Overview

About the property

Lodge, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 13)

'The Mountain House', named by our 5 year old grandson, is located a convenient 2 miles from the Big Canoe amenities and provides spacious accommodations with breath taking mountain and valley views. Our 5 bedroom 3 bathroom home has enough space for everyone to gather around the fireplace in the main room or to spread out by the fireplace in the terrace level, the screen porch, decks or other 3 floors.

As you enter the home on the main floor you will find a fully equipped kitchen with walnut cabinets, granite countertops and a double oven. The kitchen is spacious enough for multiple cooks to prepare a holiday meal; but if you prefer a more relaxed meal plan, use the gas grill located on the large deck. You enter the family sized screen porch through the dining area. The porch is the perfect place to rock in the willow rocking chairs while watching your dinner cook on the gas grill. The porch and deck provide long range mountain and valley views. The main level is also the central indoor gathering place to sit on the leather sofas while enjoying the floor to ceiling stone fireplace and rustic beamed ceiling. In the fall and winter months you can cheer for your favorite football team while you watch the game on the 50' flat screen TV. The main floor bedroom is off of the main gathering room and has a king size bed, a 32' flat screen TV and a connecting bath.

Upstairs, the spacious master has it's own bathroom, a king size bed and a 32' flat screen TV. The second floor is also home to the 'Bunk Room'. The 'Bunk Room' has a bunk bed with two full size beds and a single trundle bed. The 'Bunk Room' is suitable for children or adults.

One floor up from the second floor master bedroom and Bunk Room is the Crow's Nest. The Crow's Nest provides the ultimate mountain views and is a quiet getaway for reading, viewing the mountains and valley via the telescope or having a quiet workplace using the built in computer desk. The home is equipped with wireless internet.

The lower level provides another family room with a fireplace, 40' TV, DVD, and sound system. This floor is home to 2 large bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom has a king size bed and the other bedroom has 2 full beds and a connecting bathroom. Both bedrooms have 32' flat screen TVs. The downstairs family room has sliding doors leading to a covered porch and another large deck. Keep your eyes open because deer will cross through the side and back yard each day around 2 pm.

The Big Canoe resort area is set in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. The mountain setting boasts of 3 golf courses, tennis, swimming, canoeing, paddle boats, rock slide, hiking and fitness center. There is something to fill every day of your visit or you may choose to just relax on the screened porch or outside decks.

About Joanne Leonard

We purchased this home after owning a smaller log cabin in Big Canoe. We wanted a home that was large enough for our family of 3 children, their spouses and our 4 grandchildren to vacation all at one time. We searched Big Canoe for a year and a half looking for the right house. When we walked through the door of this house we knew we had found our home. Our mountain home sleeps each family comfortably with room to spread out and enjoy the laid back lifestyle that Big Canoe has to offer. We look forward to sharing our home with you and your family.

Joanne Leonard purchased this lodge in 2010

Why Joanne Leonard chose North Georgia Mountains

Big Canoe offers a resort style community that is close to our home in Cumming. Because of it's close proximiity to Atlanta, it is easy for our family to escape to the mountains in a community that has something to offer every age and every interest.

What makes this lodge unique

The tranquil setting in the woods allows us to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature, the wildlife and the fellowship of our family. My favorite part is getting away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We enjoy sitting in the willow rocking chairs on the screened porch and visiting with our children and grandchildren. The home has an open floor plan with a beautiful large kitchen, a spacious dining area, and large living spaces with a rustic mountain decor. The home has 4 floors so there is room for everyone!

Amazing Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

WOW! That sums it up. What a GREAT place to stay. We were celebrating our daughter's wedding at Big Canoe and chose this as our place to stay. I had visitors from Nebraska who vacation in Colorado frequently and they were very impressed with the cabin as well as the view. I can't count the number of times I heard "this is amazing". Joanne was excellent to work with and answered any and all questions in a timely manner. All the beds were very comfortable and the floor plan was excellent for the number of guests this cabin accommodates. The kitchen was stocked very well for our needs (pots, pans, plates, silverware, etc.). The bath towels were very good not some hotel quality towel and there were plenty of them for all of us. Again, this is a great place to stay and would most definitely return to this cabin in the future. Highly recommend this cabin. Thank you for letting us stay at your rental property.

Loved this house!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house, didn't want to leave... 8 of us visited Big Canoe to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. The house was perfect. It is bigger then it looks in the photos and was really nice. The hosts were great and helped us make sure things were squared away pre-arrival. Wonderful family vacation, would definitely stay here again...

THE BEST !!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Big Canoes before with our family, total 11 people including our children and grandkids. We always had a great time, but this house was the best. Very clean, lots of room for all, unbelievable view. The house was stocked with everything possible, I had even brought stuff I thought I'd need, but didn't. Just bring you're own food, personal care items, and you're set to go. Big Canoe has so much to do, kept the grandkids (and all of us) busy the entire time. The activities center with the lake, rock slide, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, paddle boards (which I did for the first time, and I'm not young anymore), amazing obstacle course on the lake for the kids, hiking to waterfalls....terrific!

And the owners, Joanne and Tom, are so nice and accommodating. They are available at a moments notice if you need anything or have any questions.

I all highly recommend this location and plan on visiting again, if we can get everyone together again at the same time :)))). Great memories.
