The Captain Jonathan Sherman house is a historic Eastham home built in 1768 and having a long and colorful history. There are several paintings of the home in the Eastham library one of which is an oil painted in the early 1800's.
Home is a comfortable 4 bedroom 2 bath (plus outdoor shower) house. There is a large kitchen and separate eat in area adjacent to the kitchen. Adjacent to kitchen is a full bath and next to this is a large den with a 46 inch HDTV. There is an additional TV in a second floor bedroom. There are no Televisions in the living room or dining rooms.
Great garden environment with large very private yard. To one side of the yard is the Nauset marsh and this affords Kayaking access to a tidal stream which accesses the Boat-meadow river and Cape Cod bay. I use the stream often. The Cape Cod Bay beach is several hundred yards walk from the house. The front entrance is reached from the large driveway via a brick walkway that terminates at a large screened porch which is a wonderful spot to enjoy coffee in the morning and wine and cheese in the evening. There is comfortable furniture on the front porch
We have restored this home these past 10 years and as with any older home this is a continuing labor. There is a brass plaque attached to the front door frame and this is an award from the Eastham historic commission for restoration activities by our family. The home is currently recommended for placement on the National Historic Register.
The Cupola on the 3rd floor is a wonderful reading room and a great getaway from the lower floors. There are 3 large windows and a view of the marsh. There is also a penciled drawing done by Captain Sherman referring to his painting of the building and dated in June of 1869.
On the first floor is a large bedroom with a queen bed. Second floor has two large bedrooms, one w/a king bed and the other w/a queen and an HD TV. Both have air conditioners. A third bedroom is small w/bunk beds.

I am a retired psychologist. My home is my favorite place and the family spend lots of time here. It is a family home and there are many family photos throughout. I am a Kayak-er and often use the back yard stream to travel to the ocean and do some river or ocean swimming. Our back yard is a very private area and is complete with perennial gardens and numerous apple and pear trees. There is a Weber charcoal grill and a large gas grill on the back patio.
Don Watson purchased this house in 2002

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped historic home, a short walk from Boat Meadow Beach in Eastham. Its architecture is the essence of old Cape Cod, but with modern appliances and Internet service. The combination of the downstairs bedroom and three other bedrooms upstairs, plus a separate living room and den, provided plenty of privacy and space for all of our family members. The location on Bridge Road allowed us to take back roads to beaches and shopping in Eastham and Orleans without having to travel on Route 6. Don and Lynda were gracious and helpful hosts, and we would gladly rent their home again.
My sons, spouses and extended family had a wonderful week in Cape Cod. Our accommodations were perfect - everything was as described. We had a great time cooking, playing cards, kayaking and walking to and from the beach. This home easily accommodated 8 adults - although it should be noted that the adults need to be able to move about without walkers, as the age of this home keeps it from being completely accessible. We figured this was the case, and made arrangements for the elderly members to stay at a local hotel. They joined us for game nights though and moving about was a bit tricky but manageable. We had everything at the house that we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Don was most helpful in giving us information about the area and making sure we had a great time. The internet access was amazing!
Our family vacationed at the Captain Jonathon Sherman House in August 2011. The landlords were so welcoming and accommodating! We have young children and the beautiful yard, close proximity to beaches, and spacious layout of the home were perfect! We all had a wonderful time. The house is very warm and welcoming and the kitchen was stocked with a wonderful assortment of cookware. We enjoyed making many delicious family meals and dining in the cozy dining room with rustic farm table. Our boys especially loved the bedroom with bunk beds complete with toys and books for them to enjoy. After staying at many homes on Cape Cod, this home was our favorite by far! Great proximity to attractions as well as privacy for quiet evenings relaxing after a day on the beach!
Back yard access to tidal stream for kayaking to Cape cod bay from back yard. One can also drive a kayak to Boatmeadow beach and launch from the beach.
