The Gammy Bird Inn sits on the cliffside just above the Seward Boat Harbor. Its panoramic views will keep guests amazed with watching wildlife, a busy harbor with its sailboats, fishing charters or cruise ships, or the more serene sights of Resurrection Bay and the surrounding mountains of the fjords.
The B&B is on the ground floor of this three story home, and has its own entrance. It is a short walk to the harbor or Seward's historic downtown. Hiking is just outside the front door, with easy access to the Two Lakes system.
Our home is a great location for your day of adventure in Seward whether sailing, hiking, whale watching or fishing. You can walk to the harbor to connect with most tours.
You will want to return again and again to the Gammy Bird Inn!

Randy and Deborah Altermatt have lived in Alaska since 1977. They both taught in rural Alaska and later in the Palmer-Wasilla area until they each retired. In 1994 they purchased Sailing, Inc., a sailboat school, charter company and brokerage in Seward and continue to live there managing Sailing, Inc.
Deborah Altermatt purchased this house in 1997
We loved staying here! The hosts were great and the room was nicely decorated with the most gorgeous view of the bay and the mountains behind! A short, couple block walk to bars and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
Would definitely recommend staying here. Beautiful views, very nice room, clean. Great customer service
My husband and I stayed here while visiting Seward over the 4th of July! Best spot for fireworks.. Owner is super friendly!
This was excellent. The view out the window of the harbor and bay at various times of day was just wonderful as the lighting changed. Deborah had left us nice breakfast food inside the apartment frig and the kitchen was supplied so we could have our own snacks. When I spoke with her during the planning of the trip she made several helpful recommendations that very much helped us make better decisions about how we spent our time there. Best of all, when a fisherman down by the river offered us a piece of fresh caught salmon, she and her husband willingly and kindly seasoned it and barbecued it for us and truly it was the best salmon either of us had ever had. We had a nice sized bright light suite with memorable view and kind hosts. What more could one ask for?
The suite is light and bright, especially important to these light-loving Californians. Deborah greeted us and answered all our questions, and Randy arrived at our door each morning with the delicious breakfast that Deborah prepared for us.The sleeping room, with a small kitchen set-up, and bathroom are completely adequate for a short or long stay. We felt chilly walking around Seward, and the B&B is well-heated. A sliding glass door provides a private entrance, but we felt comfortable using the front door and hallway that leads to the suite. In three days, we spent time at Exit Glacier, the Sea Life Center, and on a full-day boat tour at Kenai Fjords National Park. We recommend them all. Seward is worth a several-day visit, and we certainly recommend staying at the Gammy Bird Inn. You will appreciate the setting, the views, and Deborah and Randy's excellent and friendly attention.
The accommodations are very peaceful and private. While laying in bed, you can see sweeping views of Seward's boat harbor and Resurrection Bay surrounded by snow-capped mountains! The large bedroom and living area have a nautical theme with nice furnishings, comfortable queen bed, kitcheonette, and private shower. We stayed two nights and felt very relaxed. This B & B is the perfect getaway in Seward.
