and for suggestions that may help others who come here.

Great owner- his main goal is your comfort.

And this place has every comfort of home.

My wife & 3 kids along with my 3 grandchildren-made memories that will last a life time.

Not to mention that my little dog was free to run leash free & chase chipmunks all day long.

I would highly recommend this place for people like me who like living in the middle of the woods-- with HOLIDAY INN like - Comforts

I don't think the photo of this place does it the justice it deserves--it's so much better.

But rain or shine you will not be bored-nor will you want to leave this place for any reason-til it's over.

Great place--loved every minute of it.

Glad we found this place--be sure you reserve it long in advance

We did not want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

A fisherman’s paradise. We did not catch any Muskie but plenty of Northern Pike, Large Mouth and Crappie. We had excellent fishing until near the end of our stay when we had severe thunderstorms. This seemed to shut down the fishing the last 2 days. Clean and plenty of room. We loved the game room and spent most of the last 2 days playing darts, pool and foosball with all the rain. The kids did most of their fishing off the end of the dock. The only con was we could not bring our own boat as Charlie, our host, is worried about contamination but he had plenty of boats for all 13 of us to be on the lake at the same time. (7 total and they are all included in the price.)

Fun on the lake with lots of space

  • 4 of 5

We had many issues while we were there, but Charlie fixed them to the best of his ability. The house does need some maintenance, but it was very clean. The kitchen is very well stocked, and if there is something that you don't see, it will be there the next time that you stay. The use of the boats was amazing, we spent the entire week on the lake. We packed everything in and didn't leave until checkout day, which I would recommend since the driveway is rough and long. If you are looking for peace and solitude with the use of boats for free, with no fishing license, this is the place for you.

The place was great!!!! It was secluded and quite just what we wanted. The fishing was great too!! The kids loved the beach area and the kayaks. We love the outdoors and this place was perfect for us. The only complaint I would have would be no washer and dryer. With kids in and out of the lake it would have been great to have those, otherwise place was fantastic with everything we needed. Thanks for the great vacation!!!

A Little slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Love, Love, Love this property! Very secluded and peaceful on it's own private lake. Had tons of fun fishing and exploring. We brought our own Kayaks, and loved the peaceful rides at dawn and dusk. As Charlie knows, driveway needs some holes filled so per previous comments, bring a car thats a bit higher off the ground. Plenty of fridge space to stock up on your groceries for the week. We've already booked for next year, cant wait to go back!

This is one of the most secluded spots in the upper peninsula of Michigan. We are surrounded on three sides for miles by Hiawatha National Forest. Are entire property is thick mature woods. Our private stocked lake (Northern, Muskie, Large Mouth, Crappie, Perch and other pan fish) is only available to our family, and guests. We also have a 70 foot dock great for fishing from. No out side boats allowed on the lake to avoid contamination but you are more then welcome to bring your boat for other lakes including little bay de noc and use our 7 different boats we have. You also can bring additional trolling motors and batteries. We have a 21/2 mile private drive. Plenty of wild life (deer, bear, birds and much more.) 2 swans that make our lake there home each year. We have the Grand Isle trail which crosses our road which is a non motorized trail which goes from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior. Pictured Rocks in Munising and Little Bay De Noc on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior are all must see attractions within less then 1 hour. We also have 4 casinos and 4 golf courses within a 1 hour drive. If you want seclusion and privacy where no one will bother you. This is the place.
