This is a real jewel in the heart of Berlin - a beautiful 95sqm two bedroom apartment in an old Berlin building in the 'belle etage' first floor with its amazing high ceilings. The apartment looks out onto sredski street which is next door to the famous kulturbrauerei. At the end of the street are the very popular and well known anna blume and sowohl als auch cafes.
The apartment itself is tastefully and eclectically decorated with original furnishings from different periods throughout. It has two bedrooms and a sitting/living room as well as a fully equipped kitchen. Its real wooden floors and large windows make it beautiful bright and warm space to live in.
With this all that the area has to offer it is unlikely that you will want to spend much time inside but the apartment has been especially equipped to make you comfortable if you so choose. It has a flat screen TV, DVD player, speaker for iPod or iPhone as well as lots of interesting books and magazines.
The location is a two minute walk from the famous kollwitz platz with its twice weekly food markets and its now famous street cafe culture. This in addition to the growing number of small specialist clothing, jewellery and craft shops makes this one of the most prized locations in the city to stay.
The apartment is a four minute walk from the u2 underground line which is the perfect transport link for visitors to the city. It will connect you to Alexander platz in the east, potsdamer platz in the reichstag and Brandenburg quarter, as well as to the world renowned zoo and aquarium in the west of the city. Direct on the line is also the kadewe a Europe-famous department store for those wanting the designer experience. From Alexander platz you can connect to almost every part of the city via the unrivaled public transport network of Berlin.
On arrival you will be provided with lots of information about the immediate vicinity as well as interesting things about the city in general. Depending on the day you may even be lucky enough to get some home made cake!!
This is a very special apartment in a very special area and you will have an unforgettable stay.
I am Irish and have been living in Berlin for five years. My hobbies are cookery and gardening. As a result we have lots of cookery books and plants in the apartment. I also like to travel, and when I visit a new country the food and plants are a major interest for me. I also like to garden and cook with my children and I like to be able to use the produce from our klein Garten here in Berlin in my cooking. We can recommend some great local restaurants.
Beautiful old building on a beautiful tree lined street in a lovely area Prenzlauerberg, one of the best areas to live in Berlin.
Very well located in relation to public transport, grocery shops and local markets
We had a lovely stay. Everything we could have needed was there, the apartment is light and airy, the street is quiet in the evening and morning, the neighborhood offers endless cafes and boutiques, parking was no problem, etc etc. Our 8 year old daughter pronounced it the best holiday apartment we have ever rented. I can think of no higher recommendation!
John is a real friend!
A remarkable person who did everything for us in order to make us feel comfortable and happy.
He was always there when ever we needed him.
John is also a great cooker and we were lucky enough to eat a variety of his delicacies, as we stayed in his apartment for a full month and he never stopped to surprise us.
When there was a heating problem in the building he ran to buy a heater for us.
The apartment is beautiful and the most homy you can get., we could feel it in every little detail.
Our three kids were very said to leave.
It's is also located in a perfect street in the amazing Prenzlauer Berg neibhborhood.
Thank you John for unforgettable experience.
The apt was even better than the description suggested. John is very personable and he took very good care of us: he explained the neighborhood amenities, had a walnut cake waiting for us that he baked himself and a bag of freshly ground coffee. He was very enthusiastic about Berlin and had some excellent books and guides ready, The apt is very beautiful and is elegantly furnished, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly require. The bathroom has a great shower and all the fixtures are new. Plenty of towels The neighborhood is gentrified chic, and so has abundant restaurant options to suit most budgets. The old brewery turned cultural center one block away has very good supermarket and cinema and a weekly food market. The train station is a 5 min walk, and so are two tram lines. There's a great English-language bookstore the same distance and excellent coffee roasters. There are at least two major avenues with restaurants and stores very close. A convenience store is just by the door, as well. All and all, great value and fun.
This apartment was the perfect place for our introduction to Berlin. It is clean, cozy and located in a great area. Tons of great restaurants and easily accessible to transportation. We arrived on New Years Eve, which was not ideal. However John met us on time, helped with our luggage, gave us tons of recommendations for eating, shopping, sightseeing, etc. He even baked us a cake! We were a family of 4. It is spacious, clean, well equipped, with beautiful hardwood floors, high ceilings, and big windows. We felt like we were Berliners here, my husband and I are already planning a return trip. 3 nights was not nearly enough in Berlin.
We adored this apartment! It was very comfortable and the aesthetic was modern, yet cozy. The listing was just as described on the website, as were the accuracy of the photos. We were truly content when spending time in the flat. All was clean and in good shape. When we needed to be in touch with John, he was quick to respond, and always helpful. Business cards and travel books provided a wealth of options for activities. We especially loved the many books of high quality fiction in the rooms.. The neighborhood was fantastic! Singles and young families were always about, restaurant selection and boutiques were plentiful. We were a husband and wife and two college-age daughters and Prenzlauer-berg offered something for all of us. It is also close to tram, U-bahn, and the Ring-bahn.
We enjoyed the Mauer Museum, the East Side Gallery, and the Jewish Museum. Visiting the Barn area, Mitte, Museum Insel, and Kreuzberz were excellent.
We would return to Berlin, this flat and neighborhood in a heartbeat!
We spent a week at John O'Connell's apartment with our two grandchildren, aged thirteen and sixteen. The apartment is extremely pleasant and comfortable, the neighbourhood delightful. Plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, and an excellent Saturday farmers' market in Kollwitz Platz, a few minutes walk away. Two metro stations nearby take care of most transportation requirements. John is an excellent and considerate host, ready with help and advice on request, down to recommending a neighbourhood Irish pub where my husband and grandson could watch an Arsenal game. We enjoyed his whiskey cake.
