About the property

The Gammy Bird Inn sits on the cliffside just above the Seward Boat Harbor. Its panoramic views will keep guests amazed with watching wildlife, a busy harbor with its sailboats, fishing charters or cruise ships, or the more serene sights of Resurrection Bay and the surrounding mountains of the fjords.

The B&B is on the ground floor of this three story home, and has its own entrance. It is a short walk to the harbor or Seward's historic downtown. Hiking is just outside the front door, with easy access to the Two Lakes system.

Our home is a great location for your day of adventure in Seward whether sailing, hiking, whale watching or fishing. You can walk to the harbor to connect with most tours.

You will want to return again and again to the Gammy Bird Inn!

Keywords: Private suite with own entrance, walking distance to harbor and town, ground floor, in a quiet cul-de-sac, near hiking trails

You may see a Bald Eagle fly by your window so closely that you will make eye contact! Watch the salmon swimming in the lagoon just below the cliff, and even spot black bear in the forest behind the house. See a unique sunset with the alpenglow on the mountains peaks in the east, and in the morning, awake to the sun coming over Mt. Alice as it lights up the head of Resurrection Bay.

Nice view, convenient location and lots of noise

  • 3 of 5

They wanted us to check in before 5-6, which we thought was restrictive since we are on vacation after all. The view is nice from a cliff, but many lodgings have a nice view here. It is not a real B&B. They give you cold bagles and muffins, yogurt, cheese and some fruits just once. There are a small fridge and a microwave, dishes and utensils so that is helpful. We walked to the harbour which is convenient. The house makes terrible noise probably due to heating and I couldn't sleep well. The curtains are very thin and let light in, which made it harder to sleep especially because it is light out until about 11 and it gets light about 5 am. If you don't mind these issues, the view may outweigh the negatives.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. We do ask that our guests arrive prior to 5pm, or make arrangements for a late arrival. This is our home and we do have other activities, so it can be problematic waiting for guests who come late. We like to personally welcome them and show them around the accommodations. Many guests like to check in early and then begin their Seward adventures. Thank you for checking in around 6:30. We do provide a continental breakfast that guests can eat on their own schedule. Many of our guests have early morning activities planned, and the bagels, rolls, yogurt, fruit, granola, etc gets them started for their adventures. Finally, our apologies for the noisy house. The boiler does creak when the heat is on. We hope for sunnier, warmer days during the summer when the heater doesn't have to be used! Thank you again for staying with us. We hope that your Alaskan trip is excellent.

Great room with a stunning view!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The hosts were great and the room was nicely decorated with the most gorgeous view of the bay and the mountains behind! A short, couple block walk to bars and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.

Superb Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was excellent. The view out the window of the harbor and bay at various times of day was just wonderful as the lighting changed. Deborah had left us nice breakfast food inside the apartment frig and the kitchen was supplied so we could have our own snacks. When I spoke with her during the planning of the trip she made several helpful recommendations that very much helped us make better decisions about how we spent our time there. Best of all, when a fisherman down by the river offered us a piece of fresh caught salmon, she and her husband willingly and kindly seasoned it and barbecued it for us and truly it was the best salmon either of us had ever had. We had a nice sized bright light suite with memorable view and kind hosts. What more could one ask for?
