Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Office, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Our sunny, secluded Oakland Hills home is perched high in the hills with a front deck providing wonderful views of Marin County, San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. We also have a private back patio with a 4-person cedar hot tub.

The front deck and entry of the house is reached by 18 stairs with two landings. The house has hardwood floors, a dining room (seats 6) and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows with views, a wood-burning fireplace, a modern kitchen with granite countertops.

The two upper floor bedrooms each have queen-sized beds, the child's room has a twin bed, and the downstairs bedroom has both a queen-sized bed and a twin bed. The main bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The master bedroom has an adjoining child's room, and these rooms have French doors opening to the back patio and hot tub. The master bedroom also has its own bathroom with stall shower. The house is approximately 1500 square feet.

There are many books and paintings throughout the house.

You can reach San Francisco in 20-30 minutes by car or public transportation, and the village of Montclair, with its cafes, shops and a Sunday farmers' market, is only a 2-minute drive or a 20-minute (hilly) walk from our house. Berkeley, with its great university and wonderful restaurants, is only a 10-minute drive.

This neighborhood of Oakland is called Montclair. It's in the hills, and although close to city life in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco, it's quite green and natural here, with many trees and birds and hiking trails.

About Janet den Breejen

We are Kees and Janet. We've lived in the beautiful Bay Area for over 30 years. We've been dividing our time between our Montclair home and our cabin in Yuba County, California, for the past eight years. We have two grown sons, one living in New York and one in San Francisco, and a 4 year old granddaughter and 1 year old grandson.

Kees is Dutch, born in Delft, who moved to Canada as a child and then to California. He is fluent in Dutch and leads a local Dutch meetup group. He is retired from the San Francisco Chronicle, having worked as a graphic artist, and is now a painter. Janet is a California native. She has recently retired and now works part-time as a freelance index editor for a legal publishing company. Both Kees and Janet love to travel.

Janet den Breejen purchased this house in 2007

Why Janet den Breejen chose Piedmont Pines

The benefits of this property include the view of San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate and Marin. A secluded setting but is centrally located, 5 minutes from Highway 13 to Berkeley (10 min), San Francisco (30 min) and Downtown Oakland (20 min), Marin County (40 min) Pacific Ocean at SF (1 hr). We are close to many miles of hiking in regional parks nearby. Swimming at nearby Lake Temescal. Near many charming shopping districts with excellent restaurants. Near the University of California at Berkeley (20 min).

What makes this house unique

We enjoy walking our chocolate lab, Charlie, on his daily route, a half hour loop through the neighborhood. We like the aroma of the bay and eucalyptus trees and the fog clearing from the valleys. We often encounter does with fawns, Steller jays and red-tailed hawks and sometimes wild turkeys.

Spectacular View, Lovely House

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our week at the DenBreejen House. The views are truly spectacular and the house is comfortable and extreamly well equipped. The patios and porches offer respit from the sun if needed. Kees artwork is varied, colorful and accomplished and the wide variety of books was greatly appreciated. The kitchen is completely equipped.

Chabot park is quite nearby for a good walk on the wild side. BART and shopping are not to far. This was a great base for us to share our love of the Bay Area with dear friends.

Another wonderful stay!

We stayed for a second time, a little more than one week recently and had a great time. Everything was perfect, we just love your home. We ate at many of the restaurants nearby, we just really love the Montclair Village area, so cute!

Gorgeous views, wonderful

  • 5 of 5

My family used this wonderful property as our base for the Christmas holidays, and we loved it! There are fantastic views of the bay and of two bridges! The property is very comfortable and homey with wonderful art to enjoy. It is very convenient to Montclair Village and the wonders of the East Bay. There is even a small little park on a creek just around the corner. The owner was very responsive to us whenever we texted with a question. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful home in the hills with fabulous view of downtown SF, the Bay and Oakland

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 months when our first grandbaby arrived, over August, September and October. Janet and Kees really opened their home up to us, we felt very welcome and also felt very much ‘at home’ here. The kitchen is set up wonderfully, it had everything needed for family dinners. We had many family dinners out on the great deck overlooking downtown SF as well as inside at the table. The neighborhood where the home is located is fantastic - restaurants, breakfast spots, shops and 2 grocery stores. From the house, it’s easy to get to San Francisco by car or BART. The homeowners graciously included a booklet with everything we needed to figure out where to go and what to do.

We were there during a heatwave as well, and it does get quite hot inside late in the afternoon, though on a normal day though it feels good and there is no need to use the heater. We are from Florida, so we are not used to such cool/cold mornings and we loved having the windows open with the fresh air blowing through. Overall our stay was great and we look forward to staying in this wonderful home again so we can take advantage of the terrace overlooking the Bay!

Great place to stay away from San Francisco!! Good view of the bay!!

  • 4 of 5

Overall the house was nice!! We went the week they had a heat wave. It got a little warm in the house in the afternoon. No air conditioning. Had to use the fans to help cool down at night. The basement had a musty smell to it. The hot tub was nice. We cooked breakfast every morning. The kitchen was set up nice.
