About Arlene Clarke
As an island or Seaside girl as those of us from South Palmetto Point, Eleuthera are known, I attended and graduated from both elementary and high schools in Palmetto Point. Immediately after completing high school I went to work for the country's telecommunications company as the first female technician to the island of Eleuthera. I continued working in Eleuthera for 8 years and later moved away to further my education while working. Obtaining an Electronics Technology Diploma and a Bachelor's Degree in Business I was promoted through the ranks and went on to serve in supervisory or regional and senior management capacities on various other islands of the Bahamas for the next 22 years. After 30 years of service, I opted to retire and return to my hometown in 2012, a goal I had yearned hard after. Sir Charles place is therefore the fulfillment of a vision. I enjoy serving the needs of guests in a community way, just as my dad did.
Arlene Clarke purchased this Apartment in 2013
Why Arlene Clarke chose South Palmetto Point
I was born and raised in South Palmetto Point and my fondest memories of life are connected with this town and Island. For educational and economic opportunities, I moved away and lived and worked on other islands of the Bahamas, but always looked forward to the day I could return and contribute to building my hometown in an organic way. I did just that in 2012. This house, completed in 2013 is dedicated posthumously to my dad Charles Clarke, of whom I have personally knighted as 'Sir Charles', not because he achieved some notoriety by world's standards but simply because he accomplished the greatest thing in the world to me; he was a great dad and father. He had little, but he worked hard in many capacities to provide for his family. Through his example as a quiet unassuming man, he taught us the value of hard work, honesty, integrity and love for God and our fellowmen. Daddy served in the tourism industry up and down the island of Eleuthera for many decades as a taxi driver, clearly loving what he did; this was evidenced in the respect he afforded others. As a daddy's girl, I could always be found foot to foot behind him whether in the boat fishing, on the farm or going along for the ride as he taxied guests around. Unfortunately, the construction site was off limits to me. So it is no wonder, I found a way, in his physical absence to construct anyhow. This house is built on the route that daddy drove home to us every day and I have commissioned it 'Sir Charles Guest House' to honor his legacy. Charles Blair Clarke (1922-1986). So my 'Why' for this property is - I love daddy, I love what he taught me and I am committed to serving others hopefully as well as he did His legacy lives on! To Daddy!
What makes this Apartment unique
Eleuthera's balmy breezes can be felt no matter where you are. The rolling hills, dangerous, yet breathtaking cliffs, bright sunshine, beautiful blue and green warm waters, pristine beaches, friendly natives and slow pace all combine for the kind of therapy the doctor orders. The ability to grow what I eat in the rich soil, hear kids playing in the streets, shinny up a tree, play hopscotch in the street, catch a butterfly or a fish, go land crabbing, black or coco plumming , letting the sound of waves and the sea lull me to sleep at night or even watch the local dogs frolic in the street are all things remembered and many enjoyed still. Not to mention, Eleuthera's rich history, from the Arawaks to the Eleutheran Adventurers and the island's apropo naming - Yes, Eleuthera is truly Freedom!!.

My husband and I loved the Sunflower Suite. It was located on the central part of the island, which was perfect for us to explore both the north and south sides of the island. The beaches were very close to the house, including Ten Bay Beach, which was one of our favorites! The house was only 10 minutes to the Friday Fish Fry in Governor's Harbor.
We knew we chose an amazing house by reading the online reviews about Arlene and her wonderful hospitality! Although we had flight issues and were delayed a day, Arlene was extremely accommodating and met us at our newly arranged time with a big smile and a welcome to the island! It was such a great welcome! Arlene lives close to the rental house and she let us know that she was available any time with questions or concerns. She maintains her property very well, answers any questions extremely quickly and is a very caring person. The house had everything we needed. She even provided beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas for us to bring to the beach. We truly enjoyed our time at the Sunflower Suite! Thank you Arlene for a great time!
The pleasure was all mine Kristi. You and Jared were very easy to host and you left my apartment so immaculate. Much appreciated.
Arlene was a great host and the property was just as expected....clean, updated and very comfortable....thank you for a great experience!
Thank you Bob,
The pleasure was all mine to host the young men and so happy they enjoyed our suite.
Exceeds all expectations - wonderful island rental!
This charming rental is the perfect island getaway. Arlene is such a wonderful host, she greeted us on arrival and made sure everything was just right for our stay. This place is both clean, and comfortable - with ductless A/C units that work well, and WIFI (to post lots of pictures from your stay, of course!). The bed is super comfy also and you'll get a good night's sleep after a full day exploring or beaching. The apartment is also a wonderful choice for those that want the option to do some of their own island cooking (you can get fresh fish at Govenor's Harbour dock, or in nearby Tarpum Bay). So many rentals don't have the necessary pots/pans/cooking utensils - eating out in Eleuthera is wonderful, but also can be expensive, so it's so nice to have the option to have a few meals at home, or on the bbq! We will be back again, thanks so much for everything!
Joy and her family are great renters, great at communicating plans and easy-going. Not to mention they are very kind and considerate of the property and ensuring it is well taken care of. I have no qualms in recommending them as guests and look forward to hosting them again. It was a pleasure!
Centrally located, bright and cheerful
Arlene was lovely and quickly responded to my request having the cottage ready within 20 minutes of my getting in touch with her. The cottage was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities required for a short stay away from home. The location in Palmetto Point is super for daily exploring north or south and close to a few local dining establishment and the beaches.
It was a joy hosting you both. Sorry for the delay in responding; my account was locked. Look forward to seeing you again.
Clean and comfortable cottage in a convenient location for Central Eluethera.
The Sir Charles cottage met all our expectations. It was clean, comfortable, easy to find, and provided convenient access to beaches and activities. Arlene is a wonderful host. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to others. Thanks Arlene, it was such a pleasure to meet you.
