Brand new rental, custom renovations!
Louis Padron has made a life here on Culebra island with his wife, Raquel, whom he met here 9 years ago in a whirlwind romance at the local pizzeria. Since he was a young boy, Louis has always known he wanted to live on the island where his family comes from, and continues to live a life on the water as a boat captain and now enjoys renovating properties on the island.
They have two young daughters, and are always actively participating in community activities, including Animal rescue efforts. Let Louis and his family be your host in Culebra, and let the adventure begin!
Raquel McCarthy-Padron and Louis Padron purchased this bungalow in 2012
This property was in real bad shape before we bought it. We saw this property for the diamond that it is. We enjoy renovating old houses and thought this would be a great project. It has taken over a year just to get her where she is today. We love this property because it is on the water and offers a safe place to dock our boats and has a lot of space for our very young daughters to explore, to play and be safe on. We enjoy BBQ's, hosting parties and long weekends at our Boat house.
We fell in love with The boat House because of the fresh air that comes off the bay. We love spending time just sitting on the dock watching the beautiful sunsets and the boats go by. Our young daughters love catching fish and releasing them off of the docks. The large balcony is ideal for us to enjoy each others company and great for having wonderful BBQ's by ourselves or with other families and friends. I completely renovated our rental unit so that we would have a beautiful place to spend weekends with my family. ( a kind of home away from home ) when we are not using it we would love to share it with you !!!
My husband and I stayed in the boat house for three nights. This was the perfect spot for us, close to everything. It was very clean and comfortable. Raquel was an awesome host and even took the time to drive around showing us where things were.

We loved the boat house! Perfect location, had everything we needed. Owners were wonderful to work with. Best vacation ever!
We loved our stay at the boat house! The owners are extremely pleasant and easy to work with. We rented a jeep from Jerry's jeeps (highly recommend), but the house is also within walking distance of the airport. Indeed, the location is one the things we liked most about this. It is also within walking distance of town, a local grocery store, and even Flamenco beach (though this last one was about a 45 minute walk and we were glad to have the jeep the next day!) The house is small, but comes with (1) one bedroom. The bed is okay. We were glad to have a DVD player and several DVDs as a bonus. It has a GREAT air conditioner which is essentially on Culebra! There is also a pullout mattress (we didn't use) which could sleep a couple of kids, but space would be pretty tight (2) bathroom - newly refurbished and FANTASTIC shower (3) kitchen - well stocked, had everything we needed including fridge, microwave, stove, etc. It also has a porch with a hammock, where I spent a good amount of time! It's not luxury living, but exactly what we were looking for to get a local feel in Culebra without blowing your budget. I highly, highly recommend! This vacation to Culebra was one of the best experiences of my entire life. Enjoy this beautiful island!
The owners go above and beyond. They really make you feel like you're guests. They can arrange to pick you up from the ferry and they're full of recommendations and information. Louis is a boat captain and can arrange outings and Raquel fills in everything else. You absolutely can't go wrong with these two.
The only thing lacking in the boathouse is an interior sitting area but the outside deck makes up for that. It's very large, has a table and chairs and a hammock. We enjoyed our coffee outside every morning watching the chickens in the yard and sometimes right on the deck while planning our day.
The inside has been complete renovated. The bathroom looks like a 5 star hotel including the towels. You won't find that anywhere else in Puerto Rico in this price range. We didn't cook at all while we were there so I can't speak to the kitchen but it seemed well stocked. All I needed was a coffee pot and it was there and coffee filters were provided.
The boathouse was clean. The air-conditioning was a window unit in the bedroom that we left turned off all day and just turned on at night. It cooled the room in just a few minutes. I noticed one other person mentioned the airport across the road. I did notice it was there but never once heard a plane. Maybe because the air was running at night for background noise but I would assume it's such a small airport I can't imagine planes flying in too late or too early in the morning.
We were only able to stay for two days and rented a golf cart to get around. The only negative about that is if you get caught in the rain. There is a windshield to put up and we carried $1 ponchos with us. The only time we got caught in the rain was coming back from the beach so we really didn't care if we got wet but it might have been a different story if we were heading out to dinner.
When we made reservations here we had our choice of several different places on the island and we chose to stay here and we're very glad we did.
My husband and I stayed here and it was perfect for us! I loved the hammock on the porch and sitting and relaxing on the dock in the evening. We didn't rent a car or a golf cart for most of the time and their place was a 15 minute walk into town and a short walk to a great breakfast place (ask Raquel the name, I forgot it, but we ate there almost every day, and it was delicious and cheap). Raquel and Louis were wonderful hosts, giving us rides at times and even taking us on a boat ride to Culebrita for a reasonable rate for the day which was beautiful! The kitchen is well stocked and there is a grocery store nearby for anything you need. The airport is right near the home, but we didn't mind it at all. If you are a light, late sleeper then bring ear plugs and you will be fine. The beaches nearby are beautiful, quiet, and the snorkeling is excellent. What a wonderful island!
Our stay at the boat house was just perfect for this family of three. Raquel, the owner, stayed in touch prior to our arrival and picked us up from the airport to bring us to the property. The boat house is small and yet has everything you need. The bedroom has air conditioner, a TV, and several DVDs for the family. The bathroom is absolutely new and spacious. The kitchen has four gas burners, oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and all the utensils you might need to use for cooking during your stay. The porch has chairs and a hammock perfect for enjoying the morning and late night breeze (of December). The property is a minute or two walk to the airport and vehicle rental places. Town and ferry port is about a 15-minute walk. However, the property sits in one of the main roads from which you can catch public transportation fairly easily to town or any of the main beaches. We would strongly recommend renting a vehicle to get to all of Culebra's beautiful beaches. Both Raquel and Louis were incredibly welcoming and helpful during our stay. We highly recommend the boat house!
